  • Destiny 2: Forsaken is Bungie's biggest roll of the dice yet, hoping to salvage their reputation after the disappointing launch of Destiny 2. I've played over 100 hours of the expansion thus far- this is what I think.

Skill Up I think adding masterworks cores to infusion wasn’t a bad idea because know u have to think about what you infuse. Tru there was times i wanted to use a certain weapon but i enjoyed alot of the new one I probably would hv avoided. This will suck for casual players tho.

+Skill Up -- okay, *only* 3 minutes in, I am going out on a limb here because I've followed your reviews long enough to know you *truly* are objective, not a shill as some "professional" gaming websites or addicted UA-camr "Crackstiny" fanboys... I think *this* is going to be again one of the most honest reviews of Destiny's annual Fall sequel/expansion (new viewers, please do see Skill Up's review of "vanilla" Destiny 2, which was *brutal* in its honesty -- but then again, that *was* a crap product, despite many fanboys going into denial...)

Interestingly enough, I feel it translates just as well to BfA. The new WoW expansion is a step back in every regard but it sold incredibly well. Maybe a lot of new players, but veterans are leaving or at least complaining a lot about so little complexity and content.

    • @RED_Theory038
      @RED_Theory038 6 років тому +1

That's what I'm feeling too. Been playing since Wrath and slowly but surely, the game keeps changing for the worst. WoD was its absolute low point, and BfA the more I think about it is looking like another WoD. I haven't even got the will to level a single character to max yet. The game just doesn't feel fun to play anymore and a large part of it is in its class design being so barebones and boring.

Yeah definitely agree, they brought over enough systems from Legion (like D1 to D2) that the initial feel for the game and content was good but it wasn't until you have a longer and more in depth appreciation for the systems where you realize how shallow some of it is or that overall it feels unrewarding.

I’m happy that the game is in a great spot, but there’s three lessons Bungie could’ve learned from this. That could affect the future
1.) Ok, when D3 launches let’s actually make the game good at launch with good, fun, unique content
2.) when D3 launches let’s have 1 new unique gamemode type, like Gambit, and about 25% more content then D2 launch

And pay more attention to why Destiny was a thing in the first place. Pay attention to the little details on why people buy a MMORPG Loot and shoot base game.

Everything that was on launch for D2 were things that D1 players complained for. It has more to do with the fact that half the time the player base don't even know what they want from the game, rather than incompetency on the dev's part.

Finally a review that gives me all the relevant information I was looking for. I was waiting for a review that would convince me it's worth buying Forsaken, but all reviews so far were lackluster on information beyond the campaign...
Now I know all I need to know. It seems worth buying, but ultimately I decide against it. At this point I just don't feel like supporting Bungie anymore for getting it wrong at first again, just to fix shit 1 year down the line for almost triple the prize of the original game...I quit with CoO, cause it felt exactly like the shit they pulled with D1 once again...and now I'm just fed up. I'd rather spend my money on games where the devs get it right from the start, or at least don't expect me to pay triple just to finally get an enjoyable experience...I'm done with Destiny for good, no sequels for me, same when D3 comes...just not interested anymore.
But a huge thank you to Skill Up to finally give me a review on Forsaken that had all the info I was looking for.

Wow, this is almost exactly how I feel about it. I would like to play some after Skillies review (which was awesome btw!), but another full priced game on top of the core game to finally play a good game is absurd. If Bungee would get their shit together and let us purchase all together for the current price, they would win back way more players imo (including me).

@@adb24850 I said triple the prize of the original as the overall price, not additional. Having just CoO makes it even worse btw, cause the PS Store won't let you buy the discounted Season Pass, which was cheaper than a single DLC and then on top Forsaken, when you can get the whole bundle for 60 bucks. Bungie is basically punishing everyone who was dumb enough to buy the base game.

Very true, Parker. Let us, also, not forget the Eurogamer interview, with Luke Wilson, where he said that if Bungie brought out new emotes that people would be throwing money at the screen to get them. He knows how gullible and naive people are, because of the Bungie name attached to the game...so why not take advantage of that, right? I still say that too many people have Stockholm Syndrome (well a form of it), because no matter how many times the dev/publisher (Activision) lies and screws gamers over and over that people will just forgive them and continue to give them a pass and fork over more money for a fucking $40 expansion. It's sad that it took a year for Bungie to get Destiny 2 to a completed state...or to the level of Destiny 1.

My favorite weapon from Destiny 1 was Red Death. When I got this gun I knew it was my favorite exotic and I used it ALL the time.
Flash forward to Destiny 2 where Crimson has been introduced. I immediately recognized it and sought it out but gave up after months of grinding. Forsaken brought me back to the game and during a Scourge of the Past run I got an exotic world drop from a Servitor which was super awesome in itself...then I picked it up and it was Crimson. This blew my mind and that feeling reminded me of the good ol days of farming on Destiny 1. It was awesome. I then went on using Crimson all the time just like Red Death and earned a catalyst for it in crucible. Then a couple days ago I went and got an ornament for Crimson from Tess Everis, completing my Crimson.
I'm happy I came back to Destiny.

