I decided to look at Tank 300, but if Landcruiser Mini comes in around the same price as Tank 300, I would buy Toyota ahead of Tank. Jimny has been priced out of competition ($AUD 40K) and is inferior to Tank and Toyopta
With all respect, comparing this Toyota to a Jimny makes absolutely no sense...let me explain. 1. Every manufacturer that's targeting the Jimny market make their cars bigger....why! You already missed a key point that Jimny owners want the compact size as parking is easy, and manoeuvring in urban spaces is easy... it fits everywhere! 2. The turning circle is best of all 4 seaters, and perhaps even now, 4 doors...under 10 meters...majority of same sized cars are around 11 meters. This small turning circle adds to the ease of parking, 4x4 ing etc. If you go over 10 metres, you've missed the target market yet again. 3. Legendary simplicity, but yet most basic comforts. Keeping it simple means lower price, and really under €30k...coming in at closer to €40k is 25% off... 4. Dimensions...already mentioned it, but keep to the exact dimensions, and you have a winner....if it ain't broken, don't fix it! 5. Legendary 4x4 capabilities... I've seen these little cars go where Range Rovers and other big fancy 4x4s would dream going...stick to the simplicity of the 4x4 drivetrain. In closing, there seems to be many OEM's thinking they going to dethrone they Jimny with their new offer, but then missing pretty much all of the areas, that make a Jimny so bloody good...till then Suzuki will continue to rule this segment :-)... my 2c's
Well, the actual competitor for this is more the GWM Tank 300 and in the US the Ford Bronco. As obscure as that sounds, they are a similar size, similar engines and similarly priced.
Expensive LandCruiser's waiting period is 4 years, this one will have waiting period of 8 years. They need to work on production quantity not cheaper cars. People will buy cheaper Jimny and modify it for cheaper.

The Jimny is successful because it is so AFFORDABLE. Owners of the Jimny ( or at least a great portion of owners) are satisfied with the lack of power, lack of luxury and, in particular, the lack of space because it is so well set off by the affordability. The only way any competition will be able to compete, is if it matches the Jimny in price. If it is small to a similar extent to the Jimny but not as affordable, then there would be no point and purpose to the vehicle and nothing for Suzuki to worry about.
We always refer to the Suzuki Jimny, but with the dimensions and engines announced, it is more to be compared to the Suzuki Grand Vitara. If so, I'm buying, I miss her.😀
Seems to me the problem with the Toyota is it wont be a basic relatively cheap vehicle. I am sure that will appeal to those with the cash but the Jimny is a great size and sufficiently basic to not have to worry so much about it. It also lends itself to modification. It’s the same issue with the Ineos Grenadier. It sounded great when it was first announced and now that it is here it is so expensive you have to be rich to use it as an off roader. For off roading you need a capable car you can easily repair at an affordable price. This is why i keep my old Land Rover Defender. It does the job very well, I can repair pretty much any of it myself, parts are relatively cheap and easy to source.
At the price points, and we currently own a 2023 Jimny, I would buy the Toyota and keep my Jimny. It’s like I have more than one motorcycle. Different tools for different jobs.
1:43 I am a Toyota man through and through but Toyota have a long way to go to beat the value and quality of the Suzuki Jimny. Its a fantastic vehicle. Suzuki hit the nail right on head. Stop critisizing the Jimny just to push Toyota. The Suzuki is in a class of its own. You are struggling to find ways to run the Jimny down. I am keeping my Hilux Toyota but had driven and ordered my Jimny. The feel good factor of the Suzuki is awesome. Toyota are having to build a cheaper vehicle to try match the quality of Suzuki Sorry Suzuki win this round hands down. Its in a class of its own. Give it some praise it deserves.
Im looking to update my car in 2024 and want a 4wd. I'm waiting for more details on this, but if it comes in the diesel variant for around the $50k mark, I'd be very interested!!
Its not only Jimney it is also Dacia Duster which btw is much better. But I don't think this sells to US or Australia. Duster is not as pretty as Suzuki - I agree. I also want this Toyota boxy thing - cant wait to see it.
If Toyota manufacturers this new Land Cruiser Mini in India it would sell in great numbers, a market of 1450 million people that wants a durable, reliable, efficient, affordable SUV, even Suzuki Jimny is exclusively manufactured here in India, it would be unwise for Toyota to manufacture this new mini Land Cruiser in Thailand as that would essentially mean giving up on the biggest compact SUV market in the world. Toyota needs to build this Mini Land Cruiser in India or Local Champion (Rising)Mahindra would eat Toyota's market of utility vehicle everywhere. Building this Mini Land Cruiser in India would also reduce the world wide unit price of this car as Toyota would already have a giant market with a growing population to profit from. Can even make a pickup truck out of this concept, that would open another market segment for Toyota.
We saw the FJ Cruiser get robbed of the diesel engine and think this mini cruiser will follow. With a hot refresh of the Prado inbound later this year I'm highly doubting Toyota will be wanting to hurt their sales...
