I bought an alpaca wool poncho, it's soft, doesn't get as damp as my sheep's wool stuff, is really light weight, wears really tough, shakes off moisture, and it hasn't felted as much. I love it
I've ben wearing Merino shirts for over a decade. Just ordered a fleece hoodie and 8020 sun shirt from you guys. Looking forward to them. I also appreciate that you're bringing back textile manufacturing to the US- a bonus to the natural fiber.
Any tips for preventing holes in your merino??
The first product I ever got from you guys was a beenie. Still wear it. Bought a red rocks hoodie next, wore that thing daily until the elbow wore out. Sent you guys a message and you sent me 2 patches, which I took to my local seamstress and had them sewn on. You should see it, it looks amazing with the patches. She did an amazing job, but thank you guys for sending them!!! Although I have 2 hoodies, 2 crews, and every accessory, my family jokes and says it’s like my security blanket. Bought a hoodie for my wife and daughter, and now they get it!!! The material makes hoodie weather possible almost all year round.

Hey Matthew - thanks for trying ! And please keep trying ! This is what we've been working on for the past 6 months. We moved into a larger building, bough more machinery , and hired more people !! Now we are bringing in more material and ramping up.

Spent a lot of time in south America, specifically the high Andes. I love it. Being from south Florida, I don't have cold weather clothes. I buy it when I get there. T I found, as a fisherman, it was great when I got back on our handful of cold days. As for the alpaca and llama wool, it has the highest hair per cm. In the animal kingdom. Super warm for its weight. Really nothing else compares to that. Much softer then sheep or goat wool. The socks are the best.
People don't understand. This is an animal that spends its life 5000 feet above sea level. Many over 12,000 feet. This just doesn't happen any where else in nature. We don't see big game or domestic Animals this high year round. Some may come up for summer months but elk or bison etc I north America, even the domestic amd wild goats and sheep, don't go as high and or only do part of the year.
You definitely don’t have to use chemicals with Marino wool I think this video is intellectually dishonest.

Companies that care about environmental effect of their business are highly underrated. I suggest everyone to consider this company first.
Because it is 6x warmer than wool . It is wonderful especially @ 100% . Love it 🥰 I wish you made 100% alpaca blankets. Have had one for over 60 years and it is only now starting to show wear.
May I ask how there’s evidence to show that it’s six times warmer than Marino?
The wool is actually sent to China for washing. Not sure why he said it destroys their environment when in fact they dont do it in the USA.🤷🏻♀️.
After years sweating and chilling inside fleece and GoreTex I abandoned these materials completely and changed to wool, felt and waxed canvas, and I will not go back! In my experience wool from any camelid is better than sheepwool since per weight it is warmer, but you should make sure you have a decently knit piece, since the fiber is a little "weaker" (holes can develop in exposed areas) A combination of more than one (natural) fiber is perhaps the best solution, combining strength with warmth. Some manufacturers also use synthetic fibers in the mix, and I thing this is ok as long as you do not exaggerate. It should help with the strength of the cloth but that is it. "Odor inhibiting" properties and slow, flame-free combustion are inherent to these natural fibers and this plus should not be eliminated by the adding of synthetics. BUT there are also other considerations at play, for me right now the environmental aspect is getting more and more important, and many synthetic fibers are just not something that can be associated in good conscience with outdoor activities. I think we are at the beginning of some kind of transformation (the one proposed by Circular Economy) that will enhance interesting research in materials, design, and ways of manufacturing, selling, and using things. Thus "canvas" in the near future is not likely to be the "canvas" perception from the WWII period... And so the branding of products will also change!! The transit to better quality products, and to a longer use of them, is also on the wish list of many. Not only because they are better, but also because this is a far more rational way to use resources in a sustainable way! (repairing, refitting and recycling will be part of the design of chains of added value, and an intrinsic part of the life span assigned to the product ("cascading"), this is resilience and sustainability, this is the logic of Circular Economy!

I have the hoodie, LOVE my hoodie, what is a recommended base? Ive been wearing a smart wool 150's base layer. Seems to be working out great. Always looking for more efficient suggestions. Thanks! (alpaca tube has been ordered!)
Wool base layers are great with the Hoodie in adventure / outdoor / backcountry settings. Also, we are re-introducing our lightweight Tees this spring - so stand by ! Great Comment. Thanks so much !

