Thts great
Have you seen any of his videos on how he kills and butchers the meat birds? Quick, clean and humane. To me this is even more important, everybody likes to hold and pet baby chicks but knowing how to humanely help them fulfill their purpose and not suffer shows more caring than anything.
sometimes you will make them bleed no matter how careful u try not to . A q tip dipped in mineral oil...( you can warm the oil if you want )....apply a drop or two...to his vent ...It will fall off in a day or so and no bleeding . Works really well . Good luck with the peepers .
old man this is similar to fighting chickens for when they they get cut in fights u dip them in mineral oil to heal the wounds
Thanks
Wait would coconut oil work too
@@fragdiamondz6666 yes
Thanks, gonna try this!
It is really important to watch their butts! We wiped them regularly after one got backed up. I dipped their little butts in warm water and then wiped gently until clean. When I washed him out, the longest poop came out and kept coming out. Needless to say he felt a whole lot better!
😂😂
He was full of S*#! 🤣😂🤣😂 That's cute 😂
I put COCONUT OIL on their vents with a q-tip to prevent this problem if they don't already have it.
1st time chick owner. I had one of my chicks that had this problem and had no idea what it was. Thank you for the video and instructions! She is back to normal and thriving 💜🐣 I’ve watched several of your chicken videos before I purchased mine & it’s helped tremendously! Love the videos keep them coming 👍🏻
Glad to help
Me as well, thank you josh 🤩
Ditto
Can I use olive oil?
@@malgorzatamyrzha7598 that is what I used!
Never thought I'd have to do this, but here I am!
Ha!
Exactly what I said..lol
😂😂😂
Same here same here
This has been killing my chicks and accidently I come by this video. It's helpful and I thank you for teachings Papa. Talking to you from Rwanda.
A cotton bud dipped in olive oil helps too, it also helps further sticking
coconut oil is a better option, as it has antibacterial properties
Coming up on 5 years since this video was put out and this guy still responds....that is truly amazing. Thank you for the knowledge. My chicks dont have pasty butt but ive been dreading it as a BRAND NEW chick owner. I did source my chicks from a local farm though and they were about 10 days old and extremely healthy looking (as far as a beginner like me could tell). Some of them even seem to be getting the start of feathers on their wings! Thank you for your channel and knowledge. I have subbed!
i just got 6 baby chicks last night from tractor supply and i noticed that one of them got poopy butt and i didn’t realize this could kill it! thank you so much for being informational since this is my first time raising chickens!!
Yes same here, only one of mine got poopy butt out of the 6. But the poor thing was beginning to be lethargic
Idk why this video got recommended to me but this is just wholesome 🥺 I don’t have any chicks but this man was just so gentle and chill. Bless this man! 💕
I found a old timer that told me years ago how to avoid that. Before you get your chicks hard boil a dozen organic eggs. Once a day take just the yoke and mash it with the same amount of there chick starter. They love it! I have never had one get pasty butt since I have done this! Hope it helps.
hmmm interesting...I may try this
Yes, thank you. I'll give this a try too
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this I lost 2 chicks and couldn't figure out what was wrong hopefully this will save the others
Update it did I haven't lost a single one again and they are all enjoying their new coop
I'm watching you do it and seeing your method work. For some reason that never works for me. I end up bathing them in warm water using a cup to run water over their backside and then massaging the area to break it up. Pat the chicks dry. I use a heat plate instead of a light they run under it hide for an hour or two and emerge no worse for wear. Great info on this Josh.
Thanks
This is my third time raising chicks, but first time dealing with pasty butt! Loved this video, it can be nerve wracking handling chicks as they're so teeny tiny in the beginning!
Same here! But our chicken has a worse poopy butt then their severe case. So I’m pretty worried it’s taken an hour and still hasn’t came off!