I'd like to say my experience with destiny 1 and how it shaped me, when I started playing it was this world of wonder when forsaken king dropped and the community was at its peak. I joined this clan who were international and we would stay up till 4am to play together with our American clan members. We made a ton of friends and we stuck by talking even years later playing other games. These people helped me through the hardest times and helped me recover from personal issues. I used to be quite a loner and didn't do much outside of work, these guys made this world to life. More than the mechanics that define destiny the community defines it, the wonderful men and women who play this game start clans and connect with people. Due to the sad server state with Destiny 2 I couldn't play with these people with then led me to stopping. However I am grateful for all the hilarious memories we had playing in the first game, the nervousness when playing trials together, the hillarity of everyone dying and one player carrying the team till all of us could respawn, the first time playing a raid in any game, the first exotic engram drop. If I had to say anything that would 100% make this game from a good game to a great game is the community, the community defines and is a testament to all people playing, sharing and working towards a goal, the goal for endgame loot and the fashion in the end. Not sure if anyone will read this, but share your experiences if you like.

Unfortunately for me, I just cannot justify the purchase of this expansion. I don't go in for the whole Bungie hurt me, I'll never trust them again schtick. They owe me nothing and I owe them nothing. We weren't in a personal relationship, there is nothing for them to repair for me to get back in bed with them.
It's just the price of entering this expansion which will never sit right with me. It is money gouging at best and extortionate at worst. It's up there with loot boxes as something that I will never contribute to.
Good work on bringing Destiny 2 back to Destiny 1's level of potential engagement but the admission price is just not worth it.

@COUEPATROOPA you're willing to spend almost the price of a full game on an expansion?... even if you enjoyed it I find that ridiculous. Your principles are fallible. This expansion isn't even half of the content d2 dropped with. You saying you enjoyed it making it worth the price of more than half of a full price game is what is enabling the devs to the the same shit expansion after expansion. D1 did the same thing with a series of shitty expansion and one overpriced expansion which somehow redeems the whole game. And here are people like you enabling the same cycle of bullshit. This isnt redemption for D2 nor is that actually worth that price tag. Get them to stop this crap and focus on actually making something good from the get go and not recycling pre-launch development as dlc.

I picked up Destiny 2 shortly after release. I enjoyed myself, but got tired of it. Once Forsaken dropped, a friend of mine- who's a Destiny super fan- told me that "Destiny was great again". and I didn't know what he meant by that. From the moment I dropped back in, I felt like this was what I should have been playing all along. Especially the part where you can have shotguns and snipers not in heavy slot. Seriously, that completely changed everything for me, lol. I was taking another break from Destiny, but after watching this... well, it's back to the last city for me.

If SWBF2 is any indication of what is to come, the free dlc might as well not even exist. Only AAA title that did free dlc right was Titanfall 2. And objectively speaking, designing a map for a game like Battlefield takes much more time than for a game like TF. The problem with both Destiny 1 and 2 is that the development of these games was reset just one year before the release of these games.
Destiny 1 was to be a more linear, story-driven game but they completely reworked it into a non-linear game that became vanilla D1.
Destiny 2 started development around when The Taken King came out and the initial goal was to have all the existing worlds and build on top of that with some new locations, but a year in they decided to scrap that and just build completely new worlds, and rework they game to become more mainstream.
Als, there was very little communication and merging in of features added to D1 from the “live team” over to de D2 team, which is why many improvements that had been made to D1 after launch were never implemented in D2 at launch.
I assume Destiny 3 development is already well underway by now (probably led by the D2 team led by Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy).
I have heard that they have improved communication between teams so they’ll probably not make the same mistakes again.
Third time is a charm, right?

Bungee please, I’ve put hundreds of hours into Destiny 1 and now you are destroying your longtime fans even more with this repeat of an old problem. I know that Bungee can’t do a whole lot more for old fans now with D2 but I hope for a better company in the future. That was my experience with D1 for sure. I did not buy the game until a short time after TTK released .

After my experience with D1 I decided to take a wait and see approach for D2.
      I am glad I did.
D2 did nothing to expand on D1.
I was hoping and expecting it to work towards the early development promises of D1.
Open world environments and stuff like that.
Once I realized D2 was going to be D1.5 at best, I decided to take a hard pass on D2.

@Eric Storm: Yes, but Destiny has shown an actual *pattern* with doing the *exact* same thing with a sequel. Those other series have not (yet). But yes, it would be wise to learn from what Destiny has done and don't be an idiot and pre-order stuff due to hype. (Also, though not as criminal as the D2 ghost town of content, *many* games follow this basic model by releasing a 'GOTY/Complete Edition' one year later with all the DLC (in other words, all content.) So actually it's a pretty common practice with many game companies nowadays.

    • @darkwyve
      @darkwyve 6 років тому +2

@Raifsevrence: Yeah, my comment is written in humorous sarcasm, but laced with complete truth. Of course Bungie isn't exclusive in this basic practice, as it's a pretty common method to release a 'GOTY/Complete' edition with all DLC a year later for many games. The difference is many games feel like a fairly complete experience, and with the GOTY/Complete editions it just feels like an extended more filled out experience, unlike D1/D2, which felt shallow and empty, more like half a game, wherein the DLC made it complete, not just extended the experience.
