As a child we were painfully poor but I did not know that then. We had so much fun making paper dolls from catalogs. We used flour and water for glue. In retrospect we were very easy on the planet. No houseful of cheap plastic toys.

How simple was that kind of life? Yes, it would have been hard but as you said, for children, this was cheap fun! For me, I grew up in a 3rd world country and didn’t have access to much. Magazines, comics, newspapers became my favorite way to play and make dolls. I think that’s my attraction to junk journals to this day! Cheap fun with paper and glue!
In other words, nothing has changed! 😂
Do you still play with paper???

I used to make paperdolls out of images in Sears, JC Penny and other catalogs. The would be glued to heavy cardboard for sturdiness. Then I would make some clothes out of scrap material. So my paperdolls had both paper and cloth clothes. Parts of the catalog made pieces for the home.

@@KitchenCounterCrafts Good to hear from you. I got used to being unusual long ago !. I love the victorian paper toys, cards etc. I had a few reproduction pop up books .THEY are alot of why I was intrigued. Have you ever seen masked calling cards ? One has a name on the front, but printed within the layers of paper bonded together is a cocealed message, or a heart, or a cartoon or message. In a shop, I found one by taking calling cards to a bright window. They watched me as I held them up... it was funny. One of the 3 clerks couldn't stand it. She asked me WHAT was I looking for ?!. Yep, I found one with a donkey within !. They stared !.lol !
IDK what the novelty is called . Kind of like a lithophane?. I took 2 white paper plates, moistened. Mounted a sherenschnitte floral in between the two with glue sponged on with cosmetic sponge. When dry, I cut it as a circle, punched a hole. Did a scroll border and written message on front and back. Sent it with a cord and note to hang it in a window. 🥰

I am not sure why this came up as a recommended video for me when it's a year old so you may not see this but I just wanted to say that what I was a child and I'm much older than you are we didn't even have magazines but we would twice a year get a Sears and catalog and I would tear out some pages to make my dogs I would often cut arms legs heads whatever I needed from other pictures to piece together it took a lot of time but I always had more time than I did pictures this was quite enjoyable thank you

Awwww... Barbara! Your comment touched my heart! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and to share how you used to do this. I grew up in Pakistan and we had limited things to play with - creativity is so much greater that way! I love the idea of making dogs - maybe that can be my next video? I made another one recently on paper dolls from stamps. I hope you will check that one out. Also, let me know if you have ideas for videos you'd like to see! 😍

I found your channel today. Your works looks so cute and just so kind I like. Im going to try these. My late dad used to bring me paperdolls when he came from travels or we go to buy them from book shops together. They were quite sheap 55 year ago.❤ I miss my dad

Oh, your message brought tears to my eyes 🥲 what a precious memory of your father’s love for you! I think we are caught up in the video games and iPhones for kids. Give me a magazine and a cup of tea and I’m happy all afternoon! My daughter and I work together at the kitchen table and draw, paint, color. She’s in high school! It’s lovely to slow down and play!
I hope I get to have granddaughter to do this with one day 😍
For now, I’m content to do research on paper dolls and cut up tattered books 📚

I found out that you can use stamps to make these (which I already have on another video) BUT... you can stamp on fabric and make a fabric mini doll!!!!