@@babiesarefoodnotfriend I'm dealing with it to. But I think my chick also has an infection:(. This is my worst year for chicks. We've never has issues and lost many. We've raised them for over 50 years! Still learning! The chick seems lethargic. Won't make sounds. Lay her head. No peeping. Its so frustrating and sad! :( working on healing her. Idk what to do about infections. Was told there's nothing we can do:(
Thank you greatly !!!!! I was raised on a farm until i was 9 but it’s amazing how much you learn and how much you don’t know. How much you don’t know is far greater!!! Thank you for the tough stuff!!!
I've had to dip their bottoms to kinda soak to get them cleaned up before . And a dab of Vaseline to prevent the next stool from immediately sticking ..
Poop stuck to the vent can be a sign if worms. If you get a chick and poop is constantly getting stuck to its vent, separate it and give it a dewormer. This has saved many of my chicks.
how do I tell if my chicken has worms? TELL ME PLEASE
I notice my Sick Cockatiel had this, and started looking for videos to help me do it correctly, and I ran into your video.
Thank you so much, this was very helpful. My Cockatiel is doing better already. Thank you!
I appreciate this. For new bird owners this can be a terrifying condition if they don't know how to cope with it. I've known coop keepers who think this condition is always fatal and just put them out of their mystery when this happens.
Your video came up first. Thank you for the assistance. We are first time chick raisers.
My family is pretty new to taking care of chickens and our latest barred rock hatchlings we got one the other day had the start of pasty butt, I was worried something was seriously wrong but after I watching a few videos on this I was happy to learn this can be easily treated :) grateful to the whole farming community on yt otherwise I feel like I’d be pretty lost by now
Everyone have a good Friday!Every Day may not be Good...But there is something Good in Every Day.
Noah Gallman no😡
Great info! I have old baby cereal bowls... They work great for putting a small amount of warm water, dunk the tush, wait a minute or so, and use a qtip to wipe away the stool and clean the outside of the vent! Love the channel!
I just got my first chicks yesterday and noticed that some of their poor bums were "clogged" and then I found this! Thanks so much for this video. My ladies have nice clean booties now 😁
🤣😂😀😆🐣🐤🐥
1st time chick owner and I'm super appreciate your easy to follow video my babies are good now thanks to you!!!
Glad to help!
I use a cotton ball and warm water. You just keep rinsing and stroking until they are clean.
I think it's from over feeding and sometimes bedding is too high .I notice they pick at their bottom but when their fat they can't reach.
My hens just hatched chicks, and they are sooo cute! Thank you for the information because I bought chicks a long time ago and one of them had this and i did it the wrong way, then about a day later it died😢
But I will make sure to do it the right way so thank you.
I really like the way you talk with and handle the animals 😊 thanks for the education!
So nice of you
Love how gentle and loving he is.
thanks...funny how we take a look at someone and think we know the content of their hearts...only when we listen do we find what's really inside a man's heart
I kinda base my comment on how you treat your bird is all👍🏽
All of my baby chickens died like that because I didnt knew how to save them from pasty butt and one of my chicken just died right now but now I think I can fix the problem by watching this video. Thank you so much for this tutorial
learn how to care for your chickens before you get them my friend....chicks are very fragile so watch a ton of vids. I have alot of great info out there if you'll look at the "everything chickens" playlist! You'll be successful! Hang in there
Thanks for the video. You're a great teacher. I think a couple of my chicks got pasty butt because my kitten is way too interested in the chicks. So I have modified their living space to give them more privacy from kitty. Plus daily vent cleaning on the 2 - of course. Thanks for the friendly, helpful vid!
Tysm u helped me with my chick who had that stuff on his butt and I got it off and now he's happy as can be!
I must say you are the kindest, caring farmer, and everything Aspen said!
I want to thank you for this video. It may have saved the life of a very young bird at the rescue I volunteer for 🥰 Poor little thing had poop backed up and I had no idea how to help it. After seeing your video and using a Q-tip with warm water the little bird did the most humongous poop 💩 Thank you 😁❤️
Yesterday i bought one but i really loved him ❤ today he got really sick and he got a pasty butt soo i opened this vedio and it really helped my babyy thank you so much ❤😭
Omg I'm glad I knew something was wrong. Couple have hard hard poops stuck and were not getting gains....thanks for this!
