    My college professor made us make the sword and use your video as an introduction to the software without any other information or guidance. You seem like a pretty nice dude and I just wanted to let you know that this is apparently in some college class curriculum now and this was literally the best tutorial that terrible teacher showed us since he didn't know anything about the subject, I was thankful for your guidance and nice commentary.

    This is a great tutorial! Could you do one where you unwrap and texture it as well? Unwrapping in 3Ds is a mess, would be awesome if you did a tutorial on that

    Nice tutorial! (Also yes, the idea of the groove being to redirect blood is a misconception. It's all about weight and reinforcement.)

    Hello, I see some of you commenting that the tutorial is too difficult and does not explain absolutely everything about the program. If you are having these issues, then perhaps consider gaining an education on the basic interface mechanics of 3ds Max. This is a basic tutorial on creating a 3d sword, it is not a beginner tutorial on how to make and render your first 3d cube. This, is not intended for beginners who just downloaded the program. Thanks! If you do, however, understand the most basic mechanics of the 3ds interface, then you are more than capable of learning from this video. Thank's for watching!

    The groove is called the "fuller" and it's used to reduce blade weight without sacrificing strength.

    It was a pretty decent tutorial but I have some remarks on the sword itself. That groove you were talking about is called a fuller. The basic shape of the blade wasn't bad, it feels like by the appearance to be a hybrid between slashing and thrusting which is acceptable however you should have applied a distal taper to the blade. A distal taper is part of the blade geometry where the blade is thicker (in thickness not width) towards the guard and it gradually grows thinner towards the tip of the blade. Other than that the blade looks pretty nice, not too fancy but still appealing, too bad other game companies go over the top with their blades.

      You realize this is a tutorial (with emphasis on the word tutorial) that shows you how to start creating a basic sword right? Not a video on "How to create the best looking sword". So looks are completely irrelevant in this type of video. It's up to the viewer to take this information and go further with it.
      I do agree with you though, that most gaming companies go over the top with their designs of swords. That's one reason why I love CD Project Red (specifically the Witcher series). Their sword designs are realistic, simple, yet still amazing to use and look at. :)

    at the base of Guard where you extruded the square instead You could you use the tool 'merge shape'.. you only need to create a circle and tool ask you to pick the shape and where you want it to apply... That's it. I recently came to know about this. It makes your workflow quite faster.

    Its a fuller and its not for blood to come out but to stop suction from stopping you from pulling out the sword

    Yeah, fast and easy? For beginners? I don't understand what it is with the 3D modeling community. Beginner does not mean hobby level of understanding. I have no idea how to use this piece of software, and you not explaining every little step does nothing for me. Like at the 3:20 mark, that little thing you did creating a new segment, how the hell do you do that? There's no visible indication of what you are doing, thus I can only assume you do not know how to dictate your actions. You did that thing earlier in the video, yet you didn't explain it then.
    I swear to god, if you're going to make a tutorial EXPLAIN WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Jesus.

    • @empirewilddog
      @empirewilddog 7 років тому

      Alright take a deep Breath. A segment in 3D is Segs. that it. When you create a box or something like that. go to "Parameter" it under the Length, Widths and Height. or in this case. Click on the Object and go to Modify and it should be there at the bottom. No need to get angry.There are many way to find things like a google on Segment in 3D Max. that it. or ask someone in this video comment Or ask the creator of this video but Nicely.

    • @xxxxxxxxxxxxx971
      @xxxxxxxxxxxxx971 7 років тому

      make sure you've changed it to editable poly and select vertices on modify tab.select long vertical lines all around the object (upper one) or u can just select two then click on ring on the modify tab, this selects those vertical lines then go to small box on the right to connect and move it up. this creates new segments

      it works both ways. the videos im watching that are used for the gaming course over explain everything. 2 min video ends up being over an hour. ALL of these beginner tutorials assume you have had some experience with box modelling. what you are looking for is a beginner guide to 3ds max. for me, he is over explaining things.

    • @CaballeroDeOtono

      I think you think that modeling in 3D is learned in four days. The tutorial you have to watch first, it is the interface program use. And then, start to learn to modeling.
