I've have done countless exercices on that subject without really understanding why things sometime go right or wrong. This is the clearest explanation I've come across so far. Thank you!
I was pretty comfortable in this endgame before, but the idea of key squares you illustrated makes it so much easier to remember. Thank you for that, it really helps!
I had no idea of key squares concept. Wonderful video! When they start awarding Nobel prize for Chess teaching, I sure will send your name for nomination. You sir, are excellent!!
I've never seen these examples of key squares before with a single pawn endgame! Very instructive, bring on those end games!!! Thank you for showing this, great lesson 👍
Narrative accounts of pawn endgames are lacking in many courses. For me, it is much easier to understand and remember things, when the explanations are stored in my auditive memory. I tend to remember everything better, when i "hear" somebody speaking of it in my mind. Thank you for being that voice!
Congratulations on hitting 10k subscribers. Your lessons are always clear and one takes away a deep understanding of the issues you were elucidating. You are a brilliant source for improvers and your motivation to help learners comes over in spades. I hope your subscribers also support you by buying your brilliant courses on Chessable.
So humbled to hear your kind thoughts. Really motivating. I would really appreciate that support 🙏 Also I believe studying those Chessable courses is a very important prerequisite to consolidate these lessons and fight against the illusion of learning.
😍 much more easy to understand than lots of materials I've seen about King pawn vs. King endgames! Knowing what and where the key squares are makes all the difference. Thanks! It's not on my short term schedule, but I want to just practice a ton of these simple endgames for a week or two. I want to know these by heart so I need less or no calculating. It's typical to have some time troubles in these positions so speed and accuracy combined are very welcome.
Dr. Can, this was a magnificent lesson! I've always been lost on these wide-open endgame positions like this not knowing where to move the king or what the plan was. This was like a light coming on to finally understand the goal of these king-pawn endgames and why I kept losing these positions and missing on these puzzles. Thank you!!
Another excellent video! I am so glad that you are producing such "lower level" videos. I think it will help you reach a much wider audience and i would like to see your channel grow!. It is one of the best chess improvement channels out there!!
Nice video and hi from denmark: I really also like this one: White: King f3, Rook f1 Black: King h4 (Black to move.) Rules: you can only move the rook from white, when you can deliver checkmate! Have a great day all
A very enlightening video 💯👏👏👏yes indeed endgame books has caused me soooo much confusion 😔it's distance opposition, oblique opposition, diagonal opposition, which is best 🤯 thanks for such simple and lucid explanations thank you 🎉💯👏 I learned something new
Learning these patterns is like discovering fire! Of all the great information I get from your lessons, these types of fundamental patterns and systems are the most useful. They can immediately be plugged into your brain and upgrade your game. Do you have a playlist of all the fundamental patterns like these? Where did you learn them all? Thanks Doc
Lovely feedback, thank you! Please check the endgame and chess strategy playlist for endgame + positional patterns. I learned it accross the years by careful and passionate study.
Opposition is one of the first things I went through with my chess coach. it's amazing you can play casually for years without knowing all this stuff. It's more than just pushing pawns and blundering queens :)
You should find some harder ones:) Obviously doesn't really exist with single pawn endgames but would be cool to do and endgame series from easiest to hardest maybe so everyone can follow. Kinda like Silmans complete endgame course
I have never been disappointed with your videos. Even when the topic is something I know (or should know) the video serves to reinforce my knowledge. End game considerations are often a study afterthought. After all, without opening knowledge and middle game skill will we even get there? End game understanding should shape our middle game strategy so we can arrive at one of these winning (or drawing) positions. That said, I would value some lessons on the middle game when the position looks hopelessly balanced. These situations are the hardest for me personally. How do I create an advantageous imbalance either tactically or positionally? How do I choose between competing plans (if I can find any) when my evaluations look roughly comparable?
Love your kind feedback, thank you! Have you checked the Playlist Chess Strategy Deep Dive here on YT? I will keep on producing middlegame content, and choosing among competing plans too!
@@Dr.CansClinic Great! Thank You! Just finished CSDD#1. Shame on me for not realizing just how many videos you had published before I became a subscriber. What a gold mine! 🎁
@@Dr.CansClinic I don't know what tools UT provides site owners. I found the "deep dive" videos by a keyword search on All Videos. It was during that process that I discovered how prolific you have been. With such a large video library organizational options become more valuable and useful to site visitors. You may only have a judicious choice of title words at your disposal. I only found three numbered videos in the "deep dive" series, but there are more. The titling format seems to vary somewhat. If you have recurring themes, titling consistency may help visitors sort through them.
after this video i played 2 games against guy who has 17K games i got 700 and win both games in end game where before his lessons i totally sucked , that's how this guy is good and more people needs to hear about him , thank you Doc !
Oh, the natural evolution from this video is how to checkmate with a king and rook or king and queen using a box to contain the opponent. I've played so many games while I've been endlessly chased around the board because and just resigned because they didn't know how to checkmate.

Lovely to hear this. Learning is beautiful, but we should do our best to cut down the noise and extrinsic cognitive load.

Now add a rook to each side. Not so simple anymore then. 😀