OmG you have no idea how much you have eased my fears. The runt of the chicks keeps getting blocked up and I was really scared she was gonna die. It’s day two of cleaning her bottom, and I’m really hoping she gets better.
First time getting chicks and I was freaking out when I saw this so I started looking for an explanation and this video really helped! Thank you!
Glad I could help!
I just want to say a big thankyou to you My Brother❤❤
You Saved My baby chicks being dead😢
Bro your 5 years old method still worked in 2024 you a. Literally a great person❤
Once again thankyou❤
Love the way he explains!!!
Thanks! 😃
I have a chick with pasty bum, I found that a gentle stream of lukewarm water really helped me. I tired with rags and q tips to start but it seems to rough for my liking. I dried the bird off well to not chill it and everything seems good 2 days later. Maybe a few little dirty spots but the vent is staying nice and clear.
many ways to skin a cat ...glad you found a way that works for ya
thank you so much. i saved two chicks’ lives.
:)
Thanks so much for making this video. It was very reassuring to watch. Two of my new eight chicks had big poop globs stuck to their vents, and I cleaned it gently off with a dot of Dawn and warm water. Then I rubbed them dry, and put them back under their heat lamp. They’re happily grooming themselves. Which is adorable.
Oh...sorry about the storm damage. I could see the concern clearly on your face. God takes care of decent folks like youall.
What a blessing to be blessed to bless someone else. So happy and blessed to have found the channel years ago.
First time commenting on UA-cam... THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! I was so worried about my chicks and they are doing so much better now!!
I love people that love animals. I'm a huge animal lover and love to see videos of people teaching and caring for animals. I found exactly what I needed I'm having a problem with a hen with poppies butt. Thank you for sharing.
I raised Keats this year I ended up having to keep them seperated they just grew so much faster than the chicks I had. They start off so small it's crazy how big they get so fast. Can't wait to see how they compare to your meat birds.
I wiped my first chick butt a few days ago My barred rock chicks are very patient with this first time chicken owner
They love worms but the white grubs are their chocolate! Its so cute watching em chase each other trying to steal each others treats
Great video 👍
Thank you for the info, I googled the problem with my 4 day old chick and this video popped up! You probably saved Bo's life!!! Problem solved! She immediately pooped, so she was definitely in trouble! Just subscribed and liked your page!
Welcome aboard
Thank you. This is my second batch of chicks to have this, and you have reassured me that I was treating it right.
Whoever got to marry this man is the luckiest lady alive 💕

He seems to perfectly perfect.

Good job though hun on a serious note .
Have a great day

I just bought baby chicks today and saw the hard poop stuck to her once I got home and I’m so glad I found your video cause I had no idea what to do
I love how you are so gentle with them 🥰 new subscriber!
welcome to the channel!
Welcome God bless you
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! My baby chicken was about to die, he looked so sad… immediately after I cleaned his butt he pooped I was so happy!!! THANK YOU SK MUCHHHHH
Thank you for this, I lost one of my babies today because of this. Even after I cleaned her off. I think I was too late getting to her. First time chicken owner and doing lots of research.
I have one I think is going to die from it too. I’ve cleaned it up but it’s still completely swollen back there and now the baby is falling over and having a hard time walking. I’m thinking I didn’t catch it in time.
Sometimes they get a bit clogged inside too. Sometimes you can gently coax it out.
Same here but mine died 3 days ago😞
Ew
Ew
We just got 20 Cornish Cross in the mail this week. I inspected each one yesterday and wiped each butt with warm water and a cotton pad. Luckily, none of them had pasty butt. They are super resilient.
well...if they don't have pasty butt...ya dont' need to wipe them my friend lol..but I don't guess it can hurt
Great video. I love how gentle and loving you are towards your chicks. I just became a chicken mamma and I'm so excited. They are 3 weeks old and growing strong. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Gosh those little guineas are just too cute!
