I hear these wonderful early 40s recordings and remember - Judy Garland started out as a pop sensation - her seamless delivery, her perfect control and flawless intonation - and the pop style of the day which she absolutely embodied - using vibrato for emotional effect, sliding up to the next note in an exaggerated 'crooning' style and singing in a throbbing low register - she was a master.

something about her when she appeared on screen she has an unexplainable Power... she knew what she had, so did her mother, in a way its a blessing and a curse. But she was definitely sent by God himself to deliver what people needed at that time.
Judy Garland was 16 during the entire filming of the 1939 MGM Classic movie The Wizard of Oz! I was the 1939 classic MGM movie Babes in Arms that at 16, Judy Garland was featured in! Then Judy Garland was featured in the 1940 movie Strike Up the Band, then she was featured in the movie Andy Hardy Meets Debutante! I have always loved the legendary, adorable, very pretty and extremely talented singer, actress, dancer, entertainer, performer, and person Judy Garland! Thak you for posting and sharing this classic performance!
I remember as a kid Andy Hardy movies were always on TV, along with “Boys Town” and “Angels With Dirty Faces”. All today’s children see are animated movies or movies were they blow something up.
I woke up this morning and the sun was shining, but I didn't see it. Think I drank my orange juice, but I don't know, I wouldn't guarantee it. Wore my yellow dress, or was it blue? Oh what's the use, I don't remember. Is it Monday, is it Tuesday, is it June or is it still December? Sat beside my window, watched the couples strolling by Felt so sorry for myself I couldn't even cry. Finally I pulled the shade, I couldn't stand the gaff. So I sat down and wrote my epitaph. I'm nobody's baby, I wonder why. Each night and day I pray the lord up above please send me down somebody to love. But nobody wants me, I'm blue somehow. Won't someone hear my plea and take a chance with me, because I'm nobody's baby now. Believe me No, Nobody's baby, and I've got to know the reason why. Last week I was walkin' down the street and met a boy and I said "Hey, maybe I was meant for you". But he only tipped his hat and shook his head, kept on walkin' down the avenue. Oh, nobody wants me, I'm mighty blue somehow. Won't someone hear my plea and take a little chance with me? Because I'm no-nobody's baby. I'm blue somehow. Won't someone hear my plea and take a chance with me? There's no denyin' I'm cryin', I'm lonesome on my own-some. I don't mean maybe, I'm nobody's baby
My school is doing a musical called Golly Gee Whiz and it’s based on Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. I got cast as Judy and one of the songs I have to sing is called “Nobody’s Sweetheart” which I just realized is definitely based on this song
All that beauty and outstanding talent,in one small package, and her mother and the studio, destroyed her.God bless you,Judy...you are truly missed.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ela estava tão linda nesse clip! A Judy era uma mulher linda!!! Sua voz era linda, forte e muito, muito mesmo bonita! Eu amo essa parte 2:21… ela faz um fraquinho tão bem feito! Nossa! 💗💗
It's pretty ironically sad how Besty strongly feels that she's "nobody's baby" by men when she's actually thought of as not "the girl-next-door', but really "Wonderful you"(in Summerstock) a few years later. Judy sang this song beautifully, as it feels like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". RIP JUDY GARLAND
Thank you so much for sharing ! Behind every note there is incredible Mastery and most importantly Soul...Judy Garland's creations were was simply out of this world!
Her voice and looks were great here, it's when she got older she really deteriorated and her voice was more shouting and didn't have the same quality it has here.
Susan S. I disagree. I think her voice sounded better and better as the years went on until her tv show was cancelled. She always had a powerful voice, MGM tamed it down. When you watch her sing It’s Love I’m After from Pigskin Parade when she was 14, you can see the exact same power you see when you watch A Star Is Born.
Ive watched this video many times as i love this woman :).. Anyways, anyone ever look behind Judy and see that girl sitting on the floor? Is it me or does she look like someone killed her dog?
She does seem very sad, doesn't she? But Judy is being paid a fair amount of attention to by that very debonair-looking gentlemen in back of Judy and to her right a bit.
There's not a song that she sings that isn't wonderful to hear. Plus when Mickey's singing with her in one of their films, it's more then twice the fun!
What's the real name of this movie? Is it "Andy Hardy Meets Debutante" or "Andy Hardy Meets The Debutante"? THE Debutante sounds correct. Andy Hardy Meets Debutante sounds like broken English.
I've wondered about this for years, even though I have the movie on dvd and could check. lol I think it's without the "the," because...this is something I read...it's meant as a bit of a nod to the then-current horror film titles like "Frankenstein Meets Dracula," etc.

She is supposed to be the same age as her friend in the strapless dark dress who is stylish and sophisticated. And look at what they did to Judy. She is in an unflattering and ill fitting white dress all wrinkled with big puffy sleeves and what looks like a weed stuck to her waist. It even looks like those straps are bra straps and not part of the dress. What a shame. And her hair. Get rid of the frizz around her neck. She was quite beautiful but they dressed her ugly.
