Todays video is a 2016 Chevy Trax with a turbocharged motor that has a misfire on cylinder 3 and the customer brought it to my shop from 2.5 hrs away after they replaced spark plugs and a coil pack and charged her $800.00 to tell her she needs a new engine for 10,000 dollars.
The parts cannon is my favorite automotive saying now
AND it seems to be many ahem "mechanics" go to repair these days
pitiful
How can they charge her $800 for something that doesn't work? Could it be that they couldn't fix it because they don't know what they're doing? Disgraceful.
That's exactly the problem with some of these "mechanics " who just don't know what they've doing!
Please put a lid on the music and keep in mind that not everyone has the same taste/preferences. On my computer I had to jump between roughly 1/5 (music) and 3-4/5 (talk) volume.
Doing timelapse is welcome (but missing timing cover and head removal).
Relative compression test by ear is a good starting point, no special tools required :-) Seems like the other shop wasn't skilled (or did not care) at all when they knew about misfire and missed such an obvious sound. Those valves looked well done and good decoration pieces.
Funny your video popped up 😆...
I had a 2020 Chevy trax, low power and cylinder misfire on number 1 and under boost code and low smoking out the back
Pass compression test and leakdown test, i replace the plugs because they were bad blatantly! Scope the coil and good flowforms! Swap injectors and no change. No timing issues, cam variances was near zero!
Pulled my borescope camera and saw the hot side wheel broke and fell, was sitting on catalytic converter 😆. The misfire i question was probably cause by exhaust scavenging and damage a valve seat, i assume! Strange circumstance.
Thing is I'm a independent guy and her car was still covered under warranty, she needed a diagnoses asap. Still had to go to the dealership!
Sometimes there is no choice but to go to the dealership. Sounds like you did what you could though!
@@hrdiesel she still was in warranty... no point of me fixing anything
youve just won your 495th sub man, like the content and hope your channel grows man
Thanks! I sure do appreciate it!!
If you imagine us watching the video, and why, can you imagine what the free nightclub music does?
Takes you to a better place??
Very problematic engine have a 17 encore which is the same thing i just put a motor in at 117k stealership wanted 15k just for a reman long block
That’s a lot of money for an engine that size!
The compression was 50psi on mine.
Unfortunately that is fairly low and will cause a misfire issue
I’m here bc I have a misfire on a 2009 Subaru forester. I changed the plug, coil, and wires. Sure hope it’s not a head gasket…
Your local mechanics have lots of experience replacing Subaru head gaskets.
I'm having the same issue.
Hopefully, it’s an easy fix!
GM prefers to replace everything because of how problematic this engine is. At least that's my understanding of this powertrain.
It is definitely not a very reliable engine for sure. The problem that I had with the dealership is they threw parts at it and then told her it needed an engine after they charged her for parts that didn’t fix it. I know what you’re saying though
Definitely deceptive on their part for sure.@@hrdiesel
It is becasue they cant hire any competent people for 11 dollars an hour
competent mechanics deserve much more
Those coils are only 75 bucks I thought?
I didn’t check into it but wouldn’t be surprised. Customer said the parts weren’t that much just had quite a bit of labor tacked on
