Havent been to Albania yet, but Thailand, Europe and Albania looks like a good trifecta to try out. Bulgaria was my trifecta before, but sadly now thats gone to the EU (Romania too).
I was just in Albania a last month, it is a nice country , helpful people. Tirana easy place to visit or live I did a 7 country run also went to Lviv Ukraine I wanted to just be a tourist and help the economy in a tiny way. Lviv was wonderful, the people friendly and helpful so many spoke English. It's a walk around city, also a great electric trolley transportation. Lviv is in a very safe zone on the western side. I also like Serbia, Romanaia and Poland maybe because they had so many English speakers I could connect to. Your videos are great I enjoy them all.

Nice video Dan. It's rather interesting. I do love Europe and I have traveled for work to France, Germany, UK, Denmark, Sweden, and Spain. I liked my time there, but I realize that as I near retirement, I'm really looking to Southeast Asia for traveling and eventually retirement. I have taken a couple of recent trips to Japan and I realized that I love that part of the world (even though I don't speak Japanese). For me, I realized the reason why is related to the flow of life and more importantly how the asian countries deal with stress. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand that people born and raised in those countries need to deal with their own cultural forms of stress, but what I'm talking about is the comparison between the rat race here in the USA versus everywhere else in the world! I realized that the European Union for me has more stress than what I experienced in Tokyo Japan. Now when you think of Tokyo, you are talking about the most populous city in Japan and it might be considered the most stressful area for a western traveler to visit especially when they don't speak a lick of Japanese. The interesting thing is, I found Tokyo actually less stressful than my travels to Europe with a significantly cheaper cost of living in Japan. So that brings me to my ask. I would love to see your thoughts on a "stress comparison" scale for when you compare locations like you did in this video. I love your views and what you have shown us is possible in various locations around the world! Keep up the great work Dan!
@@VagabondAwake Thanks Dan, but I gotta give credit where it's due. You gave me the idea as I found your channel during the pandemic which was an extremely stressful time for many of us. Your calm demeanor and presentation skills without passing personal judgement allowed me to listen to your travels and live a bit more stress free even though I'm still working in the USA. I realized that I started using a stress scale when viewing people's travel vlogs and as I age (further) I realize that I want to go to those places that will force me to slow down to their pace of life. In the end, it's my belief that I'll be happier!!!

Excellent video, Dan! How about doing videos about Africa. I know it's a big continent, and some parts may not be safe or lacking adequate infrastructure, but perhaps start with North Africa?
@@VagabondAwake I am interested in the continent as a whole, but I understand that some of those countries may not be that attractive to your audience. But there are plenty that are. For instance, in North Africa, in addition to Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria might be tourist friendly places. I hear good things about Kenya, Ethipia and Eriteria are two neighboring countries that have very beautiful women. I don't know what the political situation is at this point though. There are also places in West Africa worth exploring as well. Non-Africans may be reluctant to travel to Africa, but it is a vast continet with welcoming people worth exploring, and is very budget friendly.

Although I was really saddened to hear you say that one can’t live abroad and survive on $1100 per month, I remain optimistic. According to this video, rent in both Tirana and Bangkok still seem doable.

@malcolm - if that's your budget, ($1100), you can try Cambodia (Siem Reap, Kampot) or Vietnam (Danang, Dalat, Nha Trang). The cities I've mentioned are 2nd tier cities or towns. If you live in Tier 1 cities, cost of living is higher. Btw you should also have an emergency fund in case of health or family emergencies.

Did you find getbybus app reliable to get around? I have seen different reviews about them. The app says printed tickets required. How did you get around this please? I will be there May and June. Is everything so busy and booked out at this time?
When tickets needed to be printed which was only once or twice, we went to the bus station early to get tickets printed. We have reports on these places now. Have you seen those at Vagabond Buddha?

I have a dilemma and I realize I'm in the minority. I don't have a pension I don't have social security coming in so I don't have any way to permanently live in Thailand even though I have a friend that's a lady that I've basically been dating for 4 years and visiting in Thailand they require a certain amount of money coming in most places do but to my knowledge Philippines doesn't require a monthly income and I'm pretty sure laos doesn't. I would like you or anyone on this comment section to correct me if I'm wrong but there's no monetary requirements in Philippines are allowed meaning I could stay in laos for August 6th months and travel to 3 hours to her in Thailand and she doesn't require a visa to go to allow from Thailand or I can live in the Philippines without any money requirements and not get a certain visa and just keep extending for 3 years if I had the money for that time. And leave for one day and start over and keep doing it over and over and being close to her. It's just a dilemma for people that don't have a lot of money or don't have a certain income coming in but love visiting those countries. Even the expats that live in those countries are derogatory towards visiting that don't have the money for the big expensive visas. It's pretty sad actually even in the Philippines being that you can just keep extending for 3 years leave for a day come back expats that pay the big money for the certain visas look down upon the Americans that come there and don't have the money to pay for those visas and it's pretty sad because it insinuates you have to have a certain amount of money to enjoy this world
@@andrewbrann6231 you can also try Cambodia (Siem Reap or Kampot). A 1-year visa costs about 300 usd (using an agency). I don't know where your GF lives in Thailand but there are buses which travel from TH to Cambodia. I also don't know if Laos will be more convenient for you/ her. Vietnam doesn't have a retirement visa but you can stay there for 3 months on a tourist visa. Then you'll have to go on a visa run (or use an agency) to get another 3 months.
Perhaps consider Cambodia. Once you’ve done the research, you’ll discover how affordable and of great ease one can move effortlessly in Siem Reap. Cheers.

I am very aware of the air quality and monitor it every day wherever I'm at , as I have COPD. But it is now entering the dry and burning season, so I'm outa there...

Vietnam doesn't have a retirement visa but you can stay there for 3 months on a tourist visa. Then you'll have to go on a visa run (or use an agency) to get another 3 months.

Quiet kids? Hmmm. Not sure I know the answer to that. Have you tried ear muffs? That is what I used to do when kids were around me when it was time to study.

Modern breeders teach their babies and kids to disrespect their neighbors quiet enjoyment of life. Parents back before 1980 taught their kids to respect their neighbors quiet enjoyment of life. Parents who allow their kids to be noisy should be fined $500,000 or 10 percent of their entire wealth for ruining their neighbors quiet enjoyment of life. @@drifter8800 Ya, I saw that the air improved greatly after I left. There were about 4 days in a row that the pm 2.5 was in the unhealthful range ... I am very aware of the air quality and monitor it every day wherever I'm at , as I have COPD. But it is now entering the dry and burning season, so I'm outa there...
I just recommend checking the air quality online if that is an important issue for you. Just Google "Air Quality in City Name." They have live monitors around the world.

There is no comparison between those two countries....I'm Bulgarian and know very well Albania... Albania implemented the first road sign in 2003. In the 80s, only horses and donkeys . It's like comparing Bentley with Nissan Micra😅
Albania had a much more oppressive regime than Bulgaria had during the Socialist era. It's amazing just how Albania is now progressing.
@@theself-helpconnection3731 Bulgaria looks like a gypsy country, I don't know how they got you into the EU. Before the 90s Albania was like North Korea and very poor, but the pace of development after the 90s surpasses any ex-communist country. Albania was simply too far behind.
We loved both and they are different. So we share who might like each.
