Guys let's really help Dave out here, we can do that by:
1.) Watching the entire video, even if it's just in the background (but it's totally worth watching duhhhh).
2.) Liking the video
3.) Putting a comment in the video.
All of this will help drive Dave's channel ranking! It takes 2 seconds to do these!
Thanks for the support!
Done
You're right man. Going to support old Dave and Fred in their endeavors. They have so much knowledge, it's great having more videos from them. And they need to do some sweet merch! Dirthead stickers and snapbacks!
What a guy, honestly
i will do just that
Man, motortrend is done and you are building rigs with a multitool. Just joking, hope you and Fred kill it on youtube. You both deserve all of the success.
I must use that thing 236784 times a day
Dear Dirt Head Dave...my heart is truly broken. Me and my daughter loved watching u and Fred at night before bed. Hands down the best show to date. Period. Gonna miss it for sure. Please keep the UA-cam channel going. Rock on bro.
Those were the stories I loved to hear. I’m pretty bummed ded Is gone too. It was a special beast
Gets safety glasses to cut a notch in the nut he's holding with his bare hand...premium dirthead content 😄. So glad you're still giving us a dose of dirthead dave!
I try to keep it just sketch enough
All the best to you and Fred
Thank you
Sad about dirt everyday but kinda cool to get more content from you now. Keep up the great work!
Thank you
Keep it up, Dave! Can't wait for shirts and hats and stuff
I really like the fact that you and Fred have usually had the mindset of small and lighter makes a better rig that big with a bunch of horsepower.
Me too. Heavy and horsepower just breaks stuff
You're killing it Dave
MT's loss,
Your fans' gain!
...time for swag???
Working on it. Thanks
Cool Dakota! Good idea adding the drain plug 👏
I like the “Thank you for watching me work on my truck” lol. Thank you for taking the time to edit and post the video!
It’s pretty fun
You and Fred get some merch. Whole army of people want to support you.
Sad to see dirt everyday was canceled but look forward to see whats coming on youtube. Always impressed by your fabrication skills and tips.
Thanks . I’m looking forward to what’s next too
You and Fred were my two favorite host on mt, Keep up the great work.
Thank you
Get it Dave !!!!! Please don’t stop making content always great watching and learning.
Thanks for watching
Thanks Dave for the tip. I have been replacing the pans with one with a drain when I do the filter the first time. But they have been harder to find with a good price. The intro music brings me back to the late 80's. Reminds me of the all nighters trying to get rig ready for the weekend. Then taking a shower and out the door for the day job, witch was more wrenching. Except it was all imports, did that for almost 8 years.
Sounds like you know the routine
Canceled my motortrend account when I found out they were not renewing y’all. Glad to see you on UA-cam.
Thanks for finding me here
You can also use a castellated nut and invert it inside the pan. Just weld it on 2 sides. When I did mine I welded the nut to the outside of the pan, it hangs down a little lower but worked fine.
I actually mentioned that as I was doing
It , but cut that part so I wouldn’t confuse people
One issue with a castle nut is it might not support the pan sheet metal around the sealing washer leading to a slight drip.
Dave, loved watching you and Fred on DED. Glad you're still working on stuff on your UA-cam channel. I have learned a lot watching you over the years. Subscribed.
Thanks for following along
gonna miss dirt everyday.. glad your still out here hope see you and Fred on another adventure
We’ll get the band back together eventually
Keep the content coming Dave!
Still using up old stuff stored on my phone. Happy I can finally upload it
I'm not a 4x4 guy but I did like dirt everyday so I will be watching Yourself and Fred on UA-cam now!
We appreciate it
Dude, I like your style of videos. Good quality education with out all the major cuts and editing wizardry. Keep it up!
Thank you
Same! It’s actually better when it’s less polished. Those of us who build stuff love to see this bitty gritty stuff which would get cut on a more produced show.
Hope to see You and Fred back together again soon. Glad You are making content here. DED was one of the best shows on MT. I will watch whatever You have going on in Your shop, matter fact I am looking forward to it. 😁👌
Much appreciated. Thanks
This home brewed content is awesome. I love it.
Still pouting cause you and Fred didn’t come hang out at my shop when you were in Idaho Falls working on the Dodge, but I’ll get over it. Glad to see you hard at it. I’ll keep watching as long as you keep building!👍🏻
Sorry. We’ll get back there
Wish you and Fred the best continue on and we will all follow you guys on social media
Thanks! I appreciate you following along
Having one of those "why have I never thought of this" moments... Such a simple solution to an annoying problem. Thanks for sharing Dave!
Thanks for watching
Always been a fan of those trucks.
All of Dave's tips & tricks could be an entire show. Other than the uncontrollable laughter was one of the best parts of DED.
The laughs were great
Love ya Dave!. I'm here for every adventure.
Thank you
Dave keep the videos coming, you are a killer fabricator and I really enjoy learning things from you . Hope to see some videos of you driving your rigs . Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Cheers!
