progjazzfusion I am 25 years old and if you go look at my channel you'll see I am into many different things, none of which have anything to do with Mark. It was meant as a joke, I am a HUGE fan of Mark's playing but our styles are very far apart. 😃 😃
When I was younger I thought of Mark as an extremely flashy player, because I automatically correlated good with flashy. Now I see him more like a modern Steve Gadd. Pocket and clarity to the point where playing within a groove is chops.
Marks sense of syncopation is probably the most out there and bizarre of any drummer right now, which is why everybody has been biting his style. Chris is mind boggling but thats due to his inhuman speed and precision, not necessarily due to complexity.
no. what they are doing both in djent and in this kind of jazz has been around loooong before in lesser known older jazz and fusion, and some progressive music since at least the 70s and thru the 80s & 90s...thats where it was first explored...so nothing new, just new to you and others who dont know musical lineage enough of what came before to influence what some may think is new now, but has been around decades back....it's just finally becoming more mainstream so getting attention as of recent
progjazzfusion 1. Way to act like the typical snotty jazz-head. 2. Simply making the connection between genres - jokingly - doesn't in any way mean that he was trying to imply that one "stole" from or was otherwise influenced by the other. 3. For you own sake, please try to learn to be open to all kinds of music. 4. Progressive music and fusion isn't quite as obscure as you'd like to think. 5. I hope you're having a great day and that you're making the most out of this summer.
1 - i love many metal and rock styles equally as I do jazz 2 - I dont think he was joking, just didnt know this is not new in jazz 3 - I probably like more diverse music than you and can play it on multiple instruments. 4 - The fusion and progressive I like is of the more obscure kind and has been for some decades now. I worked my way to that after running thru the usual more known 70s gateway bands long before. 5 - Thank you I am and I hope you are too. If you would like to discuss further Im up for that, including what styles and bands you like, if you play instruments, are you in a band etc. Thanks for being civilized, but I think you took me wrong. I am passionate about what came before being known, and this djent trend has gotten out of hand by being given credit for more than it's worth by younger people not aware of what came before.
You could easily hear a totally different set part ala straight ahead be bop in this but instead Mark takes you on a rhythmic journey w out the stops or familiar landmarks ( no pun intended ).
I'm glad Ornette Coleman let the Genie out of the bottle in 1959 - 5 decades later its all grown up and ready to leave home. Not always pretty but my god its awesome isnt it!?

This songs foundation and heart comes from pure rhythm and as musicians we need to appreciate this Here the pianist from the second section to the climax to coin a phrase usually given to the sax player Blows all over the song in a way that detracts from the heart of the composition wow he sure can play but on this occasion I think his playing apart from weakening the foundation clashed with the horn In my humble opinion less would have been more on this very special song Feel the Rhythm
i was scrolling down, expecting to find a comment of a similar nature and here it is, right on top, using the exact wording that i imagined so naturally i cracked up due to sheer surprise.
Be careful what you wish for he picks his feet and may not be human Ok just be yourself and see what you can add in to the mix the world is falling apart and we need more music n less fracking politics
In my opinion this is the best jazz song ever composed. And I've heard 7 jazz songs.
lol that bass and drum lock up tho
You are the biggest jazz boy for hearing so much jazz songs
When I grow up I wanna be Mark Guiliana
but.. but... You're... EdTalenti

