Oh yeah, I started chatting up my conservative friends again during BLM and tons of people like this guy who just made me want to run in the opposite direction. Problem is, you stay around conservatives too long, at least the ones I was, and I found their was a lot of conspiracy theories they believe in, like they think everything is fake or against your rights. As someone who is firmly on the right, and consistently being called a racist/nazi/transphobe, what have you... I agree with about like 20% of what Destiny believes politically and watch him all the time. Probably one of my most watched channels. If anything Destiny exposes me to left-wing view points that are actually thought out an not just virtue signaling REEEEE'ing. I might not agree with them, but I can at least listen to him explain them because he does so in a logical and thought out rational way, instead of finger waving emotional arguments.

I find the idea that if we allow those ideas to be voiced then people will become radicalized to be unconvincing, in fact the opposite clearly seems to be true as we have observed people becoming more progressive statistically despite these people being allowed to voice their views.

But in all seriousness, I don't consider this person to represent the majority of left wing views. He sounds like he hasn't had a ton of life experience and sounds like most of what he believes comes from having a ton of uncritical conversations with people who already wholeheartedly agree with him.
Its easy for the right to label all lefties as commie/pedo/groomers. It's easy for the left to label all the right wingers as Nazi/racist/hateful people beyond saving. We seem to be doing that more and more often these days. If it keeps going the way it is, it leads to worse outcomes for us all.
I prefer to try to find common ground in conversations with people I disagree with rather than demonize them. It's amazing how much closer most of us are on a lot of topics than we think.

As a leftist with libertarian social values (I feel it’s relevant to contextualize), it’s pretty infuriating listening to him basically using race realism adjacent ideology to prescribe essentialized qualities to groups of people not realizing he’s doing exactly what Hitler did. It was the crux of pretty much every argument he had, appealing to some innate nature in other people as if his nature is just inherently good. It’s inherently othering and moral high horsing. While ultimately I don’t agree with every Destiny argues, I really appreciate the role he plays in contemporary politics and de-radicalizing both sides. A lot of my research and projects in college were on censorship, echo chambers, and political polarization and it was obvious that the research shows algorithms are creating more echo chambers that create more and more radical ideologies as people are no longer exposed to contrasting beliefs. The research even showed that conservatives tend to create echo chambers more than liberals did already (likely bc of perceived biases of these platforms), so forcing them off major platforms and into their own corner of the internet only reinforces this.

Speaking as a Canadian I can tell you what happens when you have "mild" restrictions on speech.
You create protected classes who get swell heads and seek out (and are granted) disproportionate power over society, which breeds rules and regulations that further restrict speech. Here in Canada there's a province that's trying to ban protests against anything related to LGBTQ+ altogether because these "mild" restrictions on speech has given them the ego to believe they can do this and they'll succeed at getting it done. All of it done under the guise of empathy, but really is just weaponized sympathy.
"Mild" restrictions on speech generates WAY more animosity than absolute free speech ever could because absolute free speech means the ability to counter any ideas with better ideas openly, "hateful" or otherwise. While "mild" restrictions ensure that you do not get to challenged bad ideas that are sanctioned by the government as the only "correct" ideas.
I put quotations around mild because there ain't nothing "mild" about these restrictions. If you are sued on human rights violations in Ontario's Human Rights Tribunal court, which can be just for a speech infraction, you can be paying $250,000 just to the court itself. People who don't live in these countries with "mild" restrictions on speech should NEVER talk about these restrictions.

Yeah, that particular thought patten "Ok, I lied about something super serious, but there probably are real examples somewhere." is terrifying. Once you accept that pattern as legitimate, you can believe literally anything without friction.

Then okay? Why censor them? If some people are just destined to behave a certain way, it shouldn't make a difference. The people who'll fall right will do so with or without the influence of others.
Or if the concern is that the actions of people can push people right, and being exposed to hateful beliefs does that, then the conversation would have to shift to him explaining how censorship isn't a hateful action that pushes people in a certain direction.
