This yt channel is better than most tech classroom experiences.
Thanks, NF, for producing great content!
You've become part of my morning routine. I watch your video before I go to work. I like how happy you get when the board is fixed.
Next T-shirt will be printed “consider it’s fixed” I love your channel brother. Truly learned a ton of knowledge and god bless you and your family for your time making value for us.
Try resetting the bios as others have said. This can sometimes be done by removing the cmos battery and shorting the 2 terminals. I've had it work countless times. Same symptoms, looks alive but no action on the screen. I learnt that trick on another channel, electronics repair school and I am shocked how often it works when the laptop appears dead.
Agreed Mark but his issue is a little different. Its not staying ON. I've had bad ram do everything from blue screens of death after 5 to 10 minutes to immediate power off like he is experiencing. Not saying this is the culprit but helps to rule it out. Bios reset is always a good idea too. Ive also seen gaming units that have been devoid of power require 3 restarts on its own to initialize the bios and pch etc before anything appears on the screen. Patience and Persistence wins the Battle ;)
I agree. More than likely corrupt bios.
I av two laptops that d fan will countinue spinning after I shutdown...I flash the bios but the problem still persist...any suggestions on this
I agree a frozen bios could be the issue
if that doesn't work, next attempt turn it on with the termal camera.
Had the same issue with my Asus GL753VE. I tried to reheat my Gpu and it worked hehe
I'm looking forward on part 2
Same issue with an old Laptop that I had which was the GPU which cause this problem.
Nice. Reflow maybe last 3months. Next time reballing for long term
This is a tricky one and my suggestion is that after replacing the MOSFETs give it another try with heatsinks and fan on, because sometimes laptops show the same behaviour when heatsinks are not there.
Another nice video, Alex!
I think the problem why the laptop shuts down immediately as soon as the fan start is because of the BIOS problem.
I want to suggest a few things that can be done to resolve that such a problem:
1. Try to do the hard reset by unplugging the battery and then press the power button for about 30 secs (Btw, I think unplugging the battery isn't necessary because it has a built-in battery). Last, plug the AC adapter and press once the power button.
2. If it doesn't work, please reflash the BIOS, and maybe you can try to check the CMOS battery too (But, I'm not sure if the CMOS battery is the cause of that problem).
I got a 3D printer and it started having issues. Tech asked me to open it up and check some things inside... and... wow... when did components get so tiny!? It's one thing to see a dime for scale but it really sunk in when I saw it with my own eyes. Good work not losing and crushing every component, I am amazed.
Damn thats really a tricky one. I hope you can fix it and make a second part to tell us what the problem was. Good luck
It's like watching 2 part CSI. The cliffhanger!
minus all the traumatic mind programming propagandas
Excellent learning 👍 thank you! Wondering how much current at 1V you supply from the voltage injection tool ?
let’s hope for the best but get ready for the worts
@@iot_enthusiast Think he said 4.x amps. so 4 to 5 watts.
That's the reason for being named BIG BOSS. Five minute and reassembly is done.
Great video and looking forward for next episode. There were several people suggesting to clear the CMOS so who knows this might be root cause of problem.
yes, ASUS is well known to get bad bios configuration, load default configuration or even clear CMOS sometimes can fix the problem
That's almost certainly the processor... it happens very rarely but happens, you can try to reprogramming the Bios chip but don't have too much hope
if it was the CPU it won't even turn on, I put my bet on the GPU
Well from my personal experience, i assume its 20% chance it might be the CPU and 80% chance it might be the GPU, shorting to ground the whole surrounding area
That smile every time when he says : And we have a short 😀 1:53 👏
Try checking voltages of the general power rails when it powers on and if everything is good then it could be the bios so try to do a reflash with a programmer! Great video..!
@LeeElectronics here been watching your videos for a while now. Love your work 😁
i am a IT student almost graduating my college, glad that youtube recommended your channel and i am super shocked that you can fix and revive some expensive gaming graphics card that people ask you and pay you to get their stuffs working again as an IT this comes interest to me that i am not going to attempt this or even study how soldering works but god its not even in the software that had problems but even these materials stuffs inside your pc case can cause blown fuse and stuffs and beeps that IT cannot pinpoint which can cause errors but i am loving these stuffs i hope to see more expensive cards being fixed!!
Alex, it could be the Bios. Had the same issue with a Dell laptop and I just had to reset the bios. Put in on a USB key and let the notebook start from there 💪🏼
Hello Alex! Profesional level of work as always!
P.S: The description of the video is from the previous one that with iphone baterry change. ;-)
You measured if there was a short between mosfet legs, but, maybe gate impedance, that must be very very high, is not. In that case, mosfets doesn't present a short, but still not working properly.
I'm electronic engineer and I love your channel and your work. I'm practicing with old motherboards I have stored to recycle components (as 3.3v regulators) and now I'm trying to extract and resolder BGA ICs and kind of.
