Hope you do series' 6 and 7. Many folks don't like the latter series' but there's some great storylines and better effects. Legion in s6 particular good, and Tikka to Ride in 7.
It plays like a final ever episode - ship blows up, crew wake up to find out that everything was a total immersion video - everything they had gone through was an illusion - but, to them, so real - they had no memory of their lives and identities before they entered the game - the game wiped their true identities and memories and had them believe that they were Lister, Rimmer, the Cat and Kryten and everything in the game was real to them - twist at the end was that the reverse was true! That’s my theory of life - we’re all playing a video game called (whatever your name is) - when you die here, you wake up to discover that you have been playing a game - the life of me probably went completely different to how it really did - the real me was a multi-millionaire from girt and I married a woman who was gorgeous, and not a gold digger, actually born about the same time and we lived happily ever after and had kids - for some reason, I am playing my character differently!
The audience at the time felt like this was going to be the last episode of the show, and if the American version took off it might have well been. Thankfully it didn't and we got more dwarf, and possibly the best series of the show.
This was on BBC 2 on Friday nights before Whose Line is It Anyway? on Channel 4. Some of the best memories of watching as a kid with friends and family and laughing.
This episode laid the foundation for the matrix movies. Not only does it have a blatant VR environment, Just listen to lister and krytens discussion at the end of the episode, and compare that to the monolog that agent smith gives to morpheous, You can't tell me the Wachowskis weren't red dwarf fans
One of my favourite episodes. Great guest appearance from Timothy Spall too reprising his Brummie accent he originally used when playing Barry in Auf Wiedersehen Pet (another excellent show)
The Stargate episode you're referring to is The Gamekeeper featuring Dwight Schultz (Barclay on Star Trek and The A-Team). They all get "plugged in" for their reactions as an entertainment for a planets inhabitants.
I remember watching this episode when it first aired, I was very young but I remember Dwayne Dibley had me in fits of giggles. What a trip down memory lane!
I think during the first broadcast of this episode, a lot of people fell for the "It was all a game" fakeout, as it was the final episode at the time. Now that there have been more several more series made that follow it, a first time viewer is less likely to be fooled.
@After Work Reactions Danny John-Jules (Cat) had the Duane Dibley teeth specially made by his own dentist, the bowl cut wig was found in a charity shop "right down at the bottom of the box" as DJ-J said
Loving your Red Dwarf videos, it's great getting a new appreciation watching someone discover them for the first time. Can't wait until you get onto series six!
There is an ep of SG1 where they get their memories wiped and reprogrammed to think they are workers underneath a domed city on an ice planet. There is also an ep where go to an uninhabitable planet where the survivors of that planets apocalypse live in a simulation. there is also an ep where they get trapped in a simulation/video game based on the same tech from the above ep.
I love throughout most of the episode there's that one girl with that infectious laugh 🤣🤣 I crack up at that laugh, especially when they emerge from the A.R. program 😂😂
Red Dwarf is one of the world's best shows. (Dwayne Dibbly reappears in the future, and it's great). I say there are 3 other series in the same great level. Doctor Who (the reboot) Absolutely Fabulous Married with Children
Been properly waiting for you to see this episode. Lol. Fun fact: They had to re-record the laughter track when Starbug exploded. The live audience was completely silent in shock/horror.
I think this was better on first broadcast as there was always speculation as to whether the BBC would bring it back - season six didn't start until about 18 months later, so when watching it on airing you really thought it COULD be true. Like you say, you enjoyed it, but you're "looking forward to season six". We didn't have that assurance when it first went out. This is also sadly (IMO, obviously) the last real peak of the show. S6 seems popular in the comments, but the wheels are beginning to fall off, and post-S6 is just one of the writers.
This was a great episode! It really makes you think about your own life and where you might be messing up. Was my life really supposed to be like this? Lol
Duane Dibley should have had a spin off show, switching between him and Cat to keep up the hilarity, Well as a one off at least, 🤣Sorry, there could have been so many spin offs from this whole series and probablly already are.
We need you Josh to get to parts 2 and 3 of only fools and horses,1st part watched, you've got "modern men" and "time on our hands" to go, anyway stay happy and healthy everyone ✌️
You'll be happy to know that's not the last you'll see of Dwayne Dibley. Also while they were onboard the Esperanto, something was happening to Red Dwarf in the background...
One of the greatest episodes, Duane Dibley really is a cult hero 🙌
Duane (as well as Ainsley Harriot) is hilarious in Can't Smeg, Won't Smeg 🤣
He is awesome =]
Hope you do series' 6 and 7. Many folks don't like the latter series' but there's some great storylines and better effects. Legion in s6 particular good, and Tikka to Ride in 7.
i love Dibley
Dibley will be back after another problem with something ells. You wont see it coming.
Fun fact: Steven Hawking actually praised this episode in particular, calling it his personal favorite
Very smart hint in this episode. Sebastian's car was parked in bay 47.
"Bay 47? That's Quarantine!"
I honestly thought this episode when it first aired on bbc 2 was going to be the very last episode of Red Dwarf. Such a great epidode
Me too !
I was 50/50. It could be all a dream. It's mad enough for Red Dwarf to have in the script.
Me, three!

