No one will ever mistake ELO for another band. So distinctive and unique.
They definitely have their own sound David✌️
ELO has produced a lot of great songs, this one is my absolute favorite. As a writer, composer, arranger, musician and singer Jeff Lynne ranks among the best ever in rock music.

This song reminds me of my school days. My best friend was Miller Anderson who's dad played with Marc boleyn. He was a very accomplished musician.

ELO did "strip down" towards the end of the original heyday. But this album has strings/orchestra and a choir. The next album, 1979's "Discovery" contained the first ELO song without strings - "Don't Bring me Down". The orchestra was conducted by the late, great, Louis Clark - of "Hooked On Classics" fame and many other movie and TV themes.

A great listen would be Concerto For A Rainy Day, which is four tracks making up the entire vinyl Side Three of Out Of The Blue (and best heard all together as a whole).
But to go even deeper on this classic 1977 album, is to get into Side Four. “Sweet Is The Night” could have been a single, and “The Whale” is a great instrumental track that’s also a very early example of Electronica. 🙂

@@Andy_Tunereviews84 Cool. Oh, and by the way, you were correct in identifying the homage Jeff was paying to The Beatles in the ending of, "Turn To Stone", in mimicking the end of, "A Day In The Life". (The end, or the end of the first part before Paul's section begins. They are the same.)

Definitely give a go on ELO's Face the Music album, the songs on the album like Fire on High and Poker (underrated track) are great.

Jeff Lynne (who was born in my home town of Birmingham, UK) was a musical genius and sounded just as good live (if not better) than he did on the studio versions. He was also part of the super group 'Travelling Wilburys' which comprised himself, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.
I only know 2 of their tracks. Handle With Care and End Of The Line. Have you got any suggestions?👍✌️

It's funny you mentioned Motorhead as I was watching Lemmy interviews the other day 👍. I know some Clash so wouldn't mind checking more of their stuff out and I've definitely heard of Roxy Music, may even know a few songs but couldn't tell you of the top my head✌️🎶
