  • I bought this car at an auction! It has been sitting in the same spot since at least 2008, but it will not sit any longer. Let's get this little Nugget started and then take a few videos to sort things out and make it a driver. Should I make it a Rat Rod? Should I keep the Patina? Stay tuned and make sure to follow along!

    It's great to be back! Many of you may know that I don't like European cars, but I have always loved the style of the 2002, so I had to get this. I have big plans, so I hope you follow along!

    I dont think much you creeping the car out on the starter. That stresses out a lot of the starting system. But its a wonderful car i learned driving standard on one of these

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  3 роки тому +1

      Well, in Tactical Ground Mobility training with the military, they taught us to use the starter to pull trucks uphill if we were to stall them mid-climb. The reason for that is to not burn out the clutch with an ascending re-start. In fact, '80's Toyotas had Clutch Bypass switches installed from the factory for the same use. So YOU don't have to think much of it, because I'm sure this is the first time you've seen such a maneuver, but the rest of us who are in-the-know will continue to do this safe procedure. It really is a neat car though. Thanks for swinging by.

  • @bridges5659

    Damn ! You really tried to burnout that starter🤣. Good video. 👍

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  2 роки тому +1

      Nah. That's why I went for a few seconds then stopped. Battery and ground cables were the reason it didn't crank worth a damn, so it never really got enough current to ever burn up. It's all good now, after the fact. Lol

    Lucky man! I would love to restore this sweet little carbureted 4 banger.

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  2 роки тому

      It will be a FULL restoration (a bit custom though) on my channel eventually. It will be tastefully updated to more modern tastes, but with a vintage feel. I hope you stick around for it.

    The one in the trailer has nothing to save. You have cleaned someone´s backyard. But is really nice to fire it up and it´s ideling as if it never been stopped for a long term! Greetings from Argentina! (sorry about my English!)

    About the tractor noise, just adjust the valves to 0.20mm or 0.008in and she'll purr like a kitten again. 🐈

    Hey good luck with your 2002 project
    I'm in the process of restoring a 1973 2002tii in Algave green So 2002 stands for 2002 places you'll find rust

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  2 роки тому

      You'd think I had a hatchback, because I got rust in 2003 places! Lol
      But thanks man, I already have some awesome upgrades for it. (EFI, LSD, 5-speed, seats, etc.) I can't wait to make some room between my other 12 project cars so that I can get started on it!

      Now that we're in the future, I can report that it was exactly what I thought it was: bad battery and ground cables. I've since replaced them and cleaned up their connection points, and it turns over much faster and easier.

    These have points, might have been an idea to check/clean them and put a bit of fuel in the carb. How you can NOT like european cars is astonishing to be frank.

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  2 роки тому

      I did put fuel in the carb...
      I've had a few VWs, and friends with BMW, Audi, etc. and they were ALL junk. The only reason I bought this is because it's too old to be in the era where the Germans realized that they could add some pomp and pretentiousness and make people think they are buying quality because: "European"

    Wow running a car on shellac gas ⛽

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  3 роки тому +3

      Technically running it on Mountain Dew gas from a fresh container, but perhaps some old gas (probably non-ethanol due to how old it is) got in. If you think I'll just "send it" without rebuilding the carb, changing fluids and ignition components, then you don't really know me. BTW, I missed your video on how to do everything "The right way."
