I think part of the problem is we're often treated like kids but expected to act like adults. We instead want to be treated like adults but still get to act like kids. Neither way is fair or realistic, it just seems to work out that way.
I laughed out loud at the dog eating off the plate part. It's SO true! I have two teens. They plow through two weeks worth of groceries in about five days.
Oh, Kristina! I so desperately needed this tonight! This morning I took my eldest son to the pediatrician for his check up and found that, not only is he 4 1/2 inches taller than I am, he's 10 lbs. heavier than my GOAL WEIGHT! So, I saw this and I just teared up. Everything in this is him (and me in the mom role). Three weeks until he begins high school and he still gives me kisses and hugs -- except, of course, when he's in wall mode. Thanks for the smiles and the reminders. Solidarity.
So much truth!!! We have 6 kids ranging from 14 yrs - 25 yrs, 3 boy/3 girls (& 2 Grands). My "baby" begins high school tomorrow! 😢 Our (almost) 19 yr old daughter came home from college this past year and she was a totally different human being!! Her teen years nearly killed my husband and me!!! At Christmas she sat in the living room with the whole family and told me and dad that she was so sorry and that we had been right about EVERYTHING!!!! This almost killed us!! Apparently they do become pretty great ppl we don't mind hanging out with!!! Good luck and God bless!!
This is epic, I loved it!!!!!! So so true!!!! If only all parents could be so understanding. They need to remember that how they treat teenagers during those crazy awkward years will affect them for the rest of their lives
So very true. My teen ( and last baby in my house) is a walking plethora of moods. She can be selfish, self centered, arrogant, brash, argumentative, overly sensitive and many other bad things. Makes me want to pull my hair out. BUT at the same time she is supportive, funny, intelligent, witty, helpful, giving, caring, cuddly, silly and so many other glorious positive things. And so were her sisters so I know I'll get through these trying times. And I know I will have raised another wonderful addition to society. Plus even with all my daughters being out of control they still tell everyone I'm their best friend. So ...
Raising teenagers is not for the weak! My son will be 16 next month and I swear I can understand why some species eat their young. I love him, but he's killing me with not giving a single care about school or homework. I've tried grounding, I've tried bribes, I'm at a total loss. But, he's got a great heart and is a good kid other than that. I just don't want him living in my basement until he's 40.
Do you do stuff together with him? take a walk in the park/forest and have deep talks about life? or is he more close to his friends than parents. I have learned a lot from Gordon Neufeld. Don't take it the wrong way, I am sure you do the best you can.
OMG seriously laughed so hard it’s exactly what I’m going through! You forgot the hulk stage when they lose something and they blame everyone else for getting it or taking it .. maybe it’s just my son
Definitely not just your son. Or mum you've broke my Ps4 you always break or lose my stuff .... Ps4 works fine and switches on. Mum wheres my charger.... Every night I confiscate it and his phone... Its in the same place I tell him. He looks everywhere then asks again... Then he apologises.
So it's been more than a year since this upload but I needed to be reminded that teenagers need so much more patience, consistency, and compassion than their 40 something year old parents. But, maaaaan it's hard! Thank you for posting!
remember my nephew avoiding my hug one day and I was like "omg you're grown up already?!" he's in 4th grade and I'm sad cause he started to avoid hugs and kisses he used to love
One thing here greatly overlooked: in my family we had a very strong father figure. Things went smoothly (6 kids) until he made the mistake of leaving us for a year because of work transferring him to Atlanta and he wanted us to stay in Texas and mom not to sell the house there. Wrong! Dont expect a single mother left alone with 6 kids to do well. The whole family fell apart. One sister got an illegal back-alley abortion...while another sister ran off with a rock and roll band. And I myself,as a 12 year old boy, was molested by my mother. Moral of the story: never underestimate the huge value of a strong authoritarian father figure! (he came back in 6 months to mend things but the damage had been done)
I totally relate! I have 2 teenage boys and this was so funny and true! Something I learned from my own mom is I turn the tables on them and act like they are the parent and I'm the kid for a while especially when they think they know it all. It's pretty funny and they get tired of it quickly. :)
