    Those transmissions have an internal filter. A good lifelong friend and a Senior Honda Service Advisor, told me to “drop and fill” the ATF every 3rd engine oil change. You can also do a similar “poor man’s flush” by doing a drop and fill 2/3 times, but driving 20-30 miles in-between those drop and fills.

    The way you narrate this instructive session addressing the primary service procedure to keep Honda's very efficient automatic transmission running and shifting smoothly reliably provides special tidbits demonstrating Honda's mounting and fastener mechanisms for detachment and removal, as well as, reattachment and replacing, all most excellent. Simple maintenance make classic cars🙂. Some are destined as classic in the waiting when they roll off the factory floor. All vehicles well worth maintaining.

    I have an 05 Honda Accord giving me a flashing green D. It has difficulty shifting if i put too much gas and when the car gets up to ~ 60km/hr the rpm starts reving up to 3/4 and it wont shift at that point but will shift sometimes. Fluid is still pinkish and doesn't smell like burnt paper. Mechanic shop was getting errors when plugged up to the computer so they dont want to dive in to it. Trying to avoid going to a big Honda dealer and having them tell me it needs a rebuild or replacement. Should i still taje it in to see if they can diagnose it or try to tackle it myself? The rest of the car is in mint condition so I got lucky. Except, I replaced the driver's side axle and ball joint. The car runs fine with 183,000 MI... although the transmission is giving me problems. I'll drive and it will shift into, first then into second, at what seems to be the appropriate ranges.. if I continue to hold the throttle, it acts as though it slipped into neutral. Flares, if you will. If I sit and tap dance on the gas lightly, it will sometimes fall into the proper gear. But when I put the brake on, all RPMs drop and acts like it's just idling even when I'm coasting it 30 miles an hour. Any suggestions?

I was told that was good because it could damage it otherwise. The guy who sold it to me had taken out the front catalytic converter.. no it wasn't stolen LOL. He just wanted to get some money out of the car and figured that was a way to do it. Basically wash his hands of it so to speak.. in the process he damage the radiator and cooling fans which I replaced with new. And looking at the old radiator, it looks as though he cut the transmission cooling lines because the partial rubber hoses on each of them.. but I could not locate where they would go to. There was no brackets for open-ended hoses to go to. Haven't spoken to the guy in a while cuz he's had heart surgery so it's still a mystery. The times I have ran it, I haven't leaked any transmission fluid. I followed the Honda's instructions on checking it and it seems to be at the proper level. And it's not differing in the way it shifts.. like I said it will shift at 11 mph then 22... then around 29 is when it flares. I let off the gas and the RPMs drop down immediately to idle. I have a service manual but it's difficult to specify what symptoms they ask for them to give a cause. The closest I can find is one that says it is the C shift valve... I thought I would check with you before I started pulling random 10 mm bolts out LOL.. also there's obviously some oxygen sensor codes that come up on my blue driver and a large connector was cut that I haven't found a home for yet.. it comes from the harness on the front fuel rail/coil pack rail... could that affect the transmission in such a way? And obviously I have quite a few dash lights on. But none of the lights are blinking by the D or the 1, 2 or D3. Apparently that is a sign that particular shift valve has failed. I really appreciate you taking the time to read this book that I've written. Any help before I make matters "worse" would be greatly appreciated. I'm a custodian at my school district and it's summertime so I have absolutely no time to work on cars which is my favorite hobby. I made an appointment for Diagnostics at a Honda dealership on Monday but don't really want to give a dealership my money if I can figure it out on my own. With your help of course. Thanks again..

    Thanks for this great video. I also have the same year and model car. I recently had my transmission rebuilt and a little after the process I started experiencing delays in shifts and/or rough shifts. After doing some research I realized it's very likely due to solenoid problem because they weren't replaced, just cleaned.
    There is an oil leak in the car, steering fluid, and it drips down from near the solenoids. Do you think that could give a problem with the solenoids?

    • @BLUECOLLARGARAGE
      @BLUECOLLARGARAGE  Рік тому

      Is it oil or transmission fluid that’s leaking? Have you checked the transmission fluid level just to make sure it’s at the correct level? I would check those things first and if those are all good then it could potentially be the solenoid screens have some debris.

    • @selimthedream
      @selimthedream Рік тому

      @@BLUECOLLARGARAGE First of all I appreciate the kind response.
      Currently there are two different oil leaks in the car, engine oil and power steering fluid. I checked the transmission fluid regularly and there's no leaks there. I also know when the transmission was rebuilt the solenoids were cleaned. I doubt they'd get debris on them this quickly.
      Due to what I mentioned above I get kind of confused. The problems, late and rough shifting especially on gears 1-2 point towards solenoids but they were cleaned recently. Considering the part is electromechanical I wonder if there's a problem with the electric part of it?

      This Honda you need to check the transmission level with engine off. I would not take advice from the internet unless verified with the shop or owner’s manual. Owner’s manual clearly states how to properly check oils and fluids. It also clearly states when to change fluids and oils. Reading and understanding the owner’s manual is the key to getting 300,000 miles or more with this vehicle (and many others). Many cars do need their transmission fluid checked while the engine is running but that is the reason for each car to have it’s own instruction manual.
