Our third installment of Bloody Beginner guides is here, and today we're covering Undead! Take control of the Scourge, their mighty Death Knights and scary fiends, and destroy your opponent on the battlefield! Make sure to check out our other guides by playing the "Bloody Beginner Guides" playlist!
Thank you so much for this videos Grubby, as a long time starcraft player ( high master in sc2, even played you once on ladder ) but a total noob in wc3 ( doing my 16 years old self made build orders ) I feel like this videos are perfect for me. I really like the orc build from the last video, went 8-0 with it in the beta ! Will you consider covering more builds for each race once you're done with the human video ? and also maybe key moments of the game like when to take a 3rd base or when should you switch to air etc... Hoping to get rekt by you one day !
Thank you Grubby, would be great if you can make a video about hotkeys (units, buildings, map position if any) and how to setup your hero abilities to custom keys
Please do more, having always loved the RTS genre but scared to death by the massive skill gap, easy to understand guides like this definitely makes it more approachable :)
Thank you Grubby. Even a year and many patches later. I learned so much. One of the things I notice with you is that you remain extremely calm under pressure.
Such a Kreygasm to see a well-spoken pro who usually plays a different race, to explain nuances of your main race with all the cool ideas and strategical reactions to the opponent's actions. Thank you, War chief!
I think it's a natural progression yeah, now that we started we are gonna be keeping it up I think! Slowly transitioning into Reforged-art guides (most likely)
@@FollowGrubby awesome. Feel free to make multiple versions for basic, intermediate and advanced if you want, since the game can develop in many different ways.
it's kinda weird how the undead, a race of walking corpses, barely uses said corpses and instead uses half human half spider hybrids as the most used unit in the game
Same as how DK used to be a human knight, a lot of the UD units are corrupted members of other races. They were allowed to keep their humanity in exchange for absolute loyalty

@@ardiessadida5146 I disagree, dreadlords weren’t really... with the burning legion, but they weren’t with the undead either, and same goes for Sylvanas, I think they should replace dreadlord with something else tho
when I play against a good undead. their unit just feels untouchable. but when I play UD.... everything felt like glasses. looking forward to a 2021 update. AOE4 just feels too starcraft to get into.
Hi Grubby, I think I can understand why there is no Destroyer in this Beginner build, I also think they're really hard to control. However, to my knowledge, they're the only dispell unit that UD has? Can you think of some situations where an UD player would really benefit from getting Destroyers?
Correct, only Destroyers have Devour Magic and the Dispell for Undead. Against Orc's Hex, Spiirit Link, Bloodlust; you should really like to have Destroyers. Also, against Night Elf Bear Rejuvenation and Roar. Against enemy Undead's Dark Ranger Silence; and against Human's Water Elementals, Slow and Inner Fire. They're meta at top level, but they require meticulous micro control, pull-back micro, focus-fire micro, repositioning and devour magic timings and know-how. For 5 food, 300 gold, and like 100 lumber. That's a really tough sell for a beginner.
@@FollowGrubby I see, that makes sense. I can really see myself wasting Devour Magic and not get enough value out of them. I think I'll try to learn how to use them after I'm past the beginner stage. Thanks a lot Grubby, really appreciate your help.
@@aidanscannell3932 You don't exactly waste Devour Magic, since after a few seconds it comes off cooldown and you can use it again. The main worry would be if you accidentally put the Destroyer in danger by using Devour Magic (if you are trying to Devour Magic against the enemy's back line or are up against Archers, which have longer range, or are up against aggressive anti-air), or if you really need to dispel a critical Entangle, Hex, Silence, or Soul Burn on a hero right after the cooldown starts.
@followgrubby few questions: What is the 3rd hero vs UD and which abilities to rank up on 1/2/3/4 lvl? Which abilities to rank up on 1/2/3/4 lvl on Tinker vs NE? Seeing Any race expand vs UD = we have to harras non stop (until my epx is about ready), not creeping or faster T3 to orb? At what limit should we make 3rd/4th Statue + upgrade for destro (which first upgr or units)? Bonus: Can we have a DL first ghouls + gargs follow up, please?
Hey, Grubby, can I still have a viable presence in the game with Dreadlord + DK heroes? I dont like other heroes, except maybe Lich. But DK's heal seems to be very important. I just really wanna play with DL.
DL means you have to commit to a ghoul+fast expo opener. It's not really beginner friendly as you will always have people attack you into it and new players aren't specifically good at multitasking. It's viable (in some maps mroe than others), but harder to be successful with than a regular dk-lich fiend-statue core.
@@WulfLOL1 why does it mean fast opener? I'm okay with losing until I get it. Took me a while in sc2 until I learnt to fight and create units in the same time as zerg
@@Ronin3run build Greyvyard a little bit later, start with hero, crypt zig, learn sleep first produce more then one ghoul at beginning and creep the expantion first, produce 5 acos while attacking the expo and set goldmine before teching to t2, you creep with many ghouls and skelletions and can easy surround enemy heros early with them + sleep. save the goldmine with aditional ziggs. greets :)
Amazing fight against orcs with undead. I generally get my ass kicked against orcs when I am undead or night elf cause I don't know how to move fast. Orcs are pretty much unstoppable once they got to you but first they have to get you.
Im not sure if banshees should be in the bloody beginner build tbh. They just arent as useful as destroyers and its not like destroyers are that hard to micro. I think banshees are more important at higher levels and really only for ams for human and mirror. Not that they still arent great for orc with curse but thats really a niche thing to deal with the blademaster and most low level blademasters arent scary enough and its probably better to just get more fiends and/or destroyers
Hey Grubby, any chance you have a link (sorry if this is already in this thread somewhere, had a browse and can't see it though), to the build order lists, have taken them as a screen snip but there are bits missing at the bottom on some and it's not the best re-sizing them for the type). Would like to have a play with these build orders in front of my so I can newbily get to grips with them! Cheers man. P.S love the videos.
SukMikeHok Set a micro with ctrl and a number on your deserved building. Double press the Number will get you to the building, one press will select the building so you could start creating units without going to the base at all
Could you also explain the whys of what you do. I didn't understand why the banshee, though I get that the fiends are heavy hitters and so pretty useful. Why not necromancer? Why aren't abomination useful? Why a tavern hero and not alter?
I watch a lot of pro WC3 but don’t have any actual in-game skill so take what I say with a grain of salt. For the banshees at least, Grubby explained that they reduce the damage output of the orc army with Curse (which gives enemy units to miss their attack entirely). I don’t think Necro’s give you the defensive spell options. As far as tavern heroes I know that Dark Ranger and Pitlord are able to be targeted and healed by death coil. Both heroes offer control options and probably have better right clicks in big fights as opposed to dreadlord. From I can tell too this game didn’t have him push 50+ food so it’s hard to fit the aboms in.
He advised if you have decent micro to turn auto cast off because if you get into any fight small , big, or creep they will cast it off cooldown until they have mana. So if you can control when they auto cast it by turning on for big fights in can help control the amount of damage you take. Going into a big fight with only one curse cast because the ai used their mana on murloc camps is not usually good.
So far the hardest of "Bloody Beginner" BOs for me. As a noob, I pretty much nailed the human build, orc was harder, but I've managed to win about 5 games. Undead is nightmare for me for some reason. I can barely beat easy AI (about 33% of the time). My units just get annihilated, banshee curses don't help. I can only win if I catch the poor bastard creeping, or pull 5 lvl creeps on him while running for my life. *Sigh*... Ok, back to practicing...

