Folks, this guy can PLAY!! Absolutely fantastic! I love the sound of a Gretsch guitar anyway, and in the hands of a master like Brian, it is pure magic.
How someone can come up with this arrangement and execute it with perfection, is beyond my comprehension as a guitarist. Say what you want about the greats like Hendrix, Clapton, Atkins, Benson, Metheny, Scofield, on and on.... Setzer is arguably THE top dog of all time. I watch this video frequently to get my fix... amazing.
such an amazingly talented guy! has never disappointed me ever since i was a little kid! its so crazy to watch his technique and to see him switch from using his pick to finger picking all while holding his pick in his one finger and doesn't miss a beat! such an inspiration :)
I've known this for a long time, but...damn...he's a such a great guitar player...and his beautiful Gretsch guitar sound...fit him and his style perfectly!
Awesome video he's got fantastic finger and pick coordination and technique and his music skills and arrangements are just wonderful thanks for the upload
That has got to be "one of America's Greatest Musical Treasures." I woodshed for what seems for years with my guitar, Mr. Setzer you keep me wanting to push myself beyond my capabilities. You are in a class all your own! May you be with us for many years to come!
I was there about 25 feet away from him. Seriously impressive playing...and it just kept going. The green theme was because of it being his first gig in Ireland, btw.
I've seen Brian play a number of times, and each time I do I swear I'm quitting the guitar. But of course I don't and I learn something everytime I see him play. I've met Brian and he autographed my guitar for me and he just a remarkably talented and UNDERRATED artist.
this is a fact , he is deffintly under rated , why i dont have a clue , he is for sure one of the best , hands down , you know someone is great if could just here and tell thats brian playing, rock on ,one of my fav solo is i wont stand in your way, oh and you cant leave out rock this town
I'm amazed at the way he changes from using the pick then goes to finger style while holding the pick between his thumb and forefinger and back again, he even flicks the pick up switch and does it !
I got to see him at ACE music once . A music store in Santa Monica ,Ca. What a treat and funny as hell too. Hank ,one of the owners would order stuff just to tempt him in. They would sit and yack and Mr.Setzer was always a gent. Funny though, no other players felt like trying out gear while he was in the store. I wonder why? What I learned was to be more "musical" not just a guitar operator. thanks for posting.
Whenever Rolling Stone does the top 100 guitarists.... He is never in it.......yet Joan Jett is included....lol! It's criminal! Thanks for sharing such an awesome vid of my hero! :-)
As much as I love Joan Jett and Ace Frehley, who are important in their own way, they simply are not in the league as Brian.....and yet he doesn't make their list. The man is singlehandedly keeping rockabilly alive.
Isn't he the true (though he came late) king of rockabilly guitar? He mixes scotty moore, cliff gallup, carl perkins and some other of those early heroes into one wonderful style of playing, just awesome!
YOU WOULD BE AMAZED AT THE AMOUNT OF REAL GUITAR TALENT OUT THERE THAT NO-ONE WILL EVER SEE OR HEAR, EXCEPT MAYBE THE GUYS THEY JAM WITH ON A WEEKEND. SUCH A SHAME THERE TALENT IS JUST SEEN IN THE ODD BAR OR TWO.
I saw him in Dublin in Vicar St. '99 or '00 and for the encore he came out in a Hugh Heffner inspired long elaborately decorated dressing gown and said, "I was just about to have my bath" And proceeded to play a fantastic version of Sleepwalk... the guy is a legend and up there with the best
This was obviously shot by someone who plays the guitar! Thanks! It's fun to watch and see the magic of Brian's fingers... and attempt to emulate. hahahaha. Great video
PLAY your guitars in tribute, my good man! This is outstanding footage. It takes a steady hand in that environment, well done! I'm gonna steal at least "A" lick from this solo, however long THAT'LL take LOL Very inspiring footage from one of modern guitar's greatest achievers
@RogerjTurner I seriously think Mr. Setzer is genuinely more talented than most of those more famous guys. It makes their playing seem a little 2-dimnesional. In my opinion, Setzer is more experimental than Hendrix (not expecting many to agree with me), and without using any effects, just through choice of notes and straightfoward playing on a Gretsch with some beautiful Bigsby work. It's all in his voicings, harmonies, mixing of influences, rhythms, etc.
Brian Setzer has tone and style all his own. You can instantly recognize his playing anytime you hear it. An icon.
It's not just the skill of the man. Do you know anyone else who enjoys playing his guitar as much as Brian? Wonderful!

I agree he is awesome.
The most underrated guitarist in the world, simply up there with the best FANTASTIC
He is not underrated by any means. A golbally well known and recognized artist.
Not underrated at all
Wow! His training in jazz really helps him a lot. Brilliant player.
I know a great many guitarists, from rockabilly to rock to metal to jazz, and he is among my top 3 of all time. Extremely underrated.

He effortlessly integrates more complexity into a single song than most guitarists would have in a whole set...
I've known this for a long time, but...damn...he's a such a great guitar player...and his beautiful Gretsch guitar sound...fit him and his style perfectly!

One of Setzer's best performances! Brilliant man!

I could not agree more. For the life I can not figure why he is not more recognized for what he is. Brilliant palyer.
Chord vocabulary off the charts!! The original song only has about 5 chords in it.
I was there about 25 feet away from him. Seriously impressive playing...and it just kept going.
The green theme was because of it being his first gig in Ireland, btw.
I was too 😊
The master Craftsman showing how freaking awesome he can make that tune sound 👍

I can tell this was shot by a guitar player. This is awesome!!!
I'm amazed at the way he changes from using the pick then goes to finger style while holding the pick between his thumb and forefinger and back again, he even flicks the pick up switch and does it !
Truly amazing!
Clicked because of the guitar in the thumbnail. Stunner.
I usually don't like flashy guitar playing but I've always liked what he does.
Fantastic !!! Love the Setzer

KeironP1 ...fuck Rolling Stone ....ignorant SOBs ....
agreed 100%. They can't even put him in the bottom 10 at least? Severely underrated, underappreciated.
Rolling Stone ...fake news
As much as I love Joan Jett and Ace Frehley, who are important in their own way, they simply are not in the league as Brian.....and yet he doesn't make their list. The man is singlehandedly keeping rockabilly alive.
Some lovely touches. Really enjoyed the playing.

Thanks for posting this video, mr. Setzer is great as always, and it helped a lot of us musician folks here to actually see how it's done and learn.
Isn't he the true (though he came late) king of rockabilly guitar? He mixes scotty moore, cliff gallup, carl perkins and some other of those early heroes into one wonderful style of playing, just awesome!
