Agree on the scary nature of the book. I also found a great many of the subjects discussed interesting but some were so far out of my comfort zone and not what I had imagined the book to be about. Off topic, your shelves are looking so good today! I have a similar sign to your cat one with the books and wine. Mine is books and tea. Mini Pedro looks like he belongs with Coraline so well. ❤
Thanks Charlie! If I’d known more going in, it’s possible I wouldn’t have picked it up either but I’m glad I did as I did learn quite a bit and it was definitely interesting!
That's a difficult book to review because indeed the book is so much at the same time. I think the book provides some good analysis which is necessary to find solutions, especially for the left. Loved the humor in it. The Shock doctrine, that's a really depressing book by her.
I don’t think I could face The Shock Doctrine! I found her discussion of the way that political discourse has essentially been shut down in recent years was really thought provoking and she provided sound reasoning on the need for both sides to recognise the common issues, rather than just shouting each other down all the time.
I didn't know about the idea that doppelgangers are meant to take over your life?! But yeah, it's a shame that she's been hassled like this when it's no fault of her :/
Yeah it’s a common theme she found in stories about doppelgängers in literature. That part was really interesting and I kind of thought that the book would be more of an exploration of the phenomenon of doppelgängers but it was not that at all!
I just started it and agree it's different from what I assumed it would be like, enjoying it so far, really makes sense - hopefully I won't feel too depressed and scared about it all in the end though! 👯
It gave me so much food for thought - really well researched and written. I think when I finished reading it, I just felt overloaded with the amount of topics she covered but I’m glad I read it. Look forward to your thoughts!
My first foray into the web was aol chat rooms after the long wait for the dial up 😂😂 The problem is that those of us caught in the middle between the two political extremes need to stand up and start talking to one another again where we can agree to disagree and still be friends. And maybe even work for a better solution than it’s this or that or no way. It’s quite disheartening honestly.
The title of your video. 😂 I’ve also been interested in this book for a while so this is great!! Excellent review, Jack!
😂 Thanks Shelly. It’s a very interesting book!

It was a very difficult read at times! And thanks! Pedro and Coraline are perfect together - they really match in size! ❤
Das ist ein wunderbares fesselndes, spannendes Buch.
@@PetraKohler-gu7tb In der tat! 😁
An hour ago I bought it on Audible and now after I've watched your review I'm regretting it. 😅
Oh dear! 🫣😅 It is very interesting and compelling, just not what I thought at all!
A very useful review. Thanks.
I hope so - it was a tricky book to talk about! Definitely interesting and compelling, but some far ranging topics!
Great review Jack. Not sure it’s one I am in a rush to get to but never say never 👯

Thanks for saving me the trouble of reading it. Sounds mildly interesting but not putting it on my TBR.
It’s definitely interesting but about too many different and depressing things!

@@spreadbookjoy the only one I can think of is Dorian Gray, if that counts 🧐
Thanks for this! I'm interested but I'm not in the right headspace for it now. Good to know.
Definitely need to be in the right headspace for this one!
I actually think your description of this one makes me more interested to get to it than the blurb! 👯
It was a really fascinating book! Not what I expected at all but I am definitely glad I read it!

I remember friends reunited. I think I will stick with Jon Ronsen for now. I don't think Naomi Klien would quite have his style of delivery.
He is one of my favourite writers and auto-buy author for me! Have you listened to his podcast Things Fell Apart?

I remember those too! Our first internet experience was AOL on dial up but was never brave enough for a chat room! 😂
Politics and fun don’t mix. I think I’ll skip this one.
This definitely was not fun!
