Milton 10/6 10 p.m. update: Hurricane Milton picks up more steam as it sets a course for Florida

- The storm continues to intensify as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico. It's expected to strengthen to a major Cat. 4 hurricane before reaching Florida.
Evacuate if you are on the Gulf coast. Even if this storm weakens before landfall it has the entire Gulf of Mexico to develop and push in the storm surge.
Since the water in the Gulf of Mexico is being over 85 degrees, this storm is intensifying rapidly. 7 a.m. this morning it was a cat 3 and at 12 p.m. it became cat 5. The warmer the water the intensification builds up faster in short period of time. This almost doing what Katrina did in 2005 during the intensification time period.
I'm so worried, I have family in Jacksonville.

I believe Milton will be over 5 when it hits Florida to the Atlantic and build up again as it goes up the eastern coast. Just because the idiots say there is no climate change doesn't make it so.

You can't go over Cat 5.
Right now, It is a Cat 5 with 160mph winds as of 10:55 am EDT (Source: NHC). When it makes landfall, NHC is looking at a Cat 2 or Cat 3. It's too early to tell, though.
CORRECTION: As of 1pm EDT, wind speed is now 175 mph. Extremely dangerous system.

What enough of the hurricanes? I’m with you but this is the world we created, hurricanes are only gonna get worse and more frequent as climate change progresses. And woah look at that there’s nothing we can do to stop it 🙃 as the oceans warm up more and more, these storms will become more frequent and deadly. Leave Florida while the property value is up, I’m guessing it’s not gonna be in the next 5 years.

No expert here, but isn't it fairly unusual for a hurricane that forms that far in the south and west of the Gulf to head east? Those usually head for Texas and Louisiana. Hey, I'm glad we're not going to get it.
