Ok, after much testing, destroying many Idris's. A group of us were able to find out how this work. You will first need a "green" size 7 turret. This is a very random chance so expect to destroy a few Idris's. Next make sure your Ares Ion is the default paint. If you have a custom paint installed the Ion gun will come off in pieces and the barrel will be stuck to the ship. We did need a Vulture to remove the cannons. If you dont see the mounting circles then this will not work and you will need to redo a prior step.
Really interesting video. Even though English might not be your first language you had really clear commenting and good subtitles too :) earned urself a sub
By switching weapon, we gain back the missing "fixed aim-assist" which was removed from the SF7E to balance it against other fighters. And this is probably the reason why one feel like having more DPS as one would hit more often with "fixed aim-assist" enable. On pure stats only, the SF7E offer more overall DPS, but with less alpha damage per hit (still quite heaving for such a rapid firing auto-canon)
It's been a few days, so not sure if this hasn't been shadow patched but me and some buddies tried this with our Ions and cannot seem to replace it. Vulture just rips the Ion's cannon in half and can't seem to find any non-broken M9As. As an edit we just found out, you can't have paint on your Ion or else you won't be able to take the Ion's stock cannon off.
No it isnt. For the same money any of the vanguards is prob a better choice over the ion. Seriously the Ion got no reason to exist rn apart from the looks.
Interesting video! I've looked both weapons up on erkul and the logical differences are in alpha damage and fire rate. BUT: the SF7E only emits 17k heat while the M9A emits 100k. So in order to make that thing work better, you'd probably need better coolers than the stock Ion has.
@@supersheets12From my experience, switching coolers is fairly noticeable on ship systems like engines cuz they can actually overheat if you don't have strong enough coolers. Not sure on weapons, but it would make sense if the same phenomenon applies here.
very very sadge the place ion and inferno are in atm :( i actualy just melted my ion at the IAE because of that.. the ion realy needs a ton more of alpha dmg, its supposed to be capital killer but needs an hour to melt the shields of an idris :( i hope it will get its place cuz then i def get myself one again
yup, classic CIG... they made the game, we make it fun...FOR US,...they NERF TF outta it (but it thought that those weapons were bespoke? (non-removable)
has it's own ups and downs. the m9 has higher alpha damage, 3000 vs 2100 of the stock cannon, but the stock cannon has double the fire rate, also, the m9 has 6 times more heat emission than the stock one, and a slower regeneration rate. Data also shows that they have the same accuracy characteristics. I found all this data on Erkul. Either way, faster fire rate + double the amount of projectiles ready to fire means that the author would have had a much better chance to destroy that SRV, as there have been moments when he was hanging around him for quite a bit
Since there is no M9A data on the DPSCalculator, we only have a roughly estimate value. M9A has an alpha damage of 2900~3100(acquire by hitting two s2 shields and see how much percent they lose) and a 1~1.2 rate of fire. The burst DPS should be around 2900~3720.
Because it cost 3 M to try the two, and after that i prefer the inferno one. So to transform you need to find an ares inferno , shut down shield, then alt+k , and use tracter beam or the vulture to do it ?
The reason Ion sucks is because they always have to keep dps low enough that light fighters can't be killed by lucky shots. That's the whole, entire reason, to protect people from having their feelings hurt because they died immediately to a lucky shot. That's why they're increasing TTK on foot too, to the point where having a bullet tearing through your skull and squishing your brain into a grey smoothie will somehow not be fatal because "dying isn't fun'. And "people won't play if they die easily". Of course that means that they can't hurt capital ships much, even though they were sold as capship killers. CIGs solution is to give light fighters similar HP to capships, but give capships magic "armor" that bigger guns can penetrate better. That way giant cannons will be needed to kill capships quickly but those giant cannons will still not do fatal damage to light fighters because "it's only for penetrating capship armor".
ion is terrible and this change while funny is bad, because you go from 3850 burst dps down to only 2500 burst dps. ion needs a huge buff to DPS, it should be doing 6k. so should the M9A for that matter.
TTK is comically high. It's a real bad look for the game when it takes this long for a S9 weapon to kill anything. As an Ion/Scythe pilot the game in its current TTK state is nearly unplayable and frustrating.
wait until master modes come in and he cant go higher than scm speeds while he trying to qd away, plus he will have no shields so it will be easy pickings
A waste of time, SF7E is still better than the M9A, even if the SF7E has less alpha dmg than the M9A. The Burst DPS and fire rate is more important then alpha dmg

Good stuff. The srv volunteer testing stuff was very funny.
great vid. that pvp section sums up my player bounty hunting experience pretty well

I didn't even know you could do that with the tractor beams OR that you could install weapons by just dragging them onto the ship, lol.
Yeah they added it earlier this year and it's awesome. Missiles can be reloaded too!
All you need to do is unlock your ship ports to do so.
Haha nice :D impressive that you've managed to replace the original laser cannon on that Ion!
"We got a lot of suspects that flying SRV" lol , good video

Awesome video man! Concise and thorough!
Your sound edits made me laugh. Good job
A great PVE ship and a good escort if you are in an org or helping friends.

Hey mate, thanks a lot for the video!
My new favourite SC youtuber, keep it up man. good content.
players, ...making the ion great again!!!

I thought cooling doesnt work currently? A great point for the future but I was told this system is not yet implemented.

This is what the ion should have been like all along. A real power sniper
Did they patch this? The gun is always broken.
I really just wish we had a ballistic cannon option.
This is what the gun should be, like the original. Slow and hard hitting.
I miss the old ion so much 😔
Tried this today and couldn't get it to work. No matter what, the new gun would not attach. Any tips or gotchas ?
厉害😂

Seems like that got fixed, we can't remove the weapons off the Ares anymore
Can the maxlift tractor rifle beam do what the vulture did...
Can you attach INFERNO Gattling?
now can we pull the size 5 from the tonk
Amazing
Just hear about this and I think it's exhilarating but now I fear they might patch it out soon.

Thanks dude
Wait does that mean you can fit any s7 cannon on it?
Theoretical, yes
Can you point out what a broken and working gun look like visually? It wasn't clear in your video. The only clip of a working gun was in third person.
The broken one's name is red and has no health bar, the workable one has green or yellow words and has a health bar.
If you soft death your ship after you get the gun on it, can you share it to your org
Yes, so you don't have to search the idris again.
Wanna soft death your ship for me?
@@oiew-13would you be able to share it with me?
I just wish they sold Size 7 guns.
Does this still work
Sadly, No
This "feature" has been fixed in the 3.22.0 update.
what dps does m9a have?
Since there is no M9A data on the DPSCalculator, we only have a roughly estimate value.

It's on the DPS calculator, 3000 alpha dmg and 2500DPS, 35% less than bespoke gun@@oiew-13
The real question is, can an Ion become an Inferno?
yes
And what is the benefit of all this? it's like using inferno with ion skin just it 😅
Not having to buy both is what I would call a benefit @@SICARiO_H88

Good for solo pve. 💩 for pvp solo.

why are you shooting so slowly, it can shot like twice as fast.
Probably trying to line up his shots to actually hit the target lol

Don't think it's worth doing tbh. The original ion cannon seems better.
😂 ion still suck..
cant even do shit against SRV lmao
