@@pernels.thyseldew2157 muratic acid is some corrosive stuff. It will take your breath away. Even diluted way down it is still very corrosive. I made a similar mistake trying to clean a motorcycle fuel tank. Diluted the acid, sloshed it around for just a few minutes. Poured it out and tried to use a soda solution to neutralize it. It flash rusted almost immediately and I gave up and ended up buying a new tank for $700!!! Muratic acid is for cleaning morter off of brick only!
the coating that they put on the floor from factory is for Sound Dampening the car, you can use Rockville Rockmat for that. what happens is that any rock or anything that touch the metal while you drive is going to make a sound that is annoying, especially if the car sit low.

It's called "learning". No big issue. In 25 years you'll be a master mechanic. No one is good at anything with out practice and mistakes. Also, try turning down the wire speed and voltage when welding thin sheet metal. I use to weld 12Ga doors. Those welds could be much cleaner. Again, you're learning so it's all good. Keep up the good work my dude. Do not take the negative comments to heart.
Good call on showing the mistake on camera. The more mistakes, the more you grow. For the car, maybe add sound deadening to the floor, doors and ceiling, put an automatic transmission in and have yourself a nice cruiser

Better that this primer failure occurred BEFORE you got the final paint and clear! Hope all that acid is taken off this time before priming. I hope you're enjoying the build of this car as much as we, the audience, are.
You should use dynamat in the interior. It insulates the floor from heat and noise. I use KBS rust seal on frames and the bottom of my cars. Drys hard. You can spray or brush it. You should really wear a respirator spraying that primer. Especially epoxy primer. That shit will destroy your lungs. Thanks Ben hood video!

Just keep in mind how lucky you are this issue came up now and not when the whole car is together and painted. In the future I would epoxy prime anything you have blasted as soon as possible.
I was wondering if not neutralizing the acid would come back to bite you. That sucks BUT. You are fixing it and now you know. :-). We all learn lessons the hard way, I love the fact that you just just do stuff and learn the lessons. I love the content.
Everywhere that acid got down into cracks and gaps will continue to rust even after sand blasting since the blasting can't get it out. Also, using that Evaporust under paint is a big mistake. Evaporust is not the same as rust converter or self-etching primer. Evaporust must be rinsed off completely before priming. I would spray Rust-Oleum Automotive 248659 Rust Reformer into every crack and gap in this car before priming. Too late now it seems.

Acid dipping, even with a neutralization bath afterwards will still leave you chasing rust. I have not seen a rust converter product I would trust for a restoration. Have you ever experimented with electrolysis? I have seen decent results with the process on small parts.

Its like a primer after it hardens so best to paint or seam seal over it. Sprayway uses a brush to get it into nooks and crannies. I use a syringe with a utility needle to squirt it into places. I've done electrolysis on old rusty cast iron pans. Doing anything much larger would be on an industrial scale, not DIY, I would think.

The seams are also about impossible to know if you have gotten well treated as well. I used electrolysis on a pedal set and emergency brake assembly once just to try and was surprised by the results. Interested to hear any other products you have had good results with. Chasing rust in seams of an early bronco myself.

The cowl is probaly just as rusted inside. Stick a borescope inside and take a look. Paint on the outside of the front fenders needs to have a hardner to be durable against rock chips and road debris.

The lower cowl area is just one. The acid most likely ran into the frame rails as well as into the seams that is hard to, if not impossible to blast or neutralize.
@@colliecollie6822 exactly what I was thinking. If I remember right he didn't coat the underside of the cowl very well and it still had a little surface rust from sitting outside. I worked in a machine shop and the fumes from a bottle of muriatic acid left open overnight caused our entire steel rack to rust even though the liquid never touched most of it.
wow do you plan on putting a truck trans in the car , you really need to mount the engine and trans in the car then build the transmission tunnel , i think you are going to have a huge space between the body and trans the way you built the tunnel