Undead is happy on one vs one base, but must act vs expansions! You're welcome
There are a number of options, this is a pretty comprehensive on the ones I know of - its a great place to start, super easy to set up and use (especially if you have played mobas and are comfortable with their keybinds). gaming-tools.com/warcraft-3/hotkeys/
ENABLING CUSTOMKEYS: find the "CustomKeysSample" file in your Warcraft III installation folder. Take it, and move it to the C:\Users\[yourname]\Documents\Warcraft III\CustomKeyBindings folder. Remove 'sample', and change the hotkeys of your choice.
I don't play well but an idea: It narrows the frontline into a choke point so you can focus fire safely while their mg/bears are crammed without being able to attack
Also, the WarCraft III supply difference vs StarCraft (both versions) is more than it seems, because Terran and Zerg have 1 Food and even 1/2 Food units, whereas the only 1 Food units in WarCraft III are workers (and a merc on some maps that are not currently in ladder), and some of the WarCraft III Tier 1 units even cost 3 Food. And then you have Upkeep if you get past half of the final Food cap (and especially past 4/5 of the way), making it a good idea to refrain from going all the way to max Food.
b r u h h h this was an amazing guide no lie but I think you may be a little bit out of touch with how much a beginner knows about RTS and what they can do 😅 build orders? control groups? a minute in and he's told you like a dozen things already only half of which a beginner would understand rip This is like an intermediate guide - an introduction to specific strategies assuming you already have a decent base understanding of the game and RTS in general...

b r u h h h this was an amazing guide no lie but I think you may be a little bit out of touch with how much a beginner knows about RTS and what they can do 😅
build orders? control groups? a minute in and he's told you like a dozen things already only half of which a beginner would understand rip
This is like an intermediate guide - an introduction to specific strategies assuming you already have a decent base understanding of the game and RTS in general...
This is really far from beginner level, sorry.