I really love this. I just got 50 chicken two days ago. It's my first time. I have a lot to learn
Thank you for sharing this info. I just started with my new girls and I noticed that there was one that has
" 💩 butt " this morning.
I watched the video and I cleaned up her little bit of 💩 with ease. I am so glad and thankful to be able to turn to the knowledge of all the people who have been so great to offer the knowledge to others. You're a blessing to the community! 🐣☺
I know everyone says not to get chicks wet, but my vet says differently when it comes to pasty butt. A towel wont dissolve the poop very well and you can rip the skin. Also water in the towel cools way too fast and can chill the chick. I put the chicks butt under warm running water and just let it flow and the poop will dissolve in a few minutes with minimal feather loss. The water has to be warm so you can maintain the chicks body temp. Then you want to make sure you have a clean towel and a hair drier. Towel dry the chick and then blow dry on the low heat setting until the feathers are dry and puff back up. The chicks love the blow drier and usually fall asleep. The blow drier will keep the chick warm while you dry him. Dont get a chick wet unless you can get him under a blow drier immediately. After its dry, you need to check for infections. I always use a cream based antibacterial ointment like Neosporin. Dont use the petroleum based ointments because they sit on top of the skin and can get hot and cause burns under the heat lamp.
Thank you. Fixing my warm water now. Got 3 that need this. What a great help! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for explaining pooping but and how to fix!
I have a variety of new chicks, 14. One had poopy butt!
It probably would have died if I wouldn't have accidentally ran across this video.
Fixed it!
Thank you!
apply a soaked cotton ball into the area for a little bit until it soften. then proceed to massage it out. gently. if the skin is irritated, apply a VERY LIGHT coat of petroleum jelly (vasseline) once a day for a day or two. then let it heal. keep the brooder clean.
I also use chick grit in their feed. Basically it's crushed stone that is pretty small, sized for chicks. Sprinkle in their food like salt n pepper. Stone in the diet for birds with gizzards is important to consider, even chicks.
Thankyou sir!!,,,My chick was suffering form this problem,,but I haven't any idea,,what to do....from your video,,I learned this process and i applied it...now they are fine🥰
great!
Love your videos! I am a new chicken mom and watched you before I purchased my chicks!
Awesome! Thank you!
rescued a baby bird on streets, just noticed a big chunk stuck to it and this tutorial really helped alot thank you so much!
I had to clean my chick's butt a few days ago and it's case looked exactly like the severe chick. I didn't know what to do so I started soaking it's but with cold water then tried to remove the poo. I noticed when I pooled on it my chick was not reacting well so I ended up dabbing it more with water and started to remove the poo one by one. Anyway, my chick is fine now, but this video would have been helpful then. I am glad you're making education videos like this!! Thank you!!!
Some else here watching this because chicks are so cute? 🐥💛 I love them 💖🐥
good afternoon, good information to know because I know nothing about raising birds, still want to learn more. some day I'll have that country farm. have a good one.
Our fist chick hatched in the middle of the night. So happy to have found your channel! 🐣
I put their bottoms under warm running water and gently work it off. It also can happen when they don't set on their little roost... my chicks on the roost stay clean. It's the ones who sleep on the bedding that get poopy butt. 😎
I've never put a roost in a brooder for my chicks.....interesting theory
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer yes.. tiny roosts. They are cute on it.
Thx so much I just got baby chicks and their so cute one is a small guinea civic who has severe pasty butt and I didn’t know what to do but now I do! Thz
What a great video Josh! I'm looking to get chicks for the first time and I'm studying up on what to do and expect. This was very helpful. I had heard of pasty butt but didn't know what it looked like or how to take care of it. Thanks for a great tutorial. - All the best. ~ Theresa
Thanks for the education..one of my little chick just passed away because of that same issue..first time raise chicken..