" Practically a Hellcat Gladiator" you end up putting that on a shirt I would buy it
I’ll put it on my list
Dirt heads for life! 😂. Can’t wait to see what else you fall into.
I'm loving the videos Dave! Passing on your experience is going to be invaluable for a lot of folks
I appreciate that!
Always loved those trucks!!
The "handy dandy grinder" song 😆
It’s one of my favorites
PLIERS!!! Save your fingers, lol! Love the channel so far.
I am the pliers…. At least till I burn myself
You’re the man. Keep the content flowing brother. We’ll support the heck out of you all the way
Much appreciated
So excited to see the content you put out.
No time constraints from edits and such. We can hear all the technical information that was likely cut from DED.
Yep! Hopefully I don’t bore everyone with it all
Love your work man hopefully the dirt heads can still get together for some trail rides.
On a side note when you and Fred would start getting the giggles from your shinanigans it would crack my wife up every time was pretty funny!
Good times! We will be back at it soon enough
Love the uploads being in australia motortrend cut us off couldn’t see your shows so glad u guys are on UA-cam now
Thanks for sticking around
Love the videos. Will watch everyone you put out. Keep up the good work. Miss DED.
Thanks! I miss it too
So excited to see you and Fred on UA-cam. Huge loss for Motortrend. Wish you all the success in the world.
Thank you
I usually get two flanged nuts and weld the one upside down on the bottom of the pan to not trap any oil. But that’s a good idea with the notch never thought of that when doing it, now it makes me think a castle nut would be even better, then it would be slightly more up and protected.
Hey Dave, you have a fairly well developed shop, could you give us a tour and detail the things you like and don't like about it, along with what you would do differently if you started over from scratch on a new shop?
Yep. It’s in my list
I like the Dakota, I feel like they're really overlooked.
I like the idea of the Dakota. But In reality it was kind of a pile
I never understood why they didn’t put drain plugs on transmission pans. Some of the foreign models did (years ago) too easy I guess. And some of the domestic models had drain plugs on the converters, again years ago. I haven’t been under a late model car in quite a while. Thanks for sharing this idea. So simple and effective
I agree. Cars are just getting more and more disposable
Drill & tap a hole in a scrap (1"sq is fine) of 1/4" steel flat bar and weld it to the outside of the pan. Then fully TIG the pan-to-plate circle joint inside. That'll give your washer a bearing surface to seal against and allow you to completely drain fluid. Worked for me, anyway. Thanks again for keeping the dream alive here on YT for all of us!!!
Done that too in the past. Works good
I have installed the bulkhead drain fittings in transmission pans before to make less of a mess when changing the fluid and filter... but I never thought of draining and refilling to get more of the old fluid out of the converter! That's awesome! Thank you!
Thank you
Stoked to see you moving forward! Can't wait for is next and better phase!
Wonder where it’ll go?!
I had the same truck I bought for my wife she loved it. I drove a 97 Dakota with a completely built 318, got bored of that so I put Dana 60s underneath of it with a big Block 440. Blew a head gasket in 440 and dropped a 12v Cummins with a 5 speed and magnum doubler box hooked to a 205.
Sounds like a beast
Sad to see ded end! Love your work and hope to see your channel grow!
Me too. Thanks
Drag racing and muscle cars are my life but my escape.was the dirt and mountains.
Whenever I clicked on MT app no matter what I was supposed to watch DED got watched first good luck and hope to help anyway possible
Thanks! It was fun
I just happened across this video, despite being a subscriber, and it's awesome because I picked up a spare pan for my truck for $15 and plan on adding a drain plug soon!
Right on! Glad you got something out of the videos
Maaannn I’m loving the channel. Good luck Dave! By far in my top 5 car show host!
Thanks! It’ll get better and better
Sweet Dakota! My old work truck is a 95 Ram 5.9 Beater Supreme! I wouldn't mind a couple more videos on this little truck.
I will dig through my phone and see what else I have. Actually sold it about 6 months ago
Nice work Dave. Those are cool trucks that are often overlooked.
Hope to see you and Fred on Roadkill soon, in the meantime thanks for the UA-cam 👍
Really enjoy what you do Dave!!
Thank you
Thanks for the tip on the drain bolt nut slot... 🔥
Thanks for watching
Best truck ever, had one a long time ago and have always wanted to find another one.
Yours must have been nicer than mine
@@thedirtheadshed I couldn't complain had it for several years with no issues just light maintenance pretty reliable for me.
I use a drain plug for a Chevy transmission mainly because they are easy to get just about anywhere....and I carry a couple of spares just in case. And yes, notching the bottom of the nut actually works.
Yep. Many options to make this mod work. Thanks for watching
I had the same truck but red as my first truck. It was a beast.
Happy to get new Dirt Head Shed video notifications now! Go Dave!!
Thank you
Can’t wait to see what will come next
The dodge Dakota with the 5.9 such an underrated truck!
