I want to get an upgrade for my son for xmas, he’s been riding a stock surron for a year. What are your favorite relatively simple upgrades (where you don’t need an engineering degree)?
Hahaha. Thats funny because I am an engineer, but I would say first upgrade should be footpegs. They make the biggest difference for cheap. If he is taller than 5'8" probably riser handlebars next. Then after those.. you have a choice, depending also on the budget; cosmetics or performance. Since he is young I assume, cosmetics mean a lot ;) My son loves that seat cover.. it was easy to put on with a staple gun. He got it at thrillseekers.com they will customize it and even put a name on it. Pretty cool. If you have a bigger budget and he wants more speed. This Torp controller is a good buy to get you extra power on the stock battery, while still letting you upgrade the battery later.
Would be nice to see a comparison between the KO Pro vs The Torp 500.
Coming soon! I will set the KO to match the settings of the Torp and we will do a bunch of tests.
Nice video. Which model year lbx are the bikes? What upgrades, if any, on your son’s bike?
they are both 2022 LBX. My son's bike at the time of this video had a Torp TC500 controller. The rest is all cosmetic (seat cover, graphics, handlebar, footpegs, etc) His bike now has my 16/19 wheelset and a 3/4" riser on the rear shock.
Didnt even think about the fact that you’ll need a rim lock with more power. Considering the upgrade personally but trying to check out everything I’ll need.
In order to run the rim lock, you have to drill out an extra slot in your rim won’t you?
Did you happen to buy a separate rim already pre drilled for a Rimlock? Curious.
Thanks for sharing opinions in the video, definitely helps to see what others think about the controller upgrade. Cheers
If you decide to do a rim lock, then yes you will have to drill a hole for it. You don't have to have a rim lock if you run high enough PSI. That will keep the tire in place for the most part.. e.g. 20psi or higher. But that sucks for traction in a lot of cases. I didn't do a rim lock. I would rather put the money towards a new wheel like a 16/19 or 18/21 wheelset ;)
@@clu801 probably saved me a flat tire right there since I use it for trial and im going to install the controller today.
@@alarma808 nice! I hope it works out for you. Sounds fun!
@@clu801 I actually did the installation today. Everything worked first try without issues. Calibrating worked like a charm. It’s even recording where you’re going on the map. That’s so useful to find the good spots again in the woods. Can not recommend it enough!
@@alarma808nice! that is awesome!
What’s the top speed on Surron now?
With that Torp at 7.3kW and 49% phase amps . I got to 53 mph. I am a big guy though ;)
@@clu801 I didn't see where you set phase amps in your other video. What is it called?
In the app they call it Motor Current
Im a small lightweight guy with torp500 and small trial wheels. I get 62mph with stock sprocket. That’s max for the stock battery and you shouldn’t do that for long. The motor doesn’t care so far.
