  • Evoé - a documentary about the Brazilian director, actor, and playwright Zé Celso, of the Oficina Theater. 104 minutes, 2011.
A film that mixes like a labyrinth recent interviews and historical images from the career of the Brazilian director, actor, and playwright Zé Celso, of the Oficina Theater, one of the greatest artistic personalities in the history of Brazil.
The documentary travelled to the four places which are the key to understanding Zé Celso's work: the Sertão (badlands) of the Brazilian state of Bahia to experience the question of Earth; Cururipe beach in northeastern Brazil, to be immersed in the philosophical concept of Anthropophagy; his apartment in São Paulo; and in Epidaurus and Athens in Greece, the birthplace of Dionysius and of Theater.
With full access to the Oficina company's infinite and ever growing archive of images and sounds, mixed with contemporary images, an extremely particular and provocative vision is constructed, which results in a stimulating film and in a magic document, for today and for the future.
Without captions, without apparent dates, and without didacticism, the film is a potent flow of images and sounds that leave the spectator in a state of constant attention. EVOÉ, a film which is anthropophagic in its essence, can be shown cyclically, as it has no beginning and certainly will never have an end.
A film written and directed by Tadeu Jungle (www.tadeujungle.com.br) and Elaine Cesar 1968-2012). Produced by Academia de Filmes: www.academiadefilmnes.com.br , An ITAU CULTURAL product: novo.itaucultur...
