Hey Chuck.. I'm X.B. from 114. Helpful hint... Hook at least one safety chain when pulling dolly with truck around yard. Pindle hooks have been known to open and dolly goes running away. Not good if it hits another truck.
I drive for ups and there's been a ton of safety videos of guys bobtailing with a dolly and said dolly goes for a ride by itself because it didn't have a safety chain on. Do always put at least one on.
Good to hear from you again Chuck. I’m happy to share that after multiple attempts, I finally have found another opportunity in LTL with XPO Logistics. I hope all is well with you brother. Can’t wait for the next video. I just want to take the time to thank you. I was in a bad place in my management career and I needed a change. I was constantly working until 10-11pm and hardly ever saw my wife or two year old son. Your videos gave me the idea to pursue a new career, so I quit my job in retail after 14 years, went to trucking school, and yesterday I passed my CDL final exams. In a short time I start with my local Coca Cola distributor where I’ll be able to get some miles under my name and have a much better work/ life balance. Thank you for providing the content that helped me take the jump into something new. Much love brother! Stay safe!
Take it easy at Coca Cola, the job ain’t easy when your by your self and you got a 13 plus hour route, it’s gonna wear you down. Sumer time is the busiest time, I hope your terminals have AC in the trucks, because ours didn’t. Take it easy, and do what you can, best of luck
Good for you chuck!! I just left 7 yrs of P and D behind between OD and Saia. Now about to start my new journey as a UPS feeder driver. I hear good things about them.
I did linehaul for vitran. The only complaint I ever had was I never seemed to get any sleep whatsoever. Was always tired. Of course we also had to work the dock at every terminal we went to. Except the dark ones of course. My run was Joplin Missouri to Tulsa Oklahoma then turn and burn for St Louis Missouri. Sleep in a hotel then leave for Tulsa and then back track to Joplin. I was glad when the offered me a city job. I got burned out quick.
Yea, if your body fights you for sleep it can definitely burn you out. It normally takes me a week to get my sleep pattern changed over. We were definitely designed to work during the day. 😁
I actually find the pups easier to drive than 53’s. You don’t even feel them back there with 22 tires 🤣. You can turn like your driving a normal car almost.

Hey Chuck. Got a question for you regarding P&D side of the house... when a driver heads out for deliveries then pick ups, is there computer routing in the trucks that sends y’all on a most efficient route, or is routing up to the driver to figure out? I know UPS Freight & FedEx Freight use computer generated routes that’s programmed into the computers in the trucks. Is it the small with most LTL companies when it comes to P&D?
It’s up to the drivers. We are not doing 70-80 stops like those guys. We are doing 18-20 per day so we run the freight as it’s loaded and then pick-ups are at our discretion based on cut off times.
They don't have automatics for tractors? Also what the length of the doubles? I’m just gonna say it like it is: I believe I would do a really good job at this, meaning, pulling doubles, a.k.a. a wiggle wagon. The one issue I may have, to which I would invite your commentary/advice on is that I drink a lot of coffee, about one pot/day. I have given up all other vices in my life, I do not smoke, I do not drink, I do not corouse with women I am not married to. Coffee is the last vice I have left that I enjoy and dang it, I am not giving up my coffee! However, what this means is that when nature does call, I am absolutely required by the laws of nature to pull over someplace and answer that call. I suppose what I am asking is, if I come to work for these people, pull a wiggle wagon, one night while driving I absolutely have to relieve myself and have no other choice, but to pull along the side of the road, what will the good people at Estes say if they see me pull along side on the shoulder of the interstate for the purpose of doing my duty. Would that be a fireable offense?
It’s definitely a pretty smooth running yard. Still getting use to pups so use to 53’s. Will say they are much easier to turn unfortunately you just can’t back them sucker up very far 😂🤣😂. Call me Monday after you have made a turn.
Did you start out dock to driver with your CDL at Estes ? I know you went to prime inc when you first got into trucking. The reason I’m asking is I’ve heard they will hire you if you are a CDL graduate but you have to work the dock a few months. Then they put you through their school for a week or so.
Hey brother, about to start CDL school with hopes of LTL afterwards. But I have a random question. I see a lot of vids including yours where you all have a backpack with you in the truck. What all do most guys carry in there? Do you carry a first aid kit or anything like that?
Did you ever finish your 30,000 miles at Prime? I start Prime on the 5th I have my Permit so I’ll be going straight with a trainer to drive for two weeks then test for my CDL. I will have a 9 month contract with them, I was planning on doing this to get my experience but on your last video you said you can go some place else to get your experience, was prime any good for you?
