      Can you consider the one wheel as a work vehicle and get a tax write off?

      Consider getting the "SmallRig Cold Shoe Extension 2044" for your cage. Then you can mount your mic on the top right (seen from the back) or the left or right side of the camera. I have mounted my 2044 on the left side so I can also easily mount a mic when using a gimbal.

      Dunna Did It I agree the A6400 is the best choice right now in the crop sensor models from Sony. The same color profile as A7iii is awesome. The flip up screen is a plus, unlimited record time, and the new processor that deals with the overheating. I almost got one over the A7iii, but I joined the Full Frame Hype train.

    I rarely watch videos this long, but this was a really nice run down with some cool breaks and all in the vlogging style. Nice! I didn’t know about the white balance lock. For me that is a game changer! Having white balance change during a take looks cheap, at the same time, having to sit manually for each scene is a nuisance. This will improve video quality and save time. Still, I will wait for the a 6500 upgrade and keep my a6500 for now

    • @dunnadidit

      Thanks for the kind words Jai! I’m glad you liked the video. That AWB lock is definitely a killer feature, I think the first time I saw that was on a fuji camera so I’m happy to see that Sony is starting to add it!

    I really like that one-wheel. I am an old guy with a lot of skateboard in my history. In Saigon it would be impossible to ride one of these anywhere useful because of the condition of the roads and sidewalks. You can't hardly walk on the sidewalks, much less ride a one-wheel. The streets are buzzing with motorbikes ... you competition on a one-wheel. Pretty good chances of getting hit.
    I am seriously looking t the 6400. I use a a pair of 5100's now, both live on gimbals. Thinking that the 5400 might be a reasonable upgrade. Good Show!!!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 років тому +1

      Oh man that’s tough! Even though I’d like to say the onewheel could probably handle th terrain, it sounds like the traffic would make it not a very fun experience.
      I think the a6400 is the PERFECT upgrade from the a5100, if you’re used to that flip screen but want some new features like the mic jack and 4k, this is the way to go!

    If you're having trouble on a hill at all, use the "Elevated" shaping mode. It will lift the nose, giving you more clearance, and also allows for less dip down for acceleration. Then when you make it atop the hill, put it back on whatever mode you had before.
    Enjoy the Onewheel!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 років тому +2

      Thanks for the tip! I’ve been using a custom shape and love it but I suppose if I know I’m about to do a hill I can get off and take 3 seconds to change it 😉

    • @TheBoardGarage
      @TheBoardGarage 5 років тому +1

      @@dunnadidit Indeed. It's really only for the steeper hills, because the wheel has to deal with both the resistance of the slope itself, and then the limitation of the clearance caused by the angle. I go up a long, fairly unreasonable hill on my homeward commute, and while I don't accelerate or go fast upwards, it hasn't ever failed at taking it.
      It'll take a bit of practice, but I'm sure it can handle it when you get a feel for that slope.
      Cheers man, big fan!

    Regarding the A6500.... try the updated remote control app to android sony app. Let's you control everything and has a much better screen on the phone to live preview than the little in body camera screen. Throw on a small little hot shoe mount and you're good to go.
    I throw on an old android S4 on top of the a6500 when needed and you have a great monitor. Even has a touch to focus and setting changing features.

    • @MaximRick
      @MaximRick 5 років тому +1

      Also go into setting and just turn off the on body screen all together while running that set up and you use even less power from the battery since the screen is a huge battery drainer on any device.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 років тому +2

      I’ve definitely used the a6500 with the app, it’s much better than the experience with the a6400. The only downside is you can’t have picture profiles when recording video(from my experience anyway) whereas the a6400 doesn’t turn off that function when using the remote. That’s a great call on disabling the screen for battery life though.

  • @joespn18

    Love these videos! So for Vlogging, a6400 with sigma 16 1.4 isn't recommended, but is it doable for other handheld type of video? And 18 105 seems great for video too, but the 18 135 come as a kit lens, so it would a cheaper alternative, do you agree?

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 років тому +2

      Yup! I pretty much agree with everything in this thread lol. I’ve used the 16mm for a few handheld shots and it works if you’re super careful, but if you’re run and gun and don’t have time to be super careful, it’s not recommended. The 18-105 if my go to for a few reasons and I highly recommend it! The 18-135 issue is the changing aperture throughout the zoom range, so if you zoom, it changes exposure. But still should do the trick!

      Good catch violet! I actually had some text pop up on the screen that addresses that a bit. Apparently when I’m going 20km/h on a onewheel against the wind, it’s too much wind even with a wind filter on my mic. It bugged me so much I nearly didn’t release the video 🤦🏻‍♂️ . I enjoy my 6400 for sure. I’ve done some vlogging on it but I’ve really moved over to my hero 7 for the vlogging video. The stabilization is awesome and with external audio it puts it together nicely. I use the 6400 for photos, some b roll, and sitting shots. Great review though, the wind was a killer. I also enjoy the Sony 10-18 Lens when I vlog with it.