SMH. Also, that cowl is going to rust away inside too. You've got to slow down, do your homework, and learn to do things right the first time. It doesn't have to be this way.
Why You paint some places with paint in cans, not just buy normal paint and put it in spray gun.? Thats sucks, specially when You need paint much. And I dont know how to say, my english is not perfect, but on my car all what You just paint I will spray with seam sealer, or even better was some other stuff, when its dry its much harder, and more safe for new rust.! I am slowlly build and fully restore my e36 Wagon, and that will be my Drift type car, not street legal. And I am from Latvia, close to Ukraine. :(

A car rotisserie would have made the blasting and priming/painting easier, but things are looking great! Are you going to Dynomat the interior? I think the noise reduction will make the car more enjoyable to drive.
The issue is not what you can see, it's what you can't. Even the least bit of over spray that may have fallen through the cowl will continue to rust the metal. Acid most likely ran into crevices and/or frame rails and will continue to react. Rinsing with water only dilutes the acid. Acid has to be neutralized. This is why it is not a good idea to acid dip car bodies even with dipping them in neutralization baths after. The acid will still get caught in crevices and leak out over time. Parts and pieces do well being dipped as the surfaces can get completely neutralized, even truck or vehicle frames sometimes. But bodies with seams have to many crevices that are hard to impossible to totally neutralize.
The acid you sprayed around will definitely still be present in seams and inside the cowl and it will only be a matter of days before you see it again...if I were you Ben I'd continue to take your medicine and admit to the errors and listen to the fine folk on here that continue to offer their advice! It may be hard to accept and some are a little rude but these people have taken the time to watch, subscribe and like your vids and than write a comment only for you to mock them? I really enjoy your builds on fixing panel and frame damaged cars as you truly have a gift but the lack of planing and cutting and shutting of work in this build has me cringing at times. I still hope this build turns out for the best though....goodluck with it.
Actually its kind of a lucky accident because after having to have it reblasted you've now epoxy primed it immediately unlike last time. So now its starting out as rust free.
I really think you dhould put the sound proofing back into the cabin of the car. Now is the time to fo it. Also always use eye protection when spaying muratic acid. It will burn a hole in your eye fast.

Use a product like por15 metal prep next time and follow the directions on the container.

@@13christbane I see reading comprehension is hard. He got to blast the interior and all of the added stuff in the engine bay + new rear he put on that didn’t get sandblasted the first time. Now it’s all equally treated. Stop taking things so seriously.
Lizard skin is a good undercoating and sound deadening that you can line your floor pans in.

You could fit a 5 speed Lenco out of a Pro Stock under that housing.
The issue is not what you can see, it's what you can't. Even the least bit of over spray that may have fallen through the cowl will continue to rust the metal. Acid most likely ran into crevices and/or frame rails and will continue to react. Rinsing with water only dilutes the acid. Acid has to be neutralized. This is why it is not a good idea to acid dip car bodies even with dipping them in neutralization baths after. The acid will still get caught in crevices and leak out over time. Parts and pieces do well being dipped as the surfaces can get completely neutralized, even truck or vehicle frames sometimes. But bodies with seams have to many crevices that are hard to impossible to totally neutralize.
The acid you sprayed around will definitely still be present in seams and inside the cowl and it will only be a matter of days before you see it again...if I were you Ben I'd continue to take your medicine and admit to the errors and listen to the fine folk on here that continue to offer their advice! It may be hard to accept and some are a little rude but these people have taken the time to watch, subscribe and like your vids and than write a comment only for you to mock them?
I really enjoy your builds on fixing panel and frame damaged cars as you truly have a gift but the lack of planing and cutting and shutting of work in this build has me cringing at times.
I still hope this build turns out for the best though....goodluck with it.
Actually its kind of a lucky accident because after having to have it reblasted you've now epoxy primed it immediately unlike last time. So now its starting out as rust free.
I really think you dhould put the sound proofing back into the cabin of the car. Now is the time to fo it.
Also always use eye protection when spaying muratic acid. It will burn a hole in your eye fast.

@@Vtuned Seems pointlessly high though. The lower and tighter to the trans the better....within reason. That way you have more options for height later
