Stumbled upon this video and realized i may have been holding the sticks wrong (too loose) these past couple months. Is it natural for the stick to slide up to the second joint of the index finger when playing? I'm trying to keep it pressed within the first joint, but it always moves up eventually. Trying to retain that stick position while playing loosely seems tough to keep up!
There can be some leeway with where the stick sits comfortably in your hand (everyone is shaped differently), but ultimately if your stick is rolling up your index finger you might want to make sure your thumb is pressed straight on. The most important thing is that you're developing technique/muscle in the pocket of your thumb and pointer to strengthen the fulcrum.
