Yeah I do cubing and Mario kart so I would watch both channels on a regular and just recognized the voice then went to j perms channel to compare the voice and thats as much proff I needed
In one of jperms videos he said if he would rather 50 million subs or another option which i forget. In that video he mentioned that he wouldnt choose 50m subs because if lots of people who didn't cube watched him, his channel would decline. And i think (assuming he is shortcat) that's his main reason for being "anonymous". If his 1m cubers went to the shortcat channel and subbed, only a portion of those people would actually watch his vids bringing his videos down. Seeing a ton of people into mario kart not worrying about his identities is really helping his channel because people are actually there for the mario kart.
thats the most reasonable explanation i've been seeing as well. starting with a blank slate gives him the best opportunity to amass a following through his skills and engaging content, rather than seeing an initial spike through the popular support of his already-established community and possibly never seeing growth like that again
My UA-cam shorts algorithm was basically like "Hey I know you've never looked up anything related to Mario Kart this past few months but here's some shorts about this guy teaching you how to be better at a game you haven't played in a while, we think you'll like him" And they were fucking right
they clearly are. he just wants the channels to be seperate. if shortcat wasnt jperm then theres no reason for him to heart and reply most comments but flat out ignore any mentioning jperm
I love shortcat, it’s really fun to watch him play and he actually motivated me to pick up Mario Kart Online again and actually learn the shortcuts and different techniques on winning on all the different tracks. He deserves the blowup :) You’re voice is also very comfortable to listen to! Keep up your work
As a person who enjoys both cubing and Mario kart, I find it so cool how he has two channels for each topic. I just wish he posted more on JPerm channel. :(
I spent months trying to find Mario Kart 8 content made by a creator I really liked. It wasn't until Shortcat *finally* was recommended to me that I knew I'd found exactly what I had been looking for. I don't even care for MK8 as much as I used to, but I never miss a Shortcat upload. He's funny, engaging, and just enjoyable to listen to every time.
i remember when he had 12k subscribers and people were talking about how he was gonna become a big youtuber one day. i said something along the lines of "mario kart youtubers have rarely ever passed the 100k mark. i doubt he's gonna reach that." boy was i wrong.
Nice video! Really liked the way you explained everything. I am certain jperm and shortcat are the same person. I've been watching jperm for 5 years now and when I first saw one of shortcat's videos I instantly recognized his voice.
I think he blew up because he already has years of youtube experience. I have watched jperm for years and i have watched so many of his cubing tutorials, and when i started trying to get good at mariokart i also watched a lot of shortcat tutorials, and i just thought it was so weird that he was a big mariokart youtuber now.
shortcat/j perm also has a history of being good at nintendo games, hes mentioned multiple times on the j perm channel that he used to be a competitive smash bros player
shortcat is great, hes helped a lot with my strategy in mk8dx, i always remember his lessons in the middle of the race and adjust my strategy, if i get hit i start gathering coins and wait for the best time to catch up again and avoid the middle of the pack, ive easily gotten to 15k vr with no sign of slowing down now. ive also learned a fair bit of tech from his videos, like the shroomless shortcut in walugis stadium and squeaky clean sprint strats. Shortcat is definitely the youtuber to watch if you want to be good at mk8dx
Shortcat Got me back into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the first time in 2 years, and I have been loving it again, I'm not sure why I stopped playing it, prob because I was so focused on other things in my life, but Thanks to him I'm gonna be on the way to 10K VR for the first time in any mario Kart game, which is literally crazy for me!
Idk if I've seen it somewhere or heard, but I think he'd got burnt out of making cubing videos and maybe cubing too, he's been doing it for very long time so i guess it's viable. Good to see him back as a person who's been watching him for years and only recently did I see the shortcat channel
havent watched the vid yet but when you already have a channel with a million subscribers, you know how to grow a new one, even if its completely seperate
If Shortcat is jperm, then that's just proof that you can gain a lot of subscribers through skill (similar experiment done by Ludwig) It's not just luck xD (Or he is just super lucky)
Ludwig's experiment is terrible. He mentioned in his podcast that he made a secret channel which lead to people discovering the channel becuase of his podcast and not because of the reaction. Analysis of the video views also show that the only reason the channel gained so many views is because he literally gave a shout out to his secretly channel, completely invalidating the results of the experiment. While it is true that experience and skill does help, it's obviously much much easier to build a fanbase if you do a shoutout. In order to succeed you need both luck and skill. Luck not only for your video to be heavily pushed to the ideal demographic, but also luck to be in the circumstances that lead you to be able to do youtube as a full time job for 10 years, which allows you to build experience.
i actually been watching jperm for years since i was heavily into rubik cubing, now that i’ve made the connection it makes perfect sense especially considering for a youtube channel not even a year old he knows the platform well enough to run the channel im putting my stocks into this theory
One of the biggest hints that Shortcat might be another channel of someone with an already successful channel (e.g. Jperm) is how well he knows to run a channel. Obviously, his content is amazing and that's going to attract views, but he also knows tons of UA-cam tricks and his very first videos were well made and his voice is well practised. This is the sign of someone who has either put in a lot of time before starting the channel or already has the experience. Those who come out swinging in their first channel with such skill and practise are really rare, I'm only aware of Let's Game it Out when it was both Josh and Anthony who put in a huge amount of time. And even then they didn't have great success until Anthony left and Josh was grinding away at it for a while then the algorithm shifted and favoured him. Meanwhile I watched Shortcat's meteoric rise from less than 3k subs to 300k by playing the algorithm really effectively. Compare that to I think Gecko (?) another UA-camr that started around the same time doing MK8 videos and I think was a higher ranked player, but didn't have the same level of knowledge on the UA-cam game, and I haven't watched them in a while but Shortcat easily overtook them.
I remember watching him and most likely being the first one to make the connection. Around three videos when I first posted it and they all had low comments

I have met Jperm at a few rubik's cube competitions, some larger and some smaller ones. At all of the larger competitions he would always be swarmed by kids asking for autographs and and it didn't seem like he had time to really enjoy himself. The smaller competition that I met him at he seemed to enjoy from what I can tell. I showed him a magic trick but no one there really tried to take his attention for long. I would see why he would stop uploading as JPerm because being swarmed by kids anytime he went out to competition must get repetitive and boring after enough time. Eventually JPerm would sign up to for competitions but then he would not show up. It would only make sense for him to try something new.
