2:17 it's actually not lag efficient As when you power a single piece of redstone dust, it gives block updates to 24 neighbouring blocks and when you constantly power and unpower in 2 gt interval it creates more lag than the observer whereas the observer gives 6 block updates. Now the lag is actually not that much and for smaller scale like this is ok for the build as this way is cooler than observers.
@Jay1717_ I thought observers created more lag, but didn't fully understand how tick updates worked, thanks for the correction. That said, I was informed by a reliable source that the updates from dust only happen if the light level is low, and that by properly lighting around the redstone it would negate the light level check and thus negate the lag, or at least the worst of it. I'm not a technical Minecrafter, so feel free to correct me if I'm not understanding that accurately.
@jakekeltoncrafts the misconception being, dust "lights up" which causes it to emit light(it doesnt really) and light updates are false.. and dust updates the block in the radius of 2 blocks of diamond shaped cube no matter what. Hope it helped :)
@Jay1717_ Because it's looking for blocks to affect with the redstone power, regardless of if there are blocks there or not, where observes only look forwards and directly backwards, redstone looks in all directions. You can see I am not very technically savy, haha. Thanks for the clarification!
and you can make an on off switch with a pulse extender or some way to slow the fan’s “rotation” down to a stop by connecting a basic switch to the clock. would love to see this further explored.
@@mincat1412 Yeah! I was mostly focused on showcasing the building of the fan, but starting and stopping it is definitely possible depending on how much space you have to work with.
@itskingdot I'll see if I can put something together. It's a pretty simple piston feed tape. The andecite is attached to slime and honey blocks in a loop with pistons pushing them in a circle. At this point I know a lot more and could probably make it faster/better. Thanks for the suggestion!
Kota may have come up with his design on his own but he was not the first to do this, Iskall86 made this design in one of his apartment buildings on the Hermitcraft Season 10 server months ago
@@h.gatnaw With the moving fan? I've seen the unmoving fan before, but Kota was the first I saw to try to animate it. Absolutely could be wrong though!
That's pretty cool, but will definitely introduce noticeable lag since it's presumably always running and each redstone dust has 24 subsequent block updates around it
@KnightYoshi Only if you don't light up the blocks around it enough to negate the light update. It would also only run when you are around and turn off if you get far enough away to unload the chunk. No saying it won't add ANY lag, but depending on the PCs specs one or two fans I don't think will kill a frame rate. This is also completely in my biased opinion, so take that for what it is, haha.
This is an improvement for sure, but the animation is technically still a little off. The up/down blades appear to move in the opposite direction to the left/right blades. I’m not sure exactly if this can be fixed (and if so, how). Also it could be good to use redstone torches to invert the signal on two of the trapdoors so they return to the fan-shape when depowered (as it stands they will go flat). The torches have a 1 redstone-tick delay, so that matches the repeaters used here, but also only work with slower clocks so that might be a disadvantage. Good work anyway!
@kikivoorburg I started with the torch inversion but they burn out very quickly. You have a good point that they go back to default flat when off. Wonder if sticky pistons and redstone blocks could be used in combination with the on-off switch to power them on when the animation is off, then pull away when the animation is on.... As for the backwards fan blade, yeah, not sure it can be helped, just a feature of the trapdoors movements. But there are smart people in the community, so if it can be done eventually someone will figure it out. Thanks for the thoughts!
@runbcov8691 At that point you might want to look into using observers, like in the re-redesign by Bob 325 in the pinned comment. That should only activate the fan blades and not the blocks around it.

@@SpaceViking_ I think it's possible, especially since you could put the clock in the body of the plane and run the signal down the wing to the different turbines. Iron trapdoors would be loud, but so is an airplane, haha.
@@yaminoryuu9558 🤣🤣💀💀 Fair, fair. Though I think the Tick-tick-tick of 8 repeaters is a little different than the flipping of a trapdoor, the point is very valid!
First of all: Looks really good BUT Im wondering If it would Look a little cleaner If you actually would invert the trapdoors that need to be open on default (with redstone-torches) 🤷🏻♀️ Just a thought
@firebird2713 Tried it, and that was actually my first design, but redstone torches burn out after too many ticks a second, and at these pulse speeds they burn out quick, hence using the repeaters. You could slow it all down, but then the animation will look weird at a slow frame rate. But I had the same thought you did, especially for when it is off.
Create would be my go-to, but life is complicated enough in Vanilla I'm not breaking open that mess, haha. But yeah, look into Create, it does a TON of wild and smooth stuff and is a very powerful excellent mod.
When I was watching kota's video the first time I was wondering if there was a way to make it go from fully horizontal, to the cross, to fully vertical, to the cross and repeat; so that it looks like a two propeller fan with some after-image animation to smooth it out. Is it possible with how trapdoors work ?
@cctz_1 Technically yes, because trap doors are either in an On or Off state, so all you'd be doing is controlling which trap doors experience On or Off at different times and rates. The issue I can see with this idea, which is cool, is that it would take a lot of tick manipulation, which I think would end up with a much slower animation than would be feasible. These fans look ok because the brain assumes the blades are moving too quick and you're only getting a vague idea of the blade vs SEEING the blade. But if you drop the animation speed down too much to control the tick rates, I am not sure it will look good.
@The3gg Using a sticky piston to turn it on and off by moving the observer into position, with their observers set up, really works cleanly. Built it myself. I will say, it's almost *too* perfect? In that the trapdoors just bounce A state to B state and back in perfect sync, where both Kota's and mine have a *little* more randomness to them, but it's tight, clean, and easy to turn on and off.
@senv_n Fo' real. I am sure it could have helped. I did mess a bit with copper bulbs when working on this, but being unable to stack repeaters or comparators coming off it made it inefficient. But if someone else can come up with one that works that would be great. There are a few designs, one in the pinned comment, that only use observers, but imo they are so fast they lose some of the animation effect.
the way you talk is either like a mysticat or craftyredstone guy : speak with the tone and stop before finishing the last word then proceed to continue
Something I need to improve on. Even with years of streaming and video making, I still run into issues with finishing complete thoughts; partly because my brain is thinking about what is next and partly because I tend to ramble. This video was also chopped to heck in editing, hence the multiple audio fluctuations, haha. Greatly appreciate the feedback though!