Interesting. I just recently started with Fedex, driving team out 5 days homes a day or so. We make good money, never knew you can release all airlines and light cord and pull away. Learn something new daily

KCK! good job on the video, even the driving looked pretty good.
It’s definitely a pretty smooth running yard. Still getting use to pups so use to 53’s. Will say they are much easier to turn unfortunately you just can’t back them sucker up very far 😂🤣😂.
Call me Monday after you have made a turn.
@@TheTulsaTrucker I will
@@FreightHauler87 damn Chris you see the lighting in this yard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@HeyArnoldGotAFootballHead 🤣yes I have!😂 I know, I got some headlights on order. They’ll be here next week
Did you start out dock to driver with your CDL at Estes ? I know you went to prime inc when you first got into trucking. The reason I’m asking is I’ve heard they will hire you if you are a CDL graduate but you have to work the dock a few months. Then they put you through their school for a week or so.
No sir, I went to work for Pepsi got my 1 year experience and hired on with Estes. 3 days of training and hit the road running.
Thanks Chuck
Nice job ,,thanks for all the info
What GPS do you have bud? Keep up the great work
Garmin OTR 1000 as answered in another comment.
What GPS is that? I had a Rand Mcnally truck gps but I don't think it was any better than a regular gps!
Garmin OTR 1000
@@TheTulsaTrucker Thanks bud, I just got offered a line haul job myself. On the road again,I just can't wait to get back on the road again LOL
@@JoeSmith-nu8oo congratulations sir, much success to you!!
@@TheTulsaTrucker Thanks! Yeah I actually have to decide between two offers right now, I hate when that happens!
Good vid. How do like pulling doubles?
Much simpler than pulling a 53. You can make turns almost like you are in a car. Only downside is you can’t back them very far like a 53.
Do you have to drive nights doing lineal? No other options?
Some driving during the day. Depends on the terminal you work at. All the drivers from my terminal drive nights.
Do you use the back window when backing a dolly ? I find it much harder that way compared to using your mirror.
Not really but for the camera view, I do.
Hey brother, about to start CDL school with hopes of LTL afterwards. But I have a random question. I see a lot of vids including yours where you all have a backpack with you in the truck. What all do most guys carry in there? Do you carry a first aid kit or anything like that?
Yes, first aid kit, lunch, phone mount, flash light, tire pressure gage, Advil, phone charger, small trash bags
Yea you gotta carry everything you want or need LTL usually we get different trucks every day!!
Very nice cabin lighting... :-P
You doing very good as a rookie
Did you make more at prime or Estes?
Estes
Do linehaul drivers at estes work the dock as well? Thanks.
No sir
Thanks for the reply. I worked linehaul at xpo and loved pulling doubles but I also had to work the dock up to six hours per night. Not fun.
Sorry to keep bothering you but I have another question. Are you home after every shift? Thanks.
Seem kind of lonely out there doing the line haul stuff. Good luck with the new journey with the big E.
It has its plus and minuses but enjoying being left alone to do the work.
Interesting. I just recently started with Fedex, driving team out 5 days homes a day or so. We make good money, never knew you can release all airlines and light cord and pull away. Learn something new daily
Congratulations on the new gig, thanks for stopping by the channel. Much success to you with FedEx
would love to see a backing video with the doubles.
That’s going to be a short video
No point in doing that.
I thought you were supposed to inspect your equiptment before braking the trailers in case something needs service
How long did you have to do P&D before you went over to line haul? Love the videos Stay safe
6 months, I appreciate that sir!!
Will they hire without cdl and train
Some terminals will mainly your large ones. Just call your local terminal and speak to terminal manager and see if they do.
Come on rookie. Show us how to hook the dolly on the back of the front trailer then go find the rear and back under it. You will need this experience if you go to a terminal and just change out the rear trailer.
Scheduled line haul driver at 085 Been at Estes 15 years. Great job.
I hope you get out to Odessa!
I’m sure i will make it down there.
how heavy is your typical haul? individual TRLR lbs if possible?
I would say 12-15k
@@TheTulsaTrucker Ty be safe either way... union or no?
Any updates coming?
you quit? lol
Did you train with another driver for this or they just put you out there?
3 days training with 3 different drivers
Hey bro do you need doubles experience to get in linehaul? I’m currently doing foodservice and I’m thinking about going to LTL just need to get my doubles and triples Endorsement
Just need the doubles triples endorsement. In LTL you will.need hazmat as well as tanker. No experience needed they will train you.
Where is the orientation for Estes
At the terminal
Opinions of ABF?
Union LTL about All I know of them.
