You could see him feeling it out, checking if there were enough Rocky chants or the boos, We Want Codys, and Rocky Sucks chants were louder. You can see him slowly walking them all into an "IT DOESN"T MATTER". Good crowd work from the Rock as usual.
The people forced him to turn heel by rioting for Cody. He was genuinely pissed. lol
Meanwhile, cena still doing captain america when people like the rock, hogan, stonecold, triple h, taker, shawn michaels etc have turned heel multiple times.

I don't think it was all planned. They tested the water with Rock vs Roman and see if it will work. At best, they probably expected the backlash (maybe not to this extent) so before doing that smackdown segment they probably made yo a backup plan. But yeah I don't believe it was all work. Dwayne getting triggered about Cody mentioned his family after all the times the American Dream has been conjured up by Roman and Heyman was box office. It was like the older brother of a bully stepping in to defend his brother despite all the terrible things he has done. That truly emphasizes the dangers of blind family loyalty. When was the last time you saw Dwayne have to resort to physical combat to win a war of words. Cody got right under their skin with that line about their grandfathers. That goes a little way to giving him some credibility back after making him look like a complete moron 6 days ago.
Surprised you didnt mention there were a surprising amount (sounded like almost half) of the crowd cheering for the rock. There was even a cena-like "we want cody, cody sucks" chant. Me personally I'm a Cody fan but the division was surprising and exciting.

Bro WWE is Literally bending us to their will and i don't know how to feel about It. On one hand I'm happy because the storytelling is good. On the other hand it's kinda scary how easily they can influence wrestling fans. One moment everyone was mad and now they are eating out of the hand of WWE.

I love that Rock Triple H moment at the post show thing. First Rollins talking about Riddles wife and kids leaving him then this. If it's a work then gosh it honestly convinced me it was a work. This needs to be a norm a bit for feuds like this or feuds between 2 wrestlers who have history of hating one another. Promos that feel real and blur the line between scripted and real life/shoot

I think when the Rock was asking the questions he was during the conference he was gauging which direction to go in real time. This is the stuff him and triple h had learned to do back in the the day. The idea used to be "lets see how the fans react and go from there" before everything got all 'pre-scripted". Triple H had said multiple times during conferences before "WE want what the fans want but it's gotta be done right." problem is, we know that someone like Vince later on would always change plans at the last second. Now since there's no Vince and you have two of the best students of the game running the company, I feel like things are going to go in a very different but consistent direction.
As Triple H said at the beginning of the conference "This is a new WWE."
