Hey fella. Did you ever have to read Beowulf in school? I remember our class doing so in secondary, it was a toned down version for sure. Then I went back and read the actual story and thought... "This is metal as hell".
I'd love for this series to continue. Other note is that it isn't just weapons based in legend and myth: many of the monsters, bosses and raid targets are also various figures and personages in religious stories from the world over. Back in the day, I used to get lost reading the wiki's about the stories these monsters were based on.
FFXI has always done a great job incorporating real world myth names into the game. I remember back in L75 days trying to get Vali's Bow (Váli, Norse Mythology, son of Odin destined to kill Höðr in retaliation for the murder of Baldr.) I like every other RNG wanted V bow so I could AH my Eurytos' Bow ( Eurytos, Greek mythology, was a giant archer, his bow would eventually wind up in the possession of Odysseus who would use it to kill any suitors interested in Penelope. Just a heads up the circumstances around Váli Conception .... not cool and a very dark story from a very archaic and cruel time in our past. You have been warned I know there's way more but just wanted to add this and say great video.
Hmm, I like your voice more than I care to admit! Hmm for the next installment... hmm... I'd always wondered about the mythos and history behind the mountain god, Dumakulem, which is tied to a ring in FFXI. It is tied to me as well, you see, because loving how often they used mythology I sought to make a character with a mythology they hadn't touched upon yet. At the time this was Dumakulem. His jobs were to be RDM, BLU, NIN, and SAM. A few months later they brought the ring into the game, prompting many a side eye from my friends and (ex)girlfriend at the time. I know that Dumakulem was the god of mountains and hunting in Filipino mythos, but I don't know much beyond that. Other than that... I'm not sure. Perhaps Notorious Monster names tied to mythology as well as gear?
@@SplitFinn I'm serious your ability to tell a story is insane, im not saying leave ff11 all together I almost feel like your one of the few holding the game together but if you found a different avenue I feel you would do insanely well even if it was a slow start
"He draws the Naegling and gives chase, eventually killing her with a 3k tp savage blade"
Ah yes, the famed tale of Beowulf.
So he’s in a library in scholar gear to explain mythology.
Perfectly Legit
Nice to see some more mythology from you, Rua. Really interesting stuff :)

@@SplitFinn unfortunately not at our school.
First time I heard of beowulf was the not so good Christopher Lambett movie...
Suggestion - if you're gonna make this into an ongoing series (which you totally should), you should probably put up a playlist of these videos.
Just sorted it out!

What do you think are the coolest ones you've learned?
Thanks for this,
this is the sort of content I've been wanting to see on FF11, but never found!
Great video, thanks so much for all of the FFXI content. Especially the lore videos.
You’re like the David Attenborough of FFXI
great series, thanks again Ruaumoko!
Brilliantly laid out my friend 👍🏽

Did you level all jobs to 99 with remas?
I love the mythology this was incredible you must break off of ff11 and start to create other content
It’s something I’m really seriously considering. Got more than a few topics in mind as well.