Same here. This episode sempt huge back in the day...simpler times
The audience at the time felt like this was going to be the last episode of the show, and if the American version took off it might have well been. Thankfully it didn't and we got more dwarf, and possibly the best series of the show.
When they look at the new players, that’s a jab at the American version pilot.
This was on BBC 2 on Friday nights before Whose Line is It Anyway? on Channel 4. Some of the best memories of watching as a kid with friends and family and laughing.
One of the all time greatest episodes imo. "Duane Dibley!"
Gunmen of the Apocalypse is my all-time favourite episode - we all have our favourites, Back to Reality is up there 👍🏻
I really enjoyed this episode lol

Not only does it have a blatant VR environment, Just listen to lister and krytens discussion at the end of the episode, and compare that to the monolog that agent smith gives to morpheous, You can't tell me the Wachowskis weren't red dwarf fans
Honestly, when it comes to the crew of the Red Dwarf; What a bunch of Twonks!
One of my favourite episodes. Can’t go wrong with Duane Dibbley 😂
I loved this episode it was really good =]
Back to Reality was the very best Red Dwarf. Timothy Spall was superb.
The writing of Red Dwarf was so good. Still holds up today.
I salute you Josh for cheering people up in these sad times,so thank you.
My pleasure =]
One of my favourite episodes. Great guest appearance from Timothy Spall too reprising his Brummie accent he originally used when playing Barry in Auf Wiedersehen Pet (another excellent show)

Stargate SG-1 Episode 2, season 4 Titled The Gamekeeper.
I just checked.
Thanks bud I appreciate that.
I wish I could watch red dwarf for the first time. You lucky man.
I remember watching this episode when it first aired, I was very young but I remember Dwayne Dibley had me in fits of giggles. What a trip down memory lane!
This is absolutely one of the best episodes, one of the most high concept scenarios, perfect atmosphere and character development
IMHO this is the best episode of all Red Dwarf
This and Gunmen of the Apocalypse are the best episodes of Dwarf.
Loved the reaction asalways Josh!
Yup, Red Dwarf and 2000AD.
*Light years ahead..!!*
Seriously looking forward to DREDD 2 or MEGACITY ONE, now that the pandemic is over!
Duane Dibley brings back memories of school shouting Duanneee Dibley at random moments in class with my mates
Your laugh is amazing and contagious!
You're so lucky getting to watch this for the very first time.
The Duke of Dork! Classic episode. And a random Lenny Von Dohlen cameo (RIP).
I think during the first broadcast of this episode, a lot of people fell for the "It was all a game" fakeout, as it was the final episode at the time. Now that there have been more several more series made that follow it, a first time viewer is less likely to be fooled.

