Please note: Pre-orders of Viticulture World will come with a free pack to replace the culturally insensitive inclusion of historical figures who do not deserve amplification in a family friendly game of wine making. You can read more details about this here: stonemaiergames.com/south-america-cultural-consulting-and-fixing-a-big-mistake/. A note about this would have been included in the tutorial video itself, but this information was discovered after the video had been shot. Thankfully, in the long run, these errant cards will not be included in future printings.
My wallet says I need to stop watching WATCH IT PLAYED videos, because they are always so perfectly done, simple to understand, and compelling that I end up purchasing the games presented! :-) Seriously, though... thank you for making it easier to make purchase decisions with eyes wide open and for helping get purchased games to the table without a fuss because you make the setup and rules non-intimidating. Thank you again for your thoughtful scripting and narration and beautiful layouts and camera work to help games to game! (And bravo to Stonemaier games for what looks like another winning expansion/ game as well as lightning fast response and resolution to the concern about culturally insensitive historical figures. Its really honourable and rare to see that humility and investment to rectify the issue so fast.)
Rodney should do a thank you video one day on the Watch It Played channel to celebrate it's anniversary and show off the best comments over the years. I think your would be one of them showed off.
@@danielschaublin the very best compliment I can give WATCH IT PLAYED is that I used to have a problem with buying games that ended up unplayed on the ”shelf of shame” because of lack of motivation/ time to learn setup and rules. I can honestly say that EVERY GAME that has either Rodney (or Monique/Naveen) playthough video has now been played!!! This channel has added value by allowing me to both make purchase decisions as well as a resource to send to friends/ show to family before gamenight to make learning and playing new games easy and chaos free. So grateful for the work put into these to help the gaming community!
I always search for your how to play whenever I am learning/teaching a new board game. Simply the best. Great video as always. Keep it up, only three million more board games to go.
Excellent stuff Rodney, remember us folks that like 'the climbers' have to stick together 🙂. "This game has solo rules which I'll leave you to discover on your own......or when Paula does a video on them" 😉
Thanks as always for this wonderfully clear explanation! As someone who is often responsible for "the teach," I've long been an admirer of your work. Also happened to listen today to the "10 years in board games" conversation you had with Quinns, so I feel like I've spent the day with you and am very grateful for it. :-)
I saw this video on my homepage earlier this morning and told myself I’d return to it later… Later came and this video was nowhere to be found and I started tripping, questioning my reality and existence. Thankfully here it is (re-uploaded) and now I’m back in the Matrix.
Future Rodney giving his toast at Andrea or Luke's wedding: "If I can offer any advice, it's that you shouldn't stop dating your partner now that you're married. Take them out to dinner and a movie; don't wait for holidays to surprise them with gifts; don't be afraid of being silly if it means making them smile. You're still young and there are still many amazing memories for you both to make going forward...but I'll leave those for you to discover on your own."
Viticulture is one of our favorite games. We have the Essential version, so we have the expansions. I love the mechanics of this game. Lots of innovations!! I may wait for Christmas, tut this looks like a winner.
Quick question, at 7:14 you mention to ignore the part of the Mama or Papa card with the meeples.. do you still collect the Lira of the top row? Like to he 5 Lira Papa Jay has?
I'm confused by one thing. The rules say, for buying a grape, "To buy a grape token, pay the cost as shown on the corresponding row of your crush pad and place a grape token on the leftmost available position in that row (or in a previous row)" Isn't the leftmost available position in the row in the example at 14:28 the red 5?
Hey Jeff, I had a similar question, which prompted me to show this example. Basically, you HAVE to put it on the leftmost space (not the left most "available" space). Since the leftmost space of that row is full (the 4 space), you have to bunce down to the next row.
I have black bordered cards that are not in my decks for my base game. I imagine that's because they're from expansions that I don't have? The Tuscany ones are obvious because they say Tuscany on them. The others do not say anything. Go ahead and add them in or wait until I have those expansions and then replace?
I don't have the game in front of me right now, but I'd say that if the effects on the replacement cards are compatible with the components you do have, then they should be fine to add in.
I can’t seem to find the link to the printout promo pack for this game. Can anyone direct me to it? On the video, it said it would be linked in the description. Thank you!
@@mrglwatson There's also the space in the bottom right hand corner where you can always go to gain money or a yellow card. Also keep in mind, since the game is co-operative, players will want to co-ordinate their moves together to ensure that they aren't getting in each other's way and blocking them when it's possible to avoid. It's hard to speak to your specific situation, since I wasn't at the table, but assuming you're following the rules presented in this video correctly, then after that it comes down to strategizing. Not sure if that helps, but all the best!
When you pass into the next year, can that be done immediately after you place your last worker? Or does it have to be done once the turn loops back to you?
Technically, you pass when it comes back around to you, but I can't say whether or not it would impact game play in a meaningful way, if you started your end of Summer steps immediately.
Hi Peter, I don't do reviews on the channel - what I like, someone else might not, so I prefer to just show exactly how the game works. There are several great reviewers in the space who can help with more of the opinion based content though.
How long does it play? The base of getting everyone to 25 in 6 years seems really daunting. Do all the upgrades and trading opportunities make this that much easier?
I actually don't remember how long our plays took. It was about the same length as a regular game of Viticulture I'd say (in other words, it didn't "feel" longer than normal).
Great video! Love viticulture and this looks great. I love that they adjusted the Momma and Papa cards. I’m also glad they are removing the culturally insensitive cards. Super excited for this one.
I must say I'm really surprised to see the illustrations on the innovations card that's completely change the style or illustration theme of the game? I can not understand that move and I don't like it at all. A big portion of the joy of this game is visual theme and it's weird they are moving away from that.

Resolving the end steps when you pass after Winter instead of waiting until all players are done is also how you play on the Tuscany expansion's board
How do you spin those boxes at the beginning of the show so perfectly. You are more than amazing.

It was very good! I don't remember having too many questions.

Someone should really make a solo rules explanation channel and call it "On Your Own"...

How many times on average does it take you to flip spin the game board box perfectly????????
Are you suggesting it isn't on the first time Dale? *gasp*

When you play with the Asia continent, are there 8 years of gameplay (vs the usual 6)?
I'm not sure - I haven't gone through all the scenarios myself.
On the first year , during fall, I had no money and no grapes to age, so there seemed I could do nothing? Does that sound right?
During Fall, or do you mean During Winter? Because there are actions like Drawing a Purple card, playing Blue card, etc, have require no costs.
@@WatchItPlayed sorry I meant during Winter, another player had already taken a card, and I only had yellow and green cards.

the "promo pack" is confusing. What does it do exactly? Will we need them for other continents?
No its just another "continent", a deck of events cards, giving you an easy start game.
Rik has it correct below. It's just an additional introductory scenario deck that's even easier than the intro deck that was included in the game.

Hi Martin, are you referring to the art on the event cards? For example, the greengully art specifically? Or something else?
I reckon it is just because Greengully is the charterstone town so they have gone with Charterstone art on them.