Thanks for this advice!! You may have saved 2 of my Cuckoo Marans!!
Thankyou Stony Ridge Farms for the great video. I knew poopy but was an issue but your video gave me the confidence to hold my chicks bottom in 90 degree water and remove the "problem" twice (same chick I think). We are going to lick this problem and have healthy chicks.
it's normal...stress and different foods..movement...heat and cold...all this messes with the chicks gut a bit...it should pass and is very very common
I hold our chicks butts under very warm water and use a q-tip to loosen it up. First time having chicks!
I would recommend this method over holding there butts under water....this works great...and is low stress on the birds..the reason they have "poopy butt" in the first place is stress and a new diet
Bi
thank you very much. We just got our first chickens and I noticed this morning one has poopy butt. I'm going to do what you showed!
My baby chicks had this and I did and there are ok thanks 😊 he ok now he is a rooster
I used to have chick's and didn't know exactly how to take care of them we got rid of those ones we just got new chick's and I'm taking care of them and this video helped very much thank you
I have this issue with 2 of mine. Glad I found your video.
Glad to help!
Thank you for making this video! After almost 25 chickens we ran into this for the first time and didn’t know what to do.
I was trying to look up why baby chicks peck each other but I found “why baby chicks poop is stuck” and I found out that they get clogged with poop and it’s called pasty butt and I found this video it’s 1 am I have school tomorrow
Thank you so much. Got 10 healthy chicks from Meyer Hatchery but two got “poopy butt” and I had no idea how to take care of it. Now I do!
I recently started raising chickens, and had reason to become far too intimate with my first Barred Rock chicks (yes...the dreaded pasty butt). I used a Q-tip...running 105°F water...and worked it gently until it came off. Eventually they seemed to enjoy the warm water lol. They also seemed to enjoy the blow drying they got (set on low speed and low heat, and held 18" away at minimum) to dry them off.
Also! Thanks for all the videos! As a new chicken enthusiast (I REALLY like eggs, and REALLY like chicken lol) they've been beyond helpful!
It’s sweet that at first the bird in your hand was scared, but they quickly realized you weren’t hurting them and they relaxed.
Great video josh, some really good information here, next time we do chicks it’s going to be from Myer hatchery. As always really enjoy your farm vlog! Thanks for sharing
I watched a video where she put a tiny bit of vasaline on their bums to keep the poop from sticking to the down. Luckily all my birds were pasty butt free :) You're really sweet with your chicks.
petroleum jelly should not be used around young birds they can ingest it and cause serious problems with their organs and with their lungs my friend...always use a water based lubricant with birds
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I agree. I used olive oil.
I just started raising some backyard chickens. Recently just lost a chick because of that, and not knowing what to do. Wish i found this video sooner.
Thanks for the video, I just cleaned two 'poopy butts' today. Thank you.
My sister: hi, watcha watching?
Looks over my shoulder
😐😑😏
lol
Just got 10 baby chicks a few days ago. Our first chickens ever. One got poopy butt pretty bad in just one day. I knew nothing about it, but suspected it was trouble. Just cleaned it all up and one other that was just starting to get it. Thanks for sharing!
happy to help...stress does this most of the time...you're birds will probably be just fine
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I think they will be ok too. They're settling in and actually seem pretty happy and content in their new home. Thanks!
Thank you. I just got my first birds and i have a few that have this going on. I didnt know what to do. Thanks
Thanks for the demonstration of how to do this gently. It helped me know what to do.
Glad it was helpful!
I love watching your videos, I love how you handle the little babes with such gentleness! Im hoping to get a few baby chicks to raise as pets so I'm trying to gather as much info as I can before bringing them home n your videos are perfect and they are such a joy to watch!
Very helpful video. I didn't know what to do with this issue. Really appreciate that people out there who can show these things! Thank you 🙏
Well done. Thank you.
Glad to help...hope ya got it taken care of....sometimes simple little problem solver videos like this can be a huge help
