Great video. The one thing I find a little deceiving is that rarely do people book one way fares, so roundtrip this flight is priced at $8,500 for virtually any day for the next several months. In reality the flight you took was just over $4,200 and not $15,000. Looks like a great product and the cabin is much more 'luxe' feeling than their brother-airline over the border in Germany.
Booking one-way tickets isn't that uncommon. Many people from countries where people travel a lot (i.e. not the USA) do it often for the savings. Australian's and New Zealander's do it often as getting to Europe is very expensive and takes a long time, 24-30hrs (longer with lay-overs) - sometimes it can be 36hrs if you get a lay-over or a connecting flight delay. The other reason some people don't get one-way tickets is because they aren't legally allowed to. Some countries citizens are required to have return (or in some cases outbound) tickets before even being allowed in. Using Australia and New Zealand as examples - many of their citizens have citizenship to countries in Europe, in Asia or the Middle East. Say an Australian citizen has an EU citizenship as well, they are permitted to get one-way tickets to Europe. If however they only had Australian citizenship, they'd be required to have a return ticket as the EU doesn't permit outbound tickets (only return) for those without citizenship or a long-stay visa (long-stay visa holders are the only one permitted to enter with an outbound ticket and in some cases without an outbound ticket if the visa is valid for years).
For award flights in premium cabins, booking one way is the norm because of limited availability. It doesn't make sense imo to compare it to one leg of a roundtrip
The last minute one-way fare is usually used by youtubers in either their title or thumbnail of their videos to get more views. It is essentially clickbait. When you plan your trip properly and choose your point of origin wisely, you can often save on First Class tickets.
@@yvr2002rtw that's all well and good but there's almost never first class award fares available far in advance on LX, except maybe one or two days per month
I was offered CHF1,800 to upgrade from J to F, ZRH-NRT but declined. Now after watching your video kinda regretting not to upgrade... 😣 Great video, keep 'em coming!
Flew LH F this week and it was incredible. The First Class Terminal in Frankfurt and the Porsche transfer to/from your plane was incredible. Definitely want to try Swiss sometime soon too!
6:08 Swiss serves caviar as part of one of the quarterly the Connoisseur Experience periods, of which your truffle menu was one. This was for about 2 weeks from late February 2024, though I’ve previously had it in May. I think these menus are only available on the outbound flights from Switzerland. It’s definitely worth trying - three different varieties including one Swiss produced one.
One not about upgrades at check-in. They are not always offered!! Ricky probably got lucky because the Zurich-Montreal route is considered to be a low yielding route that happened to be operated by an aircraft that has a First Class cabin. In these cases, paid First Class passengers are more rare and seats often fly out empty. Try doing this on more premium heavy routes such as JFK-ZRH vv or LAX-ZRH vv where the First Class cabin can sometimes be full - hence no paid upgrades available.
Have watched four reviews on Swiss First class including one by nonstopDan but yours definitely the best ...in saying that I really do not think much of the Swiss first bathrooms they look like an economy bathroom . I have travelled Etihad first class before Covid loved them also much prefer staying in Abu Dhabi its much nicer then Dubai and Doha... after watching all 4 reviews .. My conclusion is the one thing I did prefer about Swiss was the use of the Swiss lounge's dayroom with comfy bed and great view .other aspects of Swiss I didnt find that luxurious ...I will stick to Emirates First Class from Australia not only is it more luxurious but they have better connections from Australia and fly to more European cities .. But I always enjoy your vlogs , especially over covid watching you was the next best thing to travelling without the walking , Waiting customs ..Thank you Ricky..
Nice review. The hotel room in the lounge , can we make reservations online or through their customer support on the phone or you have to be at the lounge ?
Ricky, I really love your videos, but I feel like this video was...just regular-old good. I remember watching some of your older videos, specifically the ones to and from Dubai, and being absolutely blown away by how well-shot, and well-edited the videos were. They made me feel excited for the flight, even like I was there with you because of the editing magic, and how well put-together everything was(especially the takeoff edits). But this video really lacked that, and it was more like every other reviewer. By no means was this a bad video, but I felt like you lacked what set you apart and what put you another level above everyone else. I hope you understand that this isn't hate on your vids, but I really think you should reconsider the direction your channel has gone.
Awesome job as always Ricky and great job snagging Swiss F without having to resort to using a bijillion Lufthansa Miles and More miles and HON Circle status 😅👍🏻😎
It’s worth it for the experience, if you’re curious about what a high quality First Class is like. Great food & beverages, service, comfort. I really enjoyed it, but also am happy with their Business Class product, especially if I can get a throne seat.
Guy @7:12 in the BG thinking... oh man... another UA-camr who's flying on points. Curious if you've ever had negative interactions with other passengers who are paying money for these flights. When I flew Swiss in J I was with someone who upgraded himself to F in the lounge... I think he had status and wondered if most of the F passengers were doing it on their own dime or not.
The reason you didn't taste artichoke in your Jerusalem Artichoke plate is because it isn't artichoke! from wikipedia: "The Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus), also called sunroot, sunchoke, wild sunflower, topinambur, or earth apple, is a species of sunflower native to central North America. It is cultivated widely across the temperate zone for its tuber, which is used as a root vegetable."
I booked it via bidding an upgrade from business on a very long roundtrip of Zurich to Shanghai and back. I really enjoyed it
Unpopular opinion but I think Swiss has the best First class out there.

I was on LX First April last year! Lovely experience it was. Upgraded from J to F on check-in, didn't regret one bit.
Great video, Ricky. One of the few airlines on my bucket-list.

Finally checking off this bucket list item :)
So awesome!!! I love it! I hope I can try this one day too!!
Hehe boiii! Nice video :)
0:42 My Favourite lounge..
what are the key differences between business and first that make it worth 1400 CHF more?

Good stuff Ricky but you did not wear a ball cap during your flight on Swiss.
I like your style
Should've kept shoes on for take-off!
Please keep the shirt on!

I had a great conversation with this guy about the work I do. I find most fellow passengers are great to pass the time with!
Best redemption of Alaska Airlines miles to Japan and… Go!
Swiss is Nr One
Plumbum 😂

Very classy, I love it, the food was so European. Much better than Business class, it looks so outdated,
Great synopsis but the chomping sounds are annoying AF.
swissair doesnt exist anymore since 2002 today its only swiss

RADHA RAMAN KRSNA ❤❤️❤️
Too bad, their administration couldn't afford my honeys price tag
=children of Biafra=
Nice trip, but remember to shave, lol
You seem more of a UA-cam personality than a person.
I liked this guy... until he said.. Italian food is not his favorite...
who cares😂
May be not exposing the armpits? 😬Please?
Keep your clothes on bro
Your videos are too much PR for me, sorry