When a child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes a teenager, when he forgives them he becomes an adult, when he forgive himself he becomes wise
Thank you for this video. I needed it. My boys got 62 days till 18 n man it's been ruff..boys are mean and exactly what you said you never know what mood theyll come home with if they even come home n I thank you for this video..I hope I can find more..these videos give me hope
You're a piece of work Kris💜 That's exactly the hell that I'm living in And that's truly the decision that I've come to Thinking of 'em not mememe Perfect video for anyone who lives with a teenager 👌🏻
Ha! :-) So funny and soooo true! Right in this moment I have a wall. He is watching television instead of cleaning his room (Walls do not clean! They just ... exist) as I told him. I think I´ll wait five minutes before trying again - or show him this video :-) Ps. I like the dog-part ... even the little kids in our family can eat more properly. But the dringing-stil is the worst ... ever! Even after two days in the sahara I would not drink like this. Never, ever ... gulp, gulp ... And I have three more kids coming... maybe I should go and buy some ... lets say "soundproof basement shelters"?
I have no kids but I used to be one (so they tell me) and my mom said this about me all the time lol. Your videos terrify me...but I love them! So funny! Keep being such a great mom! Subscription complete 😉
My so is 13 and boy oh boy. He's so lazy and don't want to go outside if he didn't have to go to school or summer camp he would be in the house all day on his phone game and computer. I can't take it sometimes and my mother is now seeing what I'm talking about because he's around her more now. So all the complaining I do she's now doing. It's funny but I need help
Skyla Talks My son was like that his now 18 and in a completely different place both mentally and physically. I'm not telling you this will 100% work for you as every child is different but I myself took my sons phone and computer away and told him he would have to live without it for a week and see what it's like. If he wanted it back he could earn it by doing things. So he started volunteering. Taking kids to volunteer at hospitals and homeless shelters. Really helps them appreciate everything in their lives and stop taking things and people for granted. This worked so well for my son who now wants to train to be a firefighter. ☺️
Well my apologies if I'm not at your beck and call, m'lady. You see, I have things I like to do and don't always have time to do things RIGHT when you want
I so relate. Just had a conversation with my son where we argued about his attitude and tone because I told him he needs to do something and he immediately went on the defensive "I didn't know I had to do that." Well no, because I just told you! The other day I was trying to talk to my son as he had his attention on his phone and I felt like I was talking to a wall. Then when you yell to get their attention, "I heard you, you don't have to yell!" Well then answer me when I ask you something or tell you something and I won't be yelling! "I thought it was a rhetorical question." Me-Since when is "Did you do your homework" rhetorical?
Research has indicated during those years people are natural more ' defensive' as distinguishing between moods (of the speaker) is not so clear. Rather than command, it is better to explain or state the benefits of completing a task, such as you say doing your homework.
Saw this again - my son is 12 1/2 right now. Ohhhhyes! Everything is right. Especially the way of eating 😂 Last night he went of his daddy (we are divorced). Everything okay. He told about the last days. Everything okay. Wanted to know what's happening to me... only 5 min okay and the mix of granny and dinosaur woke up. Hello... what's happen while this minutes??? 🤔💭💭💭
I think part of the problem is we're often treated like kids but expected to act like adults. We instead want to be treated like adults but still get to act like kids. Neither way is fair or realistic, it just seems to work out that way.
EXACTLY
Yesss!

Great video, Kristina! My son is 12 and will be entering the world of being a teenager next year. Oh, what an adventure that will be!

My daughter is almost 12, not even considered a teen, but that is her all the way.
Yes and Amen! Hi 5 on the last point. Brilliant.

Toddlers and Teens are very similar lol :D Teens just have more hormones
The food part killed me im 14 and I can 100 percent relate to that

Sounds exactly like my son lol. He says he's not lazy though he just enjoys doing absolutely nothing 🤦🏾♀️😩😂.