I like it I really do but I just so happen to be watching this after a video explaining why redstone lags so much and.. this don't look good in that regard
@Robogames05 Mind linking it here? Would love to see it myself. I only use redstone for aesthetic gimmicks like this, so I don't have a bunch of redstone machines everywhere weighing my PC down. And according to a guy who *is* a technical redatoner, as long as the dust line and blocks around it are lit up at or above the light level redstone produces, it negates the light level check, thus not producing lag, or at least a lot less of it.

@moamoei I could be wrong on this, no server/redstone expert, but a single clock moving a couple of trapdoors doesn't seem terrible in the lag department. I had 8 clocks running 11 fans in the same area of this world with 0 hint of lag. And redstone lines turning on and off seems like it would be less laggy than 8 observers per fan. A more knowledgeable person can correct me, but I think if you are only adding a handful of these in one area of your world for aesthetics you should be fine. 🤷♂️
aslong as you have only a few clocks (say a central bus for every fan of matching speed) it should be fine, or atleast less laggy than one observer clock per fan, but i'm no technical minecrafter either
@mehhie6685 100%. And I don't see anyone making a hundred of these in one area, even for the aesthetics. I think the auditory problems would be a reason to limit at that point more than the lag, haha.
@tubach1082 I had 12 running in this area without a hint of lag, plus mods and shaders. I am sure you could make enough to get some lag, but one or two, unless you have a really low end PC, you should be fine. But I get that it's not for everyone.

Ohhh my god this looks so good
2:17 it's actually not lag efficient
As when you power a single piece of redstone dust, it gives block updates to 24 neighbouring blocks and when you constantly power and unpower in 2 gt interval it creates more lag than the observer whereas the observer gives 6 block updates.

I thought it was going to be a mod, and that's why I kinda avoided this Kota's video. But holy fan, it actually works on vanilla.
@gdottothegamer1001 It might be loud, it might be CPU intense, but it is beautiful.
This is amazing! Also I love the drill mechanism at the start and was wondering if we could get a tutorial on that aswell?

This is also completely in my biased opinion, so take that for what it is, haha.
oh nice saw his video on it
@@justthat69 The algorithm is "you like fans?! Check out all these other fans!"
Cool, would like to see a design where you don't need blocks on the sides of the blades and can enclose it in trapdoors instead
@runbcov8691 At that point you might want to look into using observers, like in the re-redesign by Bob 325 in the pinned comment. That should only activate the fan blades and not the blocks around it.

The circuit might be silent but those trapdoors will be loud as heck... and my computer fan will be too with it running the whole time XD
@anominon Hahahaha. Time to add a start and stop lever and put the fan on the top of a tower! Haha. But trueeee.

@@yaminoryuu9558 🤣🤣💀💀 Fair, fair. Though I think the Tick-tick-tick of 8 repeaters is a little different than the flipping of a trapdoor, the point is very valid!

Left a comment. Brilliant solution to continue to use observers! And still keep everything so nice and compact. Awesome job!
First of all: Looks really good
BUT
Im wondering If it would Look a little cleaner If you actually would invert the trapdoors that need to be open on default (with redstone-torches) 🤷🏻♀️
Just a thought
@firebird2713 Tried it, and that was actually my first design, but redstone torches burn out after too many ticks a second, and at these pulse speeds they burn out quick, hence using the repeaters. You could slow it all down, but then the animation will look weird at a slow frame rate. But I had the same thought you did, especially for when it is off.
This is what UA-cam should be about, this is how the Minecraft community should be
This is what I signed up for man 🥲✨✨
@KallMeMoh Here for each other helping to make everyone's world a better place! Here for many more ideas!
i wonder if theres a texture pack/mod that makes trapdoor animations smooth

@The3gg Check out the pinned improved design! Dustless, fast, clean, and steady!
@ oh nice I’ll check it out! I made a dustless one a few months back but maybe theirs is smaller!
@ DEFINITELY smaller. Thanks!
@ I think the toggle is the key as it’s essentially a 2 frame animation. Mine is pretty similar to theirs but used a slower clock
nice!
will the 1 tick copper bulb actually simplify this? they took something for us that shant be forgiven

@Robogames05 Mind linking it here? Would love to see it myself.
I only use redstone for aesthetic gimmicks like this, so I don't have a bunch of redstone machines everywhere weighing my PC down. And according to a guy who *is* a technical redatoner, as long as the dust line and blocks around it are lit up at or above the light level redstone produces, it negates the light level check, thus not producing lag, or at least a lot less of it.

lag machine !?
How to make your game lag
@tubach1082 I had 12 running in this area without a hint of lag, plus mods and shaders. I am sure you could make enough to get some lag, but one or two, unless you have a really low end PC, you should be fine.
