  • A new episode of my Dr Vstrom, brake maintenance video series on how to remove, inspect, clean, lube & remount the front brake calipers. The video was created after a lot of questions/requests on the social media.
    Whether you ride in winter time or its been a long time since you last serviced your brakes, its always a good idea to give your brake calipers some attention at least once every year & before the new riding season is about to start. Servicing those brake parts & their components is critical as salt, dirt, brake dust & rust tend to accumulate & inhibit their proper operation.
    Although motorcycle brake calipers are simple in operation they do tend to occasionally suffer from the causes mentioned above & drag or make squeaking or other noises. The issue can usually be traced to badly serviced calipers & their components such as dirty/rusty caliper pistons, corroded caliper pins, cracked caliper boots, etc.
    It is then time to give them some attention by inspecting, cleaning & lubricating them to handle this problem.
    This video walks you through the process of doing exactly that & demonstrates on a Vstrom 2017 but the process is the same for all calipers.

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  3 роки тому

      Hello my friend. I guess the way is to follow the video, clean well and lubricate with the right products. It also depends on what brake pads you use. Some noise might also come after some time especially if you drive off-road or there is increased heat that will make the calipers dirty again or dry the lubricants. What matters most is that your brakes do their job and stop you safely. Ride safe

      Is this shake normal ?

    • @DrVstrom

      Did you take the wheel off? When you press the brake, is it hard or soft? The best thing to do is to take the brakes apart and follow the video step by step slowly. If something is not well fitted it will leave marks in the disk.

      Csaba Vass its ok in the sense it will not do damage. Problem is it washes out very fast and does not protect against corrosion. That is why I only use it there in the pistons cause it is compatible with the brake fluid and it will not harm the seals. Better use silicone grease for the pins as i mention.

    Hi sir, while putting a front axle slider on my 2021 650 xt, the front wheel got displaced and after fitting it back, now my front break pads are stuck and its difficult to move the bike. Will the above cleaning procedure help. Also at present i only have red rubber grease and a lithum based grease. Can i use these for now till i get the silicone and ceramic grease?
    Thank you in advance.

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  Рік тому

      I dont understand what exactly you did with th slider. Just follow the video for the brakes. Use th3 greases you have for now. Do not clean the grease inside the rubber parts which is silicone. Leave it there and clean the other parts only.

      When I had to do this I researched for a product and did not select that. What you put there myst also be resistant to high temperatures. You acan find the product I gave you in ebay or amazon. If you cannot get it any silicon grease that also withstands high temp might be ok.