Thanks for your videos, I'm learning a lot!
Hey @NorthridgeFix
The description for this video is from the last video that you have uploaded (Apple Authorized Repairs) one so just letting you know
A big fan of your videos
I had same problem with GL502, most likely problem with 3.3v. And I think your problem is I/O. but you need to program I/O if you want to change. In addition, before change the I/O if you have 3.3v in LDO pin of 3.3v chip controller, first try to reprogram bios.
Fixing Laptops is not only replacing the blown capacitor after voltage injection. Sometimes you have to find the schematics and spend more time getting to the trouble. Anyway i like your videos.
This is true, but if you are follower you know how busy he is, so if you have time you can spend it on schematics etc. He doesn't have that time.
hmm pc shutting down to protect some circuits so my idea is to try thermocam and try to locate witch module getting overheated and then look closer to this area good luck👍😀👍
The most useful part in this video Alex is knowing when you have tried enough things for now and moving onto the next repair. The number of people who would spend all day (we have all done it!) and still end up with no fix. There is a balance in running a business. You get paid per fix. So, why waste another 4 hours on this when you could fix many items in that same time and get many fees. Spare time, come back to it.
Well, in his case, he will get paid either way, by the repair attempt fee. Of course, the value is much lower and no business could run on that to survive.
and the short is gone! need to hear that before going to sleep! :)
that's a tricky one Mr. Holmes... hope I see part two.. love our enthusiasm.
Awaiting for part 2
Thanks
Sometimes its a good idea to leave it and come back another time with fresh eyes and mind.
that always works for me too
Just here to add into the CMOS clear vote.
4:53 "that beautiful amazing cap" lol
In 2009 I used to have a Gateway P-7805u laptop with a Geforce 9800M GTS in it, the GPU randomly died and the whole thing was screwed (CPU and GPU were soldered to the board). Was gonna cost over $600 to replace when the laptop itself had cost $1200 (plus tax). I scrapped it and that's what got me into building my own computers :)
had same issue, CMOS Clear fixes that
Hey Alex try resetting or reprogramming the bios chip i had a similar issue
1. Check Vcore qnd Vgpu coils voltages. 2. Try with fans connected, this board might look for fan rpm to start gpu, if still nothing I would go for bios clean with ME programming 😃
Good luck waiting for part II
I partially fixed my dead barely used Clevo laptop by watching your videos, everything works but the integrated Nvidia GPU won't start, it feels good to fix something but at the same time is frustrating when you find another and potentially more complex problem, great uploads Sir, I thank you for taking the time to put this content together.
Please check the ram
All your videos are amazing and the way you work is amazing. I follow all your videos and learn every day.🇩🇿🇩🇿
Disconnect the LCD cable
Resetting your CMOS
Power on an external monitor screen...
Isn't it possible that chip near the capacitor was killed by the short?
Really thought the cracked cap was all it needed but goes to show you never know. Love that thermal cam! Maybe plug it in and see whats heating up causing it to shut down if anything? Waiting to find out in part 2 🤔 🤓
So my guess is that there could be a few possibilities. You have a partial short somewhere that is not detected by checking the area with the two mosfets. It also could be a bad graphics chip because we see the machine turn on, but shut off after some time. Maybe there is also a pattern with it when you look under the thermal cam. It might be subtle but maybe it is a possibility to detect it.
Hey alex i experienced the same problem a few days ago with my computer. Turned out to be a RAM slot that was sorted. Unfortunately it could also be the cpu in which case the laptop will be gone. Hope you can fix it, wish you all the best!
You must fix this. No more sleep. No more going home. We wait in anticipation.
alex, try reset bios ,if nothing better try bypass the 2 mosfet for test with thermal camera ....or could be a superIO problem
amazing tech BETTER THAN FACTORY !!!
Cmos. Clear it, if there is still an issue, try reading it with the chip clip programmer and try to reprogram after a backup.
Time consuming yes, but not all that difficult. I have recovered 3 dead pcs by reflashing the bios, and the symptoms of bad or partially corrupt bios can vary
omg you make this shit look so easy ive tried to learn, you have to have good eye vision and non shaky hands.
Test with your thermal cam : Chipset dead, (or maybe CPU/GPU..) or when you press on the power button, disconnect immediately the cable of the power button and test. Maybe a faulty power button or lid.
Hey Alex nice seeing you again, I don't know if it's my account or something else otherwise have not been receiving your videos for the past 1 4 days ...
A cliffhanger..! This is like a story progressing and I honestly like it lol
That's interesting! I am waiting hopefully for the second part.
Alex try to programming the bios..i believe that is the problem.
Also try and with other DDR4 Ram.