Why are the side mirrors so big! Really annoying if you want to look out or take photos to the side. Especially as the reason you go off road is to see things such as wild animals , spectacular scenery.
The problem with the Jimny is too light on the highway. It comes in like a 1945 WILLY that is also too light for highway driving. The front end float and they are only good below 40 mph on a farm.
Jimmy is based on a kei car sized vehicle. If Toyota was to challenge the Jimny, I would expect them to release it through their Daihatsu brand and then facelift it as a Toyota.
Theres already a 5 door version of the Suzuki Jimny that is sold in India, nonetheless nothing comes close to the Jimny when it comes to price for performance specially when its so easy to upgrade anything you can think of for a low price making it the perfect for those who love to customize their car.
I sometimes wonder about Toyota really..if they going to bring out a mini then why not continue with the 3 door they had before it was a great vehicle or the Rave 3 door that was such a beautiful car but they discontinued them for what purpose I have no idea but hallo now they bring one back ...crazy
Here in South America most Toyota Hilux (made in Argentina) comes with a 2.4 Diesel, don't know if this engine is used in Thailand made Toyotas but I would think it woulb be a better fit for the Land Cruiser Mini.
Yeah I've been hanging out for Toyota to bring out their version of Jimny, as Jimny doesn't have long range tanks & Jimny is a tad to small for my leg room 👍
It's called LandCruiser 250 and it has almost exactly the same frame as the new 300. Also it's really big. Within 30cm of the 300. Basically there's nothing mini about it.

Sorry Suzuki win this round hands down. Its in a class of its own. Give it some praise it deserves.
Jimnys are on FB market for like 35k+
Toyota and Dihatsu both had small 4x4 before Suzuki did and had a 2.2 ltr diesel in the scout
Five minutes of bla bla delivering five seconds of information. This is the pure beauty of youtube.
A mini Land Cruiser would be a huge seller in the U.K. as long as it’s a plug in hybrid to overcome our dumb emissions standards.
Never seen a Jimny for 28k! 🤣
Luka Doncic doing car reviews in the off season? 😂
Im looking to update my car in 2024 and want a 4wd. I'm waiting for more details on this, but if it comes in the diesel variant for around the $50k mark, I'd be very interested!!
No way this will be in Australia before 2025
Update, or replace?
It makes sense. You would have small, medium, and large Land Cruisers. With the 4Runner being the medium.
Why has no one identified the vastly popular Raptor range to genuinely compete with?
Haven’t seen a new Jimmy under 40k
The Jimny is for the crowd who want a cheap 4WD with the structural integrity of a can of coke. Toyota won't build anything that bad.
With its dimensions and price, Jimny has nothing to worry about.
We saw the FJ Cruiser get robbed of the diesel engine and think this mini cruiser will follow.
With a hot refresh of the Prado inbound later this year I'm highly doubting Toyota will be wanting to hurt their sales...
So I guess not for the the US market?
it aint a jimny killer if it aint in the same price range. the jimny is just more loved and iconic.
Why are the side mirrors so big! Really annoying if you want to look out or take photos to the side. Especially as the reason you go off road is to see things such as wild animals , spectacular scenery.
Jimny was essentially killed here in Europe. I fear that this wont be released globally...if so, I will be the happiest little bird alive.
I'll believe it when I see it. I just don't see Toyota selling a real 4x4 for $25K.
Guarantee the Toyota mini will be over 50k drive away and not the projected $37k. Hardly a killer when it’s sold at a premium price.
The 2.8 litre Diesel will make it quite fast considering its size.
18k for this hell yeah I wish we had this in Texas
Can’t seen the Toyota being priced under $30,000. Even $40,000 might be a stretch. Suzuki will still hold its market if it can maintain its price.
My money is that Suzuki is making this vehicle for Toyota
Here in South America most Toyota Hilux (made in Argentina) comes with a 2.4 Diesel, don't know if this engine is used in Thailand made Toyotas but I would think it woulb be a better fit for the Land Cruiser Mini.
Jimny is already killing itself by it's extreme price range. Thar has already killed it.
It will be more independent suspension shit. If it isn't solid axles it's a soft roader. Lets just hope the Jimny Ute comes out soon.
The 2001 trios i have is amazing,... Well it would be if there was a crawler gear.
Yeah I've been hanging out for Toyota to bring out their version of Jimny, as Jimny doesn't have long range tanks & Jimny is a tad to small for my leg room 👍
Australia won't get nothing
Harrier please
It's called LandCruiser 250 and it has almost exactly the same frame as the new 300.
Also it's really big. Within 30cm of the 300.
Basically there's nothing mini about it.
Failed with Diihatsu - why a winner now ? Dream on mate
Tata harrier please
In E Europe this wont sell unless it has a smaller engine than 2.0. Tax here is huge for big engines.
