I have used to listen calssical music since i was 16 yeas old n during these 44 years from that time my hearing skill progressed very much but i couldnt find any composers like beethoven n any conductor like karajan.
Could you imagine standing in front of the orchestra, conducting while this is played? There are so many sublime moments in this symphony, it amazes me.
100% yes. I would extend that "underrated" to the whole 8th, along with the 7th and partially the 4th. They are so full of subtle "non-classical" nuances paired with great orchestral development - those are really shiny gems in his symphonic works.
@@knorgl It's like when you read or hear that the best symphonies are the odd ones and things like that. The fourth, the eighth and the seventh, each is better than the other. What in my opinion is Beethoven's least great symphony is the second, but the first movement of the second is also very good. The first symphony is not far behind.
An incandescently brilliant performance of Beethoven's personal favorite symphony. Yes, you gotta wonder about those 106 people who disliked this masterful performance. It is sheer perfection.
Sorry I have to disagree. Listened to all of Karajan's performance of Beethoven's symphonies on TV a long time ago. Technically brilliant, but he does not capture the Beethoven beat and passion. It makes the performance pedestrian as if the orchestra are playing all he right notes but can't wait to go to the pub. Listen to Bernstein, he knows the mind of Beethoven. Eroica and the 8th, superb perfomances.
This is the eighth gem in beethoven string of nine uncomparable Symphonies. It's also the shortest nonetheless one of the sweetest of all Symphonic music.
There has not been a more dramatic turning point in the history of music than Beethoven. With him, music becomes personal and deeply humane, vacillating restlessly between the constraints of the individual self and the yearning for absolute freedom. This is most obvious in his symphonies and string quartets.
Beethoven wasn't the turning point. He was the peak. He represented the perfect balance between personal/humane/absolute freedom while still operating under sound classical rules of constraint and logic. After him, music descends towards subjectivism and becomes less universal/relatable, a silver age.
I was this year in a concert with the conductor Javier Perianes in the Laiezhalle in Hamburg. It was so fantastic to hear the Symphony No.8 F#Major live. The Orchester have the name " Hamburger Symphoniker:
This is the first time I listen to Beethoven's 8th symphony. Now all the drums and basses are scaled down from the "Heroic Period" and there is a feeling of lightness and joyfulness (F-Major). Very enjoyable, it comes pretty much closer to a composition of Mozart! Except the finale, which is typical Beethoven: Heavy and somewhat bombastic.
+Marianne Uhrendorf Before making that kind of comments you should listen more often Beethoven 8th's symphony. It is typically Beethoven from the very beginning and could never be confused with a Mozart composition !
I have a bad habit of forgetting Beethoven's earlier classical-style music and thinking of him as a full-on romantic, but Marianne Uhrendorf has a point that much of Beethoven's music (including this piece but even more his early music) is influenced very heavily by Mozart. Although Beethoven is definitely distinct, you can absolutely hear Mozart in his compositions.
I think that both Mozart and Beethoven have very unique styles. When I listen to one, I do not hear the other. Some of the earlier Beethoven, as noted above, has a somewhat classical sound, which might make you think of Mozart, I guess.
Karajan unisce potenza e delicatezza.
My best guess is that they have a problem with something else- they dislike the particular orchestra that performed it, or are upset that they didn't use the correct extinct variants on common instruments that would have been used originally or something. They're too pædantic in any case.

The eighth is one of the most poignant. No nonsense type. Yet soothing. All nine are wonderful. Sheer genius.
