Deadly Nightkid doubtful, even without Micah the gang was gonna fall apart, civilization and to a degree a moral society were on their heels, Dutch was never a “good” outlaw, no such thing exist, he was good to his gang because they were his, he provided companionship and leadership and they became his muscle and money makers, besides he didn’t educate anyone besides Arthur, and maybe John, but that one is debatable, they were always gonna end in a violent way, especially Dutch, always stuck to the past and his feeble outlaw morality. You don’t believe he never robbed, killed, or maimed someone innocent ever? That’s his bread and butter, but he justifies it by claiming they had it coming.
@@joescannoli7660 I don't think Dutch killed innocents before the events of the game, cause Arthur wouldn't have seen an evolution of him, I really think he was once a good person despite being an outlaw, why would he have saved Sadie for ? He could have let her die and robbed her but he chooses to welcome her and help her rise again, even if it was beneficial for him, it still means more problems for the gang.

While I agree with this I still don't see why people are "upset" about the lady in Guarma, I would've killed her to if she was gonna hold me up at knifepoint like that, I mean I was ready to shoot then right there, I was trying to change to my pistol to shoot her in the head the moment she pulled out the knife, and then before that she was acting all greedy after taking an entire gold bar from me just to show me through some caves...
Dutch is so damn charismatic. That's why I still like him. But whenever I reach chapter 6 I just start to hate him. I was happy to see him finally kill Micah at the end, that kind of redeemed himself ever so slightly.

He's actually a pretty decent guy. He offered both Arthur and the gang opportunities to escape. But by the time that Dutch and the others realized Milton was really serious about hunting them down it was already too late.
Gotta give it to him, when he said, "You will die savagely!" He kept his word.

RDR1 Dutch: A crazy maniac who lost his way and charm.
Master Chief John-117 he looks so presentable and friendly for most of the second game up to the fourth chapter, and seems like a great father figure who really cares about his people. In the last chapter in particular it doesn’t go to plan though the beginning of it isn’t too bad in terms of Dutch.
In the first game however, it just saddens me to compare what the Dutch from 1899 looked like to the Dutch in 1911

I love the irony in Dutch's speech to confront Cornwall. That the idea of 'choosing' who you kill or rob to be more noble because you don't end up destroying everything in one's path - yet Dutch does exactly that. Not only do his decisions to rob and kill tear apart the gang in the end, but he also ends up ruining the lives of the Native Americans Rains Fall and Eagle Flies, who lose everything. Dutch was just as much a deceitful and cunning snake as Cornwall.
Yep, and Arthur knew it, too. My guess is that Dutch could have become suspicious of Arthur if Arthur spoke up, which is why he didn't.

Seeing Dutch lose it like this was just plain horrifying. He used to be such a nice guy too.
Dutch started to act out of line when he killed that innocent girl in blackwater and Bronte and his descent went even further when Hosea died. He was his best friend and the voice of reason in the gang. But after Guarma, Micah manipulated Dutch and replaced Arthur as Dutches right hand man and Arthur has been with Dutch and Hosea since the beginning for 20 years. When Dutch left Arthur to die, any loyalty he had for Dutch was broken and he secretly planned to get John and his family out of this before it was too late. At that point, The Plan to live free was just an excuse just as John said in RDR1. When Dutch left his Arthur and John to die and when he left Abigail to her fate, with the risk of Jack being an orphan, any remaining loyal was forever gone and everything that they lived and fought for was just an excuse and a lie. Arthur, John, Abigail Hosea, Lenny, Sean, Pearson, Uncle and the others truly wanted to start over and go straight but Micahs manipulation and Dutch leaving those most loyal to die instead of helping cause the Van Der Linde gang to be disbanded.
Dutch doesn’t have a bad heart. He went crazy because of the circumstances. You would too if you had to take care of a lot of people and all you see is half of them getting killed and the other half fighting each other.

Honestly, I applaud Dutch for killing Cornwall, if only he was smarter about it.
Did make some sense after all. If he accepts, everything they'd been trying to accomplish would be there right that minute (even though they might still have to fight off some guys that would come after them on their passage). If not, at least the guy who pays the Pinkerton Agency to hunt them isn't there anymore.
He also said he doesnt kill people in cold blood, but the way he says it here implies that he does. Kinda sucks how he changed later : I

Heidi McCourt, Angelo Bronte, Leviticus Cornwall (Bronte and Cornwall may have deserved it but still), etc. Though he definitely did change in some regard, likely a mixture of everyone in the gang dying, his implied brain injury and Micah getting in his head constantly.

Dutch was always charamstic idealist and Hosea was the logical/logistical manager. Without Hosea, dutch's idealism became an unhinged weapon, and the gang turn from a group/business to rebels without a cause, trying to both escape AND right the perceived wrongs of the world with no discretion or long term plan.Going after Cornwall was dutch letting his sense of morality and ego overtake good strategy. Same as killing Bronte, we see dutch going over Hoseas head so its implied even if Hosea hadn't died, dutch may have already been to far gone to listen to reason at that point anyway.

I like the way killing Cornwall wasn't the end of their problems. Instead it acted as a catalyst for their downfall. Clever storytelling.
RDR3 should go further back in time, and we play as Dutch.
Pierre C yeah that would be great, having a young Arthur at your side and a young John and the last mission is playing through the black water massacre, it would neatly spread the narrative and just serve to make every character deeper. And hurt that much more when you reach the end of RDR1
I disagree, the Redemption series should end here. It really is poetic . Start up a new series in the 1860s or 1870s. During the height of the wild west.

I disagree simply for the fact that RDR is a shooting game and there would be even less guns than the alrrady small pool of gun we have available. If they keep it going with the same group I hope it's with Jack and something with WW1. Or he could become pre WW2 mob boss.

Cornwall represents everything dutch hates. He probably felt good killing him so much it brought a flicker of an old flame back for a bit.
Say what you will about Dutch. His daring and skill are unquestionable. Despite the trouble this caused for the gang, I think this is one of Dutch’s most heroic moments.

As insane as Dutch is, he’s one badass character
Cornwall is an incredible representation of the "robber barons" seen in the industrial revolution. The robber barons were rich men who exploted workers or other kinds of people in order to have the most amount of money in their pockets. Rockstar's writing is unmatched.
What’s also kinda funny is this is only 1 of 2 scenes he’s in the entire game.

There was too many Pinkertons shooting for him to have time to drive away... Plus after he had Micah get them papers they basically had to flee from the Pinkertons leaving no time to get back to the ship

In defense of Dutch's plan: 5:01 implies Micah's job was to shadow the man and retrieve his documents that likely contained info about the state bonds in Cornwall's oil refinery and the train-shipments of army payroll. Throughout this entire chapter, Dutch used sporadic terrorism and distractions to keep the Pinkertons guessing as to their next move -- what he calls "noise." He does that here by starting a shootout with Cornwall's men to ensure Micah succeeded. He does the same thing later by encouraging the Native's attack on the oil fields, all so he could get a crack at the office desk.
Weirdly, Dutch's plan did "work." It was just executed at the expense of the people Dutch was supposed to care for. He started regarding his gang as expendable. Micah convinced him "survival" was what mattered above all else. Arthur "thought different."
Sh*t, did I just do a game theory???
His plan did work,especially in the end.But in turn he became the very man he told Arthur never to be.