We have a short, again, now we don't have short... Hmmmm if that were me i'll be flippin the whole table, lol... Part 2 Season 10 pleaseee
so what happens in this cases? can it truly be a no fix?
or with lots of time it would ?
it sure would be awesome to see those long videos!!! this is so relaxing and entertaining at the same time!
Check out with thermalcamer when you power on
You make it look so easy!
is it not turning off because the fans and heatsink are not connected . so its protecting itself and shutting down . just a thought bud . keep up the good work
Maybe you could try to reset bios/cmos or upgrade the bios.
Its not always a happy ending, but worth learning from this video.
الله يعطيك العافيه بصراحه شي بيقهر انو يوخد وقت كتييير واخر شي ما يصلح بلكي حاولت فيه مره تانيه ويشتغل معك ان شاء الله
Hello Alex!
Try to disconnect lcd cable, then reset cmos, next if previous trick's doesn't work, try to flash bios chip.
Please make a second part of it.
i think it might be the controller next to the blown cap , that is the closest possible remaining problem in my opinion
good job I hope that you could fix this laptop. I would check if the bios is ok just flashing it or if is possible clear it configuration data. otherwise seems that the superio chip is shutting down the pc because something seem not working as expected... maybe missing voltage ??
It could be the charging port, that needs to adjusted, or the I/O chip or any chip that gets tested and replaced in case it’s defected.
Well job done sir , remember you are the master of all repairs and I have so many notes from your videos on my pc that I can type if I have something that comes in I can find the problem fast ! Thank you 🙏 so much sir !
Nice trial but I think that it will be fixed in the next step. Keep walking.
Hey alex, big fan here. You should check all the cpu/gpu voltage rail. Or trying to reset the bios by removing the cmos battery or it could be simple as faulty ram.
You can also check the Ram board.
Check the temp of the CPU when is powering on, to see if is activating or overheating, in 7th gen i7 they overheat really fast and tunr of for security
يعطيك الف عافيه اليكس.... اعمل سوفت وير للايبروم
Maybe something like display ic or booster ic can also be shorted.
One of the only videos that’s no fix... I hope someone helps you like in the graphic card’s video
damn that's a tricky one maybe rewriting the BIOS chip I don't know
Better than factory ! Keep fighting
Waiting to watch part 2 Brother. BR
Try cleaning the board in an ultrasonic cleaner at high temp.
Waiting for part 2 to drop. Will it be a fix ? Or no fix ? Would be cool if viewers can cast their vote 🗳 before the video drops
Do you have continuation video of this? I'm want to learn more.. thanks
You will surely figure it out mate💯.
It's may temperature sensor switching off the PC .
Cant wait for part 2
Hope that make a great result and you can fix it👍👍👍
If you haven't removed CMOS Battery, please remove it for a while and then start the laptop. P.S. You should remove the rams too from the slots for about few seconds.
Resetting CMOS I can understand, but could you elaborate on why the ram should also be removed?
@@netpackonlinesolutions3254 Actually I don't know technical side of why we should also remove it for a while. however when I was troubleshooting my laptop I accidently did so. When I clicked power button laptop worked as normal.
This 2R2 resistor appears to be cracked....along with the capacitor you replace...
good job
Maybe overheating of CPU/GPU overprotection because no heatsink. Those kind of laptops use to heat up really quickly. Maybe check another RAM module just in case.
it s seems there s an ic next to the blown cap maybe if ts a defect one ...
Hi there at 04:00 you injected 1 volts on pin no.6 on drain ? right ? thnx
Try to disconnect the switch connector and shorten the 3.3 v with ground.
It seems that it is switch problem.
Or maybe it's the LED that's the problem or what about the air?.... 🤦♂️
Waiting for part 2 bro 👍👍👍
You changed the mosfets but not check if the mosfet controller is sending the enable signal to these mosfets to start work. Its possible that all the line is fried.
May be a bios flash/reprogram will help
That a sign of something wrong as if you power it on with the battery on it own it should power on ok but if the charger is been used to power on with and without the battery causes the laptop to shut off after a few seconds as I ran into a similar issue turns out the charging circuit ic failed so I ended up replacing the whole board completely. But do check it before going any futher without giving yourself a headache
where did you get the replacement mosfet a donor board?
Alex which heating nozzle tips do you use for heating up specific areas or components ? Thanks for sharing.
Some short before the mosfets, only get short this problematic cap Wen the mosfet is connected(you testthe mosfet and activate then check the cap and is short, de mosfet deactivate and the shirt is gone) and pass electricity.
You should check resistances on gpu and cpu voltage rails
Try to holding the power button for 1 minute without battery and ac charger to hard reset. Then try again. / Try swapping memory sticks or adding a different one/ Bios problem/ the worst, CPU or GPU. For me the board is fixed but something in the software prevent the startup.
hope you can fix it in another video
Waiting on part2 of this fix
Good try sir, I hope you will solves thise problem.