They are pretty darn good
Don't forget the skid plate when rock hopping. Snag point....lol
I’d get more creative on a crawler
So Glad you are doing your own content. I wish you and Fred success all the way from Australia!
Thanks for watching!! Glad I didn’t lose ya
@@thedirtheadshed Dave I’m in it, I enjoy watching what you do and learning new tricks.
Of all the MT shows DED was my favorite. I think it comes down to your personalities. You are both guys I would love to hang out with in the garage or on a trail. And importantly none of the over-produced "we are going to lose the shop" fake drama bullshit. Just two cool dudes.
We try to keep it simple and fun
Keep the vids coming!
I never thought about doing it that way. Pretty cool.
Thanks
I've done this and used a castle nut to allow that last bit of drainage. Great video!
Thanks
My favorite fabricator ever!!
Thanks!
Awesome video. An appropriate amount of time for the content and you kept the video moving quickly.
Thanks. I felt like it never got too boring
I love your video! So nice to see you again after MotorTrend went off...
Thanks for the support
Just saw a comment about swag.
Motortrend never made any super cool DED shirts. Let’s see some awesome Dirthead Shed swag.
Also, love the entry song man. Keep it up Dave!!!
On it
I had an 01 Durango!!! Sold it when the heater core went cause I’m lazy…. 😎
I sold this truck in the spring. I was tired of restoring and repairing it
thanks for making videos dave! we love you!!
no prob. im enjoying it. thanks
Awesome videos Dave, keep em coming! Love the fab tips
I will. Thanks
Thanks Dave.
I need to do this to my 80e next time the pan is off, it would make pan removal SO much more pleasant
Yeah. Stop that mystery drain.
Great video, keep them coming
This episode is better than anything on MT lately! You and Fred are going to knock it out of the park with whatever you guys do now and in the future. Love your channel!!
Thank you!
@@thedirtheadshed no Dave, thank YOU! Our family loved watching you and Freds antics and will continue to subscribe and watch you guys! Keep on keeping on with what you guys do. You guys have such a huge fan base and will continue to do so!! If you guys are able to make it back to the Southeast, we are more than happy to host y'all!! #mazdagrande 👀
It basically IS a MagnumGladiator but cooler.
A buddy SAS’d a radius armed d44 and 9” into one when we were 21ish and put 38’s on it. He beat that thing like it owed his grandma $$$ and it just took it. Was a great rig for playing in the snow and the muddy trails in WV…
Sounds like a hammer of a rig
Love what you do! Keep up the great work
Thank you Dave!!!!! Ded and ded extra were amazing!!! I love that you kept your job, and your perspective, "at least publicly" while you were a tv personality. Your kindness, and sence of humor, and enjoyment of life has been infectious. I hope you keep making content, or another tv show, i know that is selfish, sorry. I just really appreciate you, thanks again for making to world and the car tv community a little more human and happy.
Thanks for following along! Not quitting my day job. And hopefully this UA-cam thing will hit pretty well
Good job Dave! Liked, subscribed, and commented
Thanks Tom
Oof she’s a beaut! I have an 01 quad cab 5.9 as well, pretty bitchin’ little truck. I must say you’ve inspired me to give it some much needed love. ✌️
I did some cool littler tricks to this one,
Getting some time to check out some videos, thanks for the content!
Thanks for watching.
Dave, you’re so cool! Great video! Can’t wait to see what you got in store next time.
Thanks
Great idea, going to do this on a transmission I'm about to swap into my truck. Thanks!
Sweet!
The amount of stuff weve all learned from Fred and Dave is amazing. Its sad DED is gone. But i think its for the best cuz now we can see more of the technical side of how Dave fabs. Which tbh i find more interesting than anything else
I appreciate that
I like these types short tips and tricks videos.
Keep up the good work.
P.S. The Cherokee in the background looks nice.
The Cherokee was pretty sweet, but I traded it off for the Nissan hardbody
Dave love the content thanks for the upload
Dave i have that same old craftsman tool in my garage. pretty good old box!
They do the job!
As daily driver of 03 Dakota quad, love to see yours is still around. Rust is catching up to mine, but with a v8 and manual it’s just too fun to give up.
Mine is around… but with a new owner. I sold it last spring
@@thedirtheadshed yeah, I wouldn’t want the auto either ;)
You do a great job. Smart guy!
Thank you
Love it we Need more Dakota content the 5.9 Dakota and Durango are criminally underrated and super Capable. I would love to see some slider or under body protection or maybe a Front bumper ? Thanks love your content!
I sold mine this spring.. need a new winter beater
Mate, very sad to see Dirt Every Day cancelled. You should make a Patreon, I'd happily pay to support your content - your fab work is top notch
I set up a Patreon account. I just don’t know what to do with it
@@thedirtheadshed add a link to your patreon to the description of your videos.
Different creators do different things with them. Some add extra content, some don't.
At the root level, it is just a way to directly support creators.
also a tip for the air hose... buy prevost hoses and euro high flow fittings so worth it!
Thank you