Joe Sorcic aw damn 😔
The good thing is we all know you'll be yourself doing an amazing and necessary work.
A testament to practicing with a metronome.
His timing is impeccable isnt it
It goes waaaaaaaaaaaay beyong practicing...
It is mastering time & space, physical mechanisms, softness, emptyness, musicality as its best
i heard my metronome practices to him
If anything a testament to natural ability and the capacity to operate at a much higher cpu than most !
@@therealrussellsmyth this is the opposite
One of the most musical, creative and innovative drummers around!.. humbling to watch him at his craft.
I was this close to driving 14 hours to this gig. Now I wish I had :(
Mark is beyond amazing. Unbelievably tight and dynamic.
Easily my favourite drummer and quartet atm, both Fabian and Shai work so well with the music!
The way they repeat the off-kilter beat from the intro at 4:25 is simply mind blowing
Sublime
Those cymbals are beautiful ..
Those cymbals are PRETTY
When you came for that beginning part, that snare and kick drum playing though!
the intro really reminds me of locked in a basement, by heernt-granted that's another one of mark's bands so go figure-always kills me.
pure love of music.
When I was younger I thought of Mark as an extremely flashy player, because I automatically correlated good with flashy. Now I see him more like a modern Steve Gadd. Pocket and clarity to the point where playing within a groove is chops.
Brian Blade Fellowship vibe, love it
one of his Drum hero (so is mine XD) is brian blade
Those are some beautiful cymbals
That kit sounds fantastic.
Creativity and soul and my god that bass drum
Memorize the beginning!
wish the recording was a little cleaner. This is fucking gold
Mark is an absolute BEAST. He plays so simple, but man, it sounds like a huge stuff.
Simple is definitely NOT a word I'd use to describe his drumming.
ssadfa defd there's not huge bizarre things in his drumming. It's not like Chris Coleman, as an example.
Marks sense of syncopation is probably the most out there and bizarre of any drummer right now, which is why everybody has been biting his style. Chris is mind boggling but thats due to his inhuman speed and precision, not necessarily due to complexity.
ssadfa defd totally agree
Having this kind of dinamics on the drums is the hardest thing to learn👍💀
Man!!!!!!!!!!
This Gretsch Brooklyn sounds so good!!!
And of course fantastic quartet!
gets better everytime i watch this
I wish I could be like Mark Guiliana when I play
Any advice..?
Beautiful you guys
bass and drums are Locked ♬♫
Anyone know why Mark doesn't use washers on his cymbals, I've noticed this in a few of his video's. Absolutely love this band and his drumming!
I wish this was a better quality recording :/
a sabian video and the worst sound is the ride cymbal hahaha
This is fire
The saxophonist is my friend's professor at Towson University!
Mark killin it als always.. Love The Tuning on that Kit!
duuuuuuuude, love it
Hey there Sabian, could you tell us the specific model and sizes Mark is using here, they sound great!

progjazzfusion lmao get a sense of humor its being called djazz to be funny we don't have to be serious with music 24/7
You could easily hear a totally different set part ala straight ahead be bop in this but instead Mark takes you on a rhythmic journey w out the stops or familiar landmarks ( no pun intended ).
Who is this guy? I love him. What a great sound!!
A little bit of heernt
Fantastic groove
This is music!
Mark is THE man.
ESPECTACULAR
I'm glad Ornette Coleman let the Genie out of the bottle in 1959 - 5 decades later its all grown up and ready to leave home. Not always pretty but my god its awesome isnt it!?
this is the craziest shit ive ever seen
This is fucking my intelligence up, by being more intellectual than I feel i am. I love this uncomfortable feeling! It's so enlightening!
he's basically doing a Baião beat
wow amazing
Love it....
Anyone know where I can find a chart for this?
Djent takes a left turn...
Also, I'll bet The Fringe would appreciate this...

Love the fact that Mark can produce such tasty drumming on a minimal kit.
brilliant mind

Feel the Rhythm
What Are the cymbal details?
14 hats, 20 ride with rivets on the left and a 22 ride on right, all from new artisan elite series
i think it is it
this cymbals are really hot and tasty!
But. Does it Djent?
FanaticalDrummer I reckon that start does a shit ton
Crud, I thought I was gonna be the first to make a Djent reference. Well played, sir!
EQ-smoove If you think Meshuggah is the only band that defines "Djent". You need exposure lol.
absolutely.
i was scrolling down, expecting to find a comment of a similar nature and here it is, right on top, using the exact wording that i imagined so naturally i cracked up due to sheer surprise.
Nice......!!!
um baião na línea de bateria
Baião (:
What kind of drumset is he playing there?
ClemensLotz A Gretsch of sorts. Not sure which, I know he's into the Broadkaster series
Sometimes I miss a good old times, when Mark played in Phronesis. But then I think about Anton Eger and I'm okay again.
VERY NICE JOB!
Would love to see you play the TEXAS JAZZ FESTIVAL!