Ha! You should compare alpaca to nonsuperwash wool. Superwash is like damaged hair. It feels terrible.
Interesting idea. You are correct about superwash wool - it does damage the merino wool fiber. We weren't aware that there are non-superwash merino products on the market. They would be hard to launder without shrinking...... Thanks for the comment! 🤙
@App Gear Co Merino yarn comes in either superwash or not superwash. I couldn't say if garment manufacturers use any nonsuperwash. I knit mine so I have camp socks and a sweater (actually andes wool not merino). They dry fast if they get a little damp. I could wash the socks camping easily and have them dry quickly, but the sweater takes longer to dry since it's worsted weight. I haven't knit with alpaca yet. I have some so soon I can compare. I have some wool linen blend that I'll make a T-shirt out of. I think that will dry fast enough to wash it camping. It's fingering weight yarn. Which ever yarn drys quickest, I plan to make a camp dish towel with the leftover yarn.
I love alpaca but your hoodie made me itch too much and I had to give it to my sister. She loves it and bought another one. I do own several other 100% alpaca hoodies and they are so soft and don't cause any itching. There must be a reason for that.
Hey K - Very sorry you didnt like ours, but really glad your sister liked it ! We are seriously glad you stayed with the natural fiber though - the important thing is to find one that suits you and to stay with that natural fibers as much as you can. Also, make sure to read your labels - there are merino and alpaca companies these that highlight the natural fiber when often it is 50% or less of the natural fiber and 50% or more of synthetics ! Thanks again for commenting - it is very important to us.
What about llama wool??? I don't have alpacas available, as cute as they are. I have llamas available.
Don’t you want it to retain more moisture so that you don’t have the moisture on your skin?

I have a hoodie that I got at PCT Days last summer.....I have been wearing it in the Arizona desert while out hiking, etc and it's been phenomenal at keeping me warm when I need to be warm, and cool (and protected from the sun) when I need to be kept cool, over the last few months I have been temporarily living in Arizona. I just ordered the poncho and can't wait to add it to my quiver of outdoor gear. I love these videos. Thanks so much for sharing the background on your company.

Ha ! That is some serious cold! You should try our 8020 Long Sleeve as a first layer, All-Paca Hoodie as a 2nd layer, the All-Paca Fleece Ski-Gaiter for your neck (it is killer), and then whatever outer layers or parkas you normally wear on top. 🤙
You all should really consider making a scarf from the lightest alpaca you can find. Think like a shemagh but a little bigger. One of my favorite pieces of multi use gear that's been around since ancient times for a reason. More people are going back to things like a multi use scarf and I'm looking to make my own soon for shade, pillow, towel, under my pack straps, so many other uses. If I had access to alpaca by the yard..
Interesting. While overnighting at the Long Neck Lair hiker hostel, also an alpaca farm, on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, the owner who sold alpaca clothing said that alpaca wasn't as rugged as Marino Wool but was warmer than Marino Wool. Where's the proof that alpacha is warmer than Marino Wool when wet?

@App Gear Co Have gone on 2 hikes. One was 15 km and it was cold outside. Around -7°C and windy. Wore it under a jacked. Liked it very much. Then another hike 10km, snowing, then sunny and quite warm. Liked it also then. One skitrip under a shell and loved it. So Iceland approves 😄 thank you

I have an alpaca wool sweater. How do I make it less itchy?
Try tumbling it in the fluff cycle of your dryer (no heat) with some wool dryer balls for 20 minutes. People with sensitive skin generally wear protein fibers like merino and alpaca as a second layer. Alpaca is generally a comfortable fiber - but there are people with skin types that find most protein fibers a little scratchy. Also, a lot of the time with a new garment, you may be feeling short fibers that are caught in the fabric - and they stick straight out - so you are feeling the end of the fiber. Its a lot like when you get a fresh haircut and some very small clippings are in your collar. Generally, these types of garments get softer and softer and softer as they break in , and the short fibers from processing have fallen out.
I love my alpaca socks as they keep my feet dry and warm!!!!

Alpaca and merino are NOT more durable than synthetic fibers. Synthetic fibers have a significant higher tensile strength (especially nylon and polyester) and abrasion resistance than the former. Also, nylon has more innate stretch, where it can stretch and go back to shape some. Wool etc will stretch when its wet, but not return to its shape, though you can make it smaller by felting. But that changes it's characteristics some, like reducing breathablity and skin feel.
I've learned all this the hard way, and no longer will buy Alpaca or Merino if it doesn't have some nylon and/or polyester in it. Preferably at least 20%.
You can hawk your wares without giving misinformation.
I have never had a problem with either. I try to avoid forever fibers whenever possible. When buying wool that has Tensile to add strength. Tensile is made from wood chips and decomposes.
I honestly couldn’t care less about the environmental nuts, I just like warm socks!
