    Oooh My Goodness Gracious Me! Your tip about watering, keeping the plants in the drier side and see how they handle it, is THE tip I would have needed to hear when I tried house plants again. (I had failed many, many times prior to this.) 💮

    Love those wider leafy ferns, especially the Bird’s nest varieties. I haven’t had good luck with the tiny leafed (Boston) types, they give me entirely too much non-quality time with my broom (in other words, sweeping, not riding). 🧹 Thanks for another interesting “Fern Friday.”

    🌱🌴🌿🌾🌿Awwwwwwwesome! Fern. Aquanatic is very special, a new one to me. That reminded me to water my fern! I like that tip to use a bowl to catch the water and let it drink until it has absorbed as much ad it needs. That makes it easy!🌿

      It just helps me know the soil has fully saturated so they don't get underwatered.

      Also have you ever seen a crocodile fern? There was one on orchid adventures yesterday I fell in love.

    Have realized after 40+years in horticulture that interior-speaking, I subconsciously gravitate toward epiphytes; maybe it was that week in a canoe in the Okefenokee Swamp studying carnivorous plants... Staghorns are at the top of my list, but my house isn't ideal for any of them. I'm working on it...
    Can ferns be happy under supplemental grow lights? Watching your videos has me thinking of potential solutions re: temp & humidity as well. For resolving the big three, light would be easiest to fix.
    You are now my new "plant person"; I've been through a few and I've just discovered you, but I'm optimistic, lol. Can't wait to check out your exterior expertise!

    Lol! loved this video, but I don't have any ferns because they don't like the growing conditions that I have in my home, and I know they would not like the winters that I live in, So I will just admire them from the UA-camr's that grow them, actually the one fern that I have is a heart fern and that will be the only fern that I own, it is enough work for me, Thanks for an awesome video I did love watching it. See you in the next video, bye for now.

    Love 💕 your fern Friday!! During our storm yesterday a piece of bark came off my oak with these ferns growing from it. Not sure what to do.... suggestions? Cool ferns!

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  5 років тому

      To save the ferns? If they are still attached to the bark could put some white through them and hang them as mounted plants?

    I can see why that would be classed as Microsorum. Java Fern (M. pteropus) grows from fully aquatic to epiphytic (fully emersed) and the foliage is different between the terrestrial and aquatic environment. The terrestrial form foliage has quite a bit of similarity. Honestly, it looks identical to the plant that I used to know as 'Windelov' Java Fern or Lace Java Fern. What does the rhizome look like? Is it narrow and hairy like Java Fern?

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  5 років тому

      Extremely similar to the lace javas! I have had my regular grow up my drift wood and out of the water before and those looked really neat. Would like to see my Lace Javas do the same!

    • @TropicalPlantParty

      No, I decided it would be too difficult to keep it hydrated in the winter when it's indoors. It's done well though, had some light cold damage in the fall but has recoved nicely from it.