      Nice! I actually bought a hero 7 black to do instagram vlogs but couldn't stand the distortion even in linear mode so I returned it lol. Gonna give it another crack with the Osmo Action here though I think. And yeah, that wind was tough. Even with the wind screen on, going 20km/h on a Onewheel just creates too much wind sneaking into the back of the mic i guess 🤷‍♂️

    If you look at the four corners of the footage there's a very small vignette, do you think it's because of the alter filter mount? I was looking to get one but wasn't sure about how it holds up with that magnetic lock. I don't mind it as we can just crop in slightly to fix but for me i think it's worth reconsidering the purchase if it has slight issues like that.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 років тому +1

      Hey! I actually addressed that in some text in the video, it’s not the RFS causing that, it’s the fact that I had to use a step up ring for it. The step up ring & the RFS made the filter too far away from the lens... hence the vignette. But if you get the RFS+ as your step up or if you just have the right size for your lens and filter then they work great! I have an RFS+ 67-77mm that I use on my 16mm f1.4 sigma lens and it works flawlessly!

    Having a "Vlogging camera" without ibis and with a shitty flip up solution i dont think constitutes as a vlogging camera.
    * Move the hotshoe to the left or right (or make a grip which does the same, why not throw it into a battery grip?)
    * Make the flip up display rise above the evf position.
    * IBIS everything!
    SMH
    Its not like the vlogging scene is new either. How hard can it be to just go all out with a product aimed straight at a niche market?!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 років тому

      I would argue that most cameras that people consider “vlogging cameras” or that people have been using as vlogging cameras for years don’t have ibis. Don’t get me wrong... I LOVE ibis, and I think it would be a super helpful addition, but to count a camera out of the vlogging category just for ibis seems unreasonable.
      *There are options that move the hot shoe... I showed one in my video but I have an even simpler new one that I left a link in the description to.
      *i agree that the flip screen could be higher, I mentioned that it was still a bit covered... especially by my cage
      *i already talked about this above.
      I do believe there’s a lot more that goes into making a camera than most consumers know. But even that being said, comparatively to what else is out there in the vlogging niche. This holds its own no problem.
      What would you say is your ideal vlogging camera right now?

  • @Jawmsie
    @Jawmsie 5 років тому +1

    This was a really solid review. I've been thinking a lot about getting myself a new BTS camera for some of the narrative work that I do. This camera is definitely a contender. That said, since the person operating it won't be doing a vlog, one of the models with IBIS might be the better call. Thanks for the insight!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 років тому

      Glad you liked it James! I totally agree with you that this would be good for some BTS stuff but you’re right that it’s a tough call if you don’t need that flip screen. I think if you’re using it with oss lenses, then this is still the better choice, but the lack of ibis does slightly limit some situations.

      Honestly id go for a Fuji xt1 or xt2. You get a pro level APS-C camera with proper weather sealing, great jpeg's etc for about the same money (second hand an xt-1 goes for about 300 or 350 with a battery grip). Including 8fps and an active lens lineup.
      I was in your shoes as well a year ago and i can honestly say that the glass is JUST as important as the camera body, if not more so.
      (Oh and the xt1 sucks at video sadly, the xt2 is great however and goes for about 600 second hand, that paired with a brand new good prime or like-prime zoom you'll get a great system for very little money).

    One wheel ~ I'm sold! 😂

  • @stevekdigitalworx
    @stevekdigitalworx 5 років тому +1

    It's not a Monday! Or my birthday! But there's a Dunna video! (That for the second week in a row, I got no YT notification).
    Regarding the OneWheel, one thing I've always wanted to know, if it starts going down a hill and you need to stop quick-ish, is that possible or are you going to have to bail? Like if a car pulls out or somebody opens a door on you?
    And for the a6400, if you already own an a6500 and you're a photographer first and vlogger eventually/maybe, is it worth trading in the 6500 for a 6400, or is the difference between the 2 for stills not significant enough?
    Thanks, boss!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 років тому

      Yay for bonus videos... boo for lack of notifications! I’m glad you found it regardless!
      Re: OneWheel, you can stop fairly quick, going down hill it seems like the brakes can only work so hard but they seem to do a pretty good job!
      Re: a6500 to a6400. That’s a tough question, I bought the a6400 knowing I would be keeping at least one a6500. But if you feel like you could benefit from the upgraded autofocus, that would be your main benefit I think.

    I love Sony cameras, in fact I own 2 of those ( a6300 & a7III ) but unfortunately I don't see a point of a camera that gives you some features and take others. away. A6400 for me is not a step up but a step aside... if not down.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  5 років тому +2

      I think the number says it all. A6400 is an upgrade from the a6300. That’s all it was intended to be I believe. I vaguely remember someone from Sony saying that this wasn’t intended to be an upgrade from the a6500 at all. It was mostly that people were hoping for that, but Sony was just filling out the middle of their lineup.

    • @MarceloGori
      @MarceloGori 5 років тому +1

      .and I am totally agree with you!!! That was just my humble opinion about it. What I mean maybe is they are all wonderful tools and if I had none maybe price wise would weight. The a6300 is fine and a6500 some good improved features such as image stabilization etc..
      This "gap" that Sony was trying to fill maybe to narrow but again, who am I to compare it once: I've being following you from long time by your advices not by your beautiful blue eyes... kkkkk
