I just played one of those earlier "Class of 1981" Galaga/Ms. Pac-Man cabinets today at Canobie Lake--working fine, but next to it there was an original Galaga that had some interesting malfunction that turned all the sprites into solid-colored squares.
I just had one that I filmed a video of doing something very similar, there's a custom chip on the pcb that will make it do that...
I also went to Canobie Lake and they haven’t yet fixed it. They said that they don’t know how and have started calling it “Cubealaga”.
I remember this one… I played it and thought it was weird that it was just a square
On the Ms. Pac-Man instructions to the left side of the screen, they mixed up the point values for the orange and pretzel. The orange is worth 500 and the pretzel is worth 700.

Sounds are accurate, the volume is turned up too much and the speaker is distorting the music.

I totally agree. Volume too high (most likely) or maybe a loose speaker (least likely). I don't think the Pac's had as much Bass as Galaga.

Our theater in town has a mini arcade and the best one they have is the class of 81 with Galaga and Ms. Pacman. I always play it at the theater. When the theater opens up I will try and play the secret game of pacman! Galaga rules! I never played the one your reviewing.

Love this channel! It's kind of sad that arcade cabs are a bygone era. I turned 10 in Sept of 1980, so I was just the age for the amazing time of arcade madness. It really was a special time to be a kid. Video games were everywhere- pizza places, convenience stores, Dr. offices and obviously in the arcade at the mall. The advancement in games today is incredible, but to me, somehow they just don't hold a candle to the classics. The sheer inventiveness of all those games that came plowing out to the market in that short span of time is insane. It went from Pong to everything one could want in a span of a few years. It was a pop cultural milestone, like Star Wars was/is. I've always wanted some cabs of my own, but never manages to get the real deal. However, thanks to the day and age we live in, I'm able to have about three dozen games in my home with the three Arcade 1Up cabs I have. Class of 1981, Namco 40th Pac Man and a Tempest cab- all modded with legit joysticks, buttons and trackballs. Not the real deal, but damn close and it satiates my need to play these awesome games from an awesome time. I hope one day I will have Donkey Kong and DK Jr. at home, such insanely fun games to me! I have never ever seen this cab before.... But I just Pre-Ordered the 40th Anniversary for Ms.Pac-Man/Galaga from Arcade 1up through Best Buy.
That's the one I saw and played a few years ago in a steakhouse that didn't last long, only a few months. Was not very good.
With all the food places we have in a 1 mile strip, a lot of places have come and gone.
But we have never had a fish fry place and I realized that the only place that has fish fry places is the Albany Saratoga area of Upstate New York.
Some places have a filet of fish knock off, but the real strip of haddock deep fried on a hot dog roll I have only ever seen in that specific area
I can only guess it happened because most people were Catholic and you couldn't eat meat 2 days a week.
During Lent the lines around the fish fry places stretched the whole block every day.
They are really great and if you ever get to the Albany NY area, you really owe it to yourself to get a fish fry and homemade onion rings. And the scallop roll and clam rolls are awesome too.

I know that this video is six years, but there is a way to play the original Pac-Man on the 20th Anniversary cabinet. First trip a credit. Then before you select a game, press the joystick UP 3 times, DOWN 3 times, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT. You will then hear a bell letting you know that the code has been entered correctly. Press the MS.Pac-Man start button and voila you are now playing Pac-Man. On a different note, playing with the dip switches in the ROM for MAME, I saw a note encouraging the owners of the cabinet to purchase the upgraded board that has Pac-Man available from the get-go.
I forgot about a trick on Galaga that is very hard to pull off. On the first stage, let all of the ships come into formation without shooting any of them. Now shoot all of them except for the two on the far left side. They are two small ships that are one on top of the other. Now, here is where it gets extremely tricky. What you have to do is avoid these two ships for about fifteen minutes, literally. Then those two ships will stop shooting at you. When this happens, then all of the ships from that point forward will NOT shoot at you.
If you pay close attention at the ghosts you can actually see patterns.

Back in the day a lot of people could play it quite awhile, and it really screwed things up for the operator, because you could put 1 quarter in and play for an hour until it got REALLY tough... but that meant the game was only making a quarter that whole hour! So they released the 'speed up chip'... which was really just a gimmick to get people to get to the harder levels faster, and DIE faster... so they'd make more quarters, lol!

Nice idea but it's a pity about the sound - surely it isn't THAT hard for them to recreate accurate sounds. It could be distortion with the speaker though?
Yes there may have been a speaker problem or something, I'd have to play another one to make sure I can't remember the details....

Hello! I know this video is kinda old, but i ask anyway. Is there a way to disable the stupid Continue option on this arcade machine? One have recently been installed near where i live, but anyone can just play long enough to get High Score on any games (and it's freeplay so...) Thank you a lot! EDIT : Oups it seems that you said it's possible to disable it in TEST MENU
Yes if you go in the test menu you can disable it. I never thought about why you would want to disable it although I have had people ask me about that before.... but now that you mention it I can see why you would want to, good point.
@@LyonsArcade Thank you for your very fast reply. Indeed, there is no point on playing such games but for High scores right? They could at least have make the score go to 0 if you use a continue, but no... the score juste keep on rising like you never died..

If anyone wants to try the hidden pacman on the 40th reunion cab you just go to the menu coin it up then use the joystick and move it up up up down down down left right left right left you will hear a noise like getting a bonus life in pacman and the ghost will change color now click on pacman to go to the game and instead of ms pacman it will be pacman

All I can suggest is what we sold it for at our retail store, which would be around $1500 in nice condition and having the monitor freshly rebuilt.

If you like Pac-Man, try RandomPac. It has been made as faithful as possible to the original arcade version except that the mazes are created randomly (they are different every time) and it contains bonus levels. Download it from lowcarb.itch.io/

That joystick sticks out very high... it looks awkward... the cabinet was nice though, just wish both sides were the same instead of one being awesome 25th anniversary art while the other side is simply just galaga

This one is no different then the Ms Pac-Man Galaga you get the same 3 games the Ms Pac-Man galaga looks a lot better this one wasn’t worth buying if you already owned the Ms Pac-Man galaga
