      @@GPSjammer I agree 100%. He is largely forgotten these days, and for good reason. Child has been gone for nearly 20 years. Now, her kitchen is one of the most popular exhibits at the Smithsonian, there have been movies and TV shows about her, her books are still the gold standards to learn French Cooking, her picture and biography can be found in both La Couronne restaurant in the city of Rouen in France where she fell in love with French food and at E. Dehillerin cooking store in Paris where she used to shop. Emeril now sells cheap processed pasta sauce and appears on infomercials to sell air fryers.

      Also, if you haven't checked out that final book Emeril mentioned, definitely give it a look. Julia's Kitchen Wisdom is a /solid/ compendium of how to cook, rather than what to cook.

      Emeril did not train with Julia Child. He appeared on her Master Chef show on PBS in the early 1990s before he was famous. He was one of many chefs to be inspired by her work, however, and wrote of his admiration of her in the 40th anniversary edition of Mastering the Art of French Cooking that was released back in 2001 while she was still living and he was still relevant.

    I am so touched by the kindness, respect, and care he showed her on this program. He has such a gentlemanly manor and didn't make her stress or strain over anything. Didn't call her out or try to upstage her. Completely classy. I loved this.

    • @baritonebynight
      @baritonebynight 2 роки тому +14

      He couldn't upstage her.....she's Julia Child for God's sake! She made an off the record comment once "Serious cooks don't like him (Emeril)....he's more for people like my garage attendant." Emeril live wasn't a teaching show. It was the beginning of Food Network's shift from education to entertainment. He had his catch phrases and his live band.... but never gave proportions or explained the technique while the studio audience went wild and clapped like trained seals. Julia Child's shows demonstrate how to cook and she didn't need a band. Nearly twenty years after her passing, she is still as relevant as ever. She has been portrayed by Dan Aykroyd, Jean Stapleton, and Meryl Streep. Her Cambridge kitchen is one of the most popular exhibits in the Smithsonian. Her books are still the gold standards on learning how to cook. Emeril? He had a following in the mid to late 1990s...but in the end was unremarkable. Now he sells air fryers.

    God how I miss her. She was the best of them all. Nothing tastes as good as her roast chicken. To spend a day in her cooking classes made me appreciate real cooking. RIP Julia.

    I'm 51 and I've loved Julia for many years. But Emeril you were my biggest inspiration for wanting to learn how to cook since I first seen you on TV several decades ago. Most memorable show was a special appearance over seas when you went to cook for the troops over Holiday time. I'll NEVER forget that 10 foot long huge sifter you came out with too sift the powder sugar over something which I can't remember now but my God you had me laughing in stitches so hard. I loved it and so did our troops over seas!!!! I love ya man, you're a WONDERFUL human being brother!!!

    Emeril is a great chef but you couldn't beat cooking with a true legend of French and American homestyle cooking than Julia Child! I learned many great recipes through my father and 2 grandmothers' but basic kitchen lessons came from listening to what Julia said, she always kept it so simplistic!

    Lovely, lovely lady who for a woman stood at a regal and statuesque 6'2" tall.
    My grandmother here in Wales was a great fan of Julia's and so am I.
