  • Hermann Scherchen (1891-1966) authored a classic book on conducting despite being an autodidact, he conducted countless premières and worked with most composers of his time. He was the first to conduct Pierrot lunaire after Schönberg, and the first to use Beethovens fast metronome markings (Norrington later did the same). His 1958 recordings of the Beethoven Symphonies remain a classic. This is a rehearsal of Beethovens Pastorale with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana from 1965.
