    A surprise for me is that some of these "endgame" iems eg 64 Audio U12t or headphones eg Hifiman Susvara are quite a few years old now but have not really been surpassed for many in their audio quality with a suitable dac/amp source. Is reverse engineering a thing of the past now? Nice review. Thanks.

      The technical performance of the lcd 5, susvara, STAX X9000, and WA Bravura is approaching the limit of what a headphone driver is capable of. Their distortion characteristics are effectively below human threshold. Even a focal utopia has 10x the SNR of them.

      And the hd600 has been around over 20 years. I think you're looking at this totally the wrong way. Stop expecting the best to get better and start expecting the best to get cheaper.
      We're already at the peak, now make it affordable. IEMs can't invent details that aren't in the track

    I think the U12t is something that's easier to appreciate once you've been through the earlier stages of the iem path. You like iems, as you say for their party trick but then you get to a point where you just want it all or most of it in a single iem and this is where the U12t comes in, amazing iem.

    • @GoldenSound
      @GoldenSound Рік тому +10

      Yep my thoughts as well. There's a lot of products (not just IEMs) that immediately stand out in certain ways. And whilst many of them are still ones you will love and enjoy much later down the line (I still really want a pair of Symphonium Helios for example, they might have a party trick but damn it's a good one), many of them I find that impressiveness fades over time.
      Whereas the stuff that for me has had the most longevity has been the stuff that isn't trying to impress in a particular area. They're just doing a lot of stuff well.

      I couldn’t agree more. It’s all about your frame of reference. You can hand someone who’s not really into audio reproduction a u12t and you’ll get a resounding “meh”, because they sound real. Just like every non audio sound you hear all day long. Hence why so many, especially cheaper IEMs, go for V shaped tunings and other tricks to make it sound like augmented reality. You aren’t going to fully appreciate them unless you’re actually properly into IEMs/home/car etc. audio. It’s really, really hard to make something that doesn’t add much color and reproduces everything properly. You won’t appreciate that when you hear it unless you have the proper frame of reference.

There’s no way you’re not experiencing massive diminishing returns with this IEM. What could possibly be added to an IEM that raises the price from say, $250 to these $2300 IEMs. $250 is gonna give you solid sound quality. Why would I spend such an extreme amount of money on IEMs?

    It's personal preference. For me, reference headphones or IEMs are good but just boring. I demoed both U12t and U18t during CanJam and tried to understand whey U12t was so highly regarded. Unforunately, I failed to find them attractive, especially after I demoed other IEMs with special sauce, such as Odyssey, Mentor, Mason FS, EVO, XE6, among others.

    • @michaelp.3485
      @michaelp.3485 Рік тому +1

      U12t is so highly regarded because they appeal to people like me who want music untainted by an IEMs particular "flavor," and just want music presented as closely as intended by the artist as possible while still adding a bit of bass emphasis for fun without having any particular frequency range obnoxiously boosted to get that "wow" factor. And they do it while sounding remarkably refined and without a hint of harshness in the treble, which I am particularly sensitive to.

  • @ballswan
    @ballswan Рік тому +10

    Surgical, transparent, intensely detailed, sometimes fatiguing. With the wrong recordings, they feel like they are adding an artificial layer of sparkle that can often be distracting and not musical or comfortable. But when paired with the right recordings, they run circles around my other IEMs. The sound is sometimes unbelievable, my jaw literally drops. Massive, immersive, crystal clear. Undeniable. And I remember why they cost so much.
    Not ideal when you want to play something chill in the background while working, but for times when you want to focus on the music and you want to be sure you are getting absolutely everything out of your tracks, there is not much competition.

      @@ResolveReviews it’s like going from Clear to Utopia in techs, but also taking on some of the esoteric tuning quirks. The Mentor really matches my HRTF, came in blind at Canjam and walked out having to get one. Lacks a bit of sub 60Hz foundation though, nothing is perfect

    So hear me out. My issue with these is not how much they cost or anything to do with the sound. It's the logo plastered on the sides.
    I'm paying $2000 for this product. I don't need the logo there to remind me what the brand is.
    It's a weird nit pick but it's something that makes it feel cheap, in my eyes. And this issue isn't exclusive to this IEM in particular. It applies to basically everything.

      Yeah i feel 64 audio products don't look expensive, compared to other brands.
