🐛It's so touching how you speak of Alice in this video. I have a copy of Cloud Cuckoo Land that remains unread. You've encouraged me to bump it up the list this year. I love how eclectic your list of favorites is. I've had The Whisperwicks on my wish list for a while; very glad to see it get a rave review. And I'm not at all surprised to see How to Say Babylon on your list of favorites. That was such a powerful, moving read. Wishing you a joy-filled reading year in 2025!

Hello dear Jack, I so enjoyed your 2024 best of video. You know I’m terrified of big books, but you have convinced me to finally read a suitable boy possibly an audio. I’m also interested, of course in your mystery book. I love detective dark mysteries. The sweet Dove died was also in my best of 2024 and I loved reading it with you. I’ve read all of her books and yes, I’m obsessed. I’m also interested in how to say Babylon, and a few others you mentioned. I’m making a great list of all of my favorite creators. Best of 2024. Yes, sorry, being on toast sounds on appealing but beans on rice if it’s made Puerto Rican style is one of my favorite comfort foods although I don’t eat it that much anymore. However, tea and toast with jam sounds fantastic. I’ll even try a scone. Happy new year, my dear friend. Aloha

I love the way you’ve structured this! All of the kids books I am adding to my TBR! Shogun was so close to my top spot, any other year and it would have been a winner. Yay for Saga 🎉 I can’t believe I still haven’t read Mrs M Hurst, I really need to remedy that!

Now I realise how good a choice I made when I picked Guards Guards as my answer for your prompt on my tag 😆The Fellowship of The Ring is my favourite too, and I'm also halfway through the Andy Serkis audiobook of Two Towers, which I haven't read for years and am loving his narration. I'm making my way through Barbara Pym's books but i don't have that one yet, so one to look forward to!

A great list, very much looking forward to getting to many if the ones I haven't read on your list. My.line manager has been raving about podkin the one earlier for years as his kids loved the series. I ended up getting it for at least one of my nieces and plan to get it for mine when he's a little older. I have just watched shogun and definitely want to get to it this year if I can. I'm also planning on listening to fellowship of the ring and getting to the two towers this year for my shame read on ben reads good as I lost the will to continue with the tom bombadil sections, I now feel prepared to it to be the same, so thanks for mentioning it. Strong female character is soon good, it was a favourite of last year for me and all of the things you said.

@@jillybeanh67 Podkin and the next two books in that series were such pleasurable reads for me. If I’d read them as a child, they would have been all time favourites. Can’t blame you on giving up on Tom Bombadil - it’s such a slog and never gets better for me. Even Andy Serkis couldn’t make it enjoyable! Get through that and the endless songs (I am not a fan of those either and they aren’t necessary for the plot so I just skip them) and the rest is a joy!

Shogun was my favourite book of 2023. And A Suitable Boy my one of my favourites of 2025. I also adored Cloud Cuckoo Land, it was the first book I finished this year, for FOMO bookclub. So if you like all those books, and I like al those books, then maybe I should give LOTR a go... Nice list. And I hope you will find many new favourites this year. :)

@@-ParisTexas- if you enjoy fantasy and adventure and if you liked the films, you should definitely give it a go. Some people find it a little slow and there are some sections that I’m not fond of (Tolkien loves to get his characters singing songs!) but it is a classic for a good reason. I find it gets better each time I read it!

You hit so many real points, grief does affect us in so many ways. As much as we love to read, it can be too much sometimes. Like everything else, for me, it needs to be balanced with everything else in my life. About 15 or so years ago I found that reading too much of the same thing caused me to become bored. And, as I've become older my ability to concentrate has decreased EVEN IF the book is a page turner. Sounds like you have a good plan, and I wish you success and happy reading!
