Love this song! I know, *"Mr. Blue Sky",* is widely revered as not just ELO's happiest song, but the happiest song any band has ever made. Yes, it actually won such a poll a few years back. And I agree! But I will say that, *"The Diary of Horace Wimp",* is ELO's most _charming_ song. Thanks for the reaction!
I just now noticed that the cords and orchestration at the very end were also used on "Hello My Old Friend" from the Secret Messages" album! P.S. Thanks for doing ELO deep dives😊
@Andy Listens ... Thanks! Hey, you might enjoy "Hello My Old Friend". It's another "Beatle esque" tune about the nostalgia Jeff feels about visiting Birmingham later in his career. It's got a lot of creative instrumentation.
Hi Andy!!! Great hits from this album "Discovery" are Don't bring me down, Shine a Little Love, Last Train to London and Confusion. My favorite by far is Last Train to London, but I love all the songs from this album, and the chorus from Shine a little love is so much fun. Best regards from Chile!! 🙂
Last train to London next Andy, same album, Song has a (very- disco) feel, (Disco-very)? See what Jeff did? His eureka moment!! 1979:the height of disco, bee gees, Saturday night fever, the group jumped on the disco band wagon while it lasted and produced an excellent album. You’ll enjoy it 👍👍👍🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻
To be clear, that is the only Disco song on the album. And Jeff didn't name the album, "Discovery", as double entendre. The "disco-very" nickname for the LP was just something that ELO keyboardist, Richard Tandy, said of the album, expressing his disappointment that the ELO sound was softening up. I suppose there's one other song on it that could possibly fit under the Disco genre, but personally, I don't think so. I'm referring to, "Shine A Little Love". Yes, it's a great dance song. But just because a song is a great dance song, does not mean it's Disco. All the rest of the songs on the album are pure rockers ("Don't Bring Me Down") or ballads ("Need Her Love", "Midnight Blue", "Wishing") or pop songs (The Diary of Horace Wimp", "Confusion", "On The Run").
'Mr Blue Sky' seems happy alright, but as I follow these lyrics, it ain't so happy for Horus. Am I wrong? Through the days of the week, one voice or another "from above" badgers our wimpy friend, "Horace Wimp, this is your life. Go out and find yourself a wife..." But when Sunday comes around and he's good and married, the voice says, "Horace Wimp, this is your WIFE. Go out and find yourself a LIFE"(!) And the chorus nags, "Horace! Horace! Horace!" on and on at length. Maybe I'm projecting my own darkness, but I think the songwriter was brilliantly wry in his humor. It seems to me that it's unending wimpdom for poor Horus as the story closes, "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Horace Wimp, Monday, Tuesday, Horace Wimp, Wednesday, Thursday, Horace Wimp, Friday, Sunday... Horace Wimp! Horace Wimp! Horace Wimp! 😮
Hey! You might like checking out ELO's "Roll Over Beethoven", from way back in 1973. It was about the ONLY song that Jeff Lynne didn't write for ELO ( It was originally written/performed by Chuck Berry way, way back in 1956.). Think it is from their "ELO II" album. Lots of 70s rock & roll sound, and lots of classical orchestra sound! It is kinda long, though. We like your reviews!
Nice reaction Andy but I must admit despite it being a successful single in 79 it’s not one of my favourites, well produced but a little twee for me and never part of Jeff’s live set which I’m happy about.
My favorite ELO song. Brings back so many memories for me. They were the business. 😅
They are good. I like their sound👍🎶

Quirky and not the sort of song you expect from elo but I love it thanks for review ❤
Jeff Lynne has said there is no Saturday day in there because Saturday is for Futbol...
👍⚽✌️🎶
Discovery is my favourite of ELO's Alburm.
I might have to do a track by track reaction soon👍
Thanks Andy definitely a Beatles vibe. Bit trippy at the end
It's was a bit. Still cool though✌️
@@Andy_Tunereviews84 Andy, she meant "trippy" in a good way, a Beatles-esque trippy way.
This is a trippy tune very Beatle like 🎉❤ in sync with the times,at the end a bit of the who came through think it's Boris the spider...❤
The end but was very trippy/eery👍
@@Andy_Tunereviews84 💯👊 your smashing it..👌😎
Love ELO and this song you might try Tightrope and another of my favorite bands is the Alan Parsons project try old and wise and time
Thanks Flash👍. I'll add them to my list✌️

Thanks John👍. I don't mind a bit of Disco music🎶

That's a good way of looking at it PJ👍

Thanks. I'll get aground to checking it out soon. ✌️
Great song.
You didn't pick up on that there was no Saturday, it's because Saturdays are reserved for football.
Thanks👍. I didn't notice that✌️🎶

Thanks Phil👍.
People give the Beatles a little too much credit when it comes to ELO, the Beatles ain't ELO, not even close.
Sounds like McCartney wrote this song and Lennon is singing. I don't like it at all. My first time hearing it too.
Hi Christine👍. Thanks for checking out new music with me. Much appreciated✌️🎶
