Yoochan correctly deduced that he could only have 22 or 45 here, and he was trying to figure out which he had and if he might have a better spot later. He deduced correctly.

One interesting thing to think about here is that when he starts tanking for several minutes with a hand this strong, if he ultimately calls and ends up winning the hand it might actually be grounds for a slowroll accusation. I know if i had 88 in the hand and didn't get either snapped off or 'if you got it you got it' crying called within 10 seconds, I would be thinking about Vegas and the bleeping Mirage for the entire 3 minutes with absolutely positively no thought whatsoever that I was beat. If someone turned over AA after making me wait that long I would be absolutely livid and feel like I was slowrolled (not even nitrolled given how unlikely the 45 is there).

      Chris jams for 4.4x pot.
Against 4.4x pot that percentage increases even further. That's the theory of MDF. Now ignore that concept and consider that Chris has absolutely no bluff combos in that spot.

  • @tristanjinx

I think it really depends on Chris’ table image. If he only ever passively calls down going for value with the stone nuts on the river, this is an easy fold as he’s an old man coffee. If however it’s possible for him to have random sets and be going for value, the fold is bad. I think Yoochan made a good fold.

Absolutely insane fold, and again what would Chris be check shoving with for value? Limp called pf, check called small bets on flop and turn, and suddenly decided to raise 9x the river bet and jam river on an ace high board against the pf raiser? Not to mention this dude is no denis the menace nor Alan Keating which is capable of doing some insane stuff like that. Would a set of 8s or 2s really not attempt to check raise the flop or turn? Would pocket 3s really call flop and turn to hit a set on the river? I really see 4 combos of 45s being the only possible hand that a normal amateur player would really have at this spot. Not to mention Yoochan is blocking all the Aces up two pairs.

So there must be some history here, since I dont know this Chris fellow. If Chris never makes this bet without the absolute nuts, then it's an easy fold. He jammed almost 5x Pot here. If a player like Mariano, or say airball or keating makes this play, I dont know if it's possible to fold. I cant see hands like sets making this play, as your only going to be called by AA. But lets say the villian is holding a hand like AJc or AJd, then he can theoretically use his A as a blocker and jam to force a fold out of all hands. I can even argue that a hand like 43s can jam. But again if Chris is a player that can NEVER make this move, then it's an easy fold.

It was a great fold, but it’s not as crazy as Simple Rick Poker made it out to be. Think about it, nothing gets there except 45 and there’s nothing else on the board, no other straights or flushes. A smaller set would have shoved way before the river and would have been snap called. The only thing he CAN have is 45 or a bluff but what bluffs are there? None. Even pocket kings wouldn’t play the hand that way. The only person who couldn’t put him on 45 is Simple Rick, and his excitement and exasperation about what wasn’t that crazy says it all. Good thing he’s up in the booth making uninsightful poker commentary and not down on the table getting completely rekt by 45 when he has top set and can’t believe his eyes at the sight of three aces.

“ it’s beyond impressive that yoochan hasn’t snap called or even thinking of this impossible fold “
you gotta throw in the obvious “ there’s only one hand that beats him!!!! One!!!! “
This fold is different than most incredible laydowns y? Yoochan had to put him on the exact cards he had! Only one hand that beats him !!!”