Season 5 and 6 are great, maybe the best.
I KNEW you'd like Dwayne Dibley, mate. 😁👍
You'll really enjoy Series 6 as well. All I'll say is four words.
Gunmen Of The Apocalypse.
That groinal attachment comes with a lifetime guarantee!
Gunmen of the Apocalypse is my all-time favourite series 6 episode!! 👍🏻
@@MD-1982 It’s my absolute favourite episode of Red Dwarf ever! 🙂👍🏻
Loving your Red Dwarf videos, it's great getting a new appreciation watching someone discover them for the first time. Can't wait until you get onto series six!
And onto series 6.....the best.
The “game in progress” is how I’d imagine american Red Dwarf to be (never got past the first few minutes when I tried to watch it, so bad)
Best. Dwarf. Episode. Period.
The Cat looks really funny with that bowl cut and those teeth! I love that you said he looked like Moe from The Three Stooges.
Fascist police agent was played by American actor Lenny Von Dohlen from ELECTRIC DREAMS film (1984)
He was great in this, but unfortunately passed away in July 2022. Great character actor.
By this time Grant and Naylor were so masterful it's like they were just playing.
this episode is really clever and fucking funny
That was brilliant! One of my favourite episodes.
Thank you. Just the tonic I needed after a sad 24 hours. xx
I understand that.
You're up for a treat in season 6. Psirens, Legion, Emohawk, and Rimmerworld are some of the best episodes of the entire show.
Awesome episode. This is a real fan favourite. Thanks for your reaction ☺️
I love throughout most of the episode there's that one girl with that infectious laugh 🤣🤣 I crack up at that laugh, especially when they emerge from the A.R. program 😂😂
Duane Dibley is the best character in the entire series
Keyboard teeth. Lol
One of the best characters ever!
Red Dwarf is one of the world's best shows.
(Dwayne Dibbly reappears in the future, and it's great).
I say there are 3 other series in the same great level.
Doctor Who (the reboot)
Absolutely Fabulous
Married with Children
Best English comedy out there apart from Blackadder, Fawlty Towers and The Office
One of my favourite episodes and maybe top 3 or 5 premises for an episode in all of red dwarf,
This is easily top 5 episodes
Been properly waiting for you to see this episode. Lol. Fun fact: They had to re-record the laughter track when Starbug exploded. The live audience was completely silent in shock/horror.
LOL DWAYNE DIBLEY 🤣😂

iconic episode with dwayne dibley. another episode i think you will enjoy is psirens
one of the best episodes
He'll always be Barry the brickie from Birmingham to me.
After changing Rimmer the most in the previous episode, it was the Cat's turn. :D
Haven’t seen the last of Dwayne 😊
You are in for a treat, best episode ever lol
Duane Dibbley just cracks me up! I can’t 🤣🤣🤣
Good Actors at play, with Great writers, make you use your mind & imagination!
I've watched this since I was about 8 or 9 and I just realized Lister and cat are black lol these days that would go a little different in marketing
Strap in for red dwarf 6.......arguably the best series of all.
Big fan favourite. 👌🏼
I can see why this episode is hilarious.
Great reaction!! Such a fun episode!
Duane Dibley, greatest Red Dwarf character.
Duane Dibley!?!
What a great episode this was!
Yep have to agree one of the best episodes from an epic show that doesn't really have a bad episode
Iconic episode, was waiting for you to get to it.
No doubt about it Timothy Spall is a brilliant actor
Oh man, this might be the best episode they ever did! And it was also a favourite of Professor Stephen Hawking
keep up the great reactions! love this episode. ; )
We have scientists that put suggestions on problems we don't understand. Guess we have to dream on solutions like scientists do.
Craig Charles is excellent on 6music
Guest appearance from Timothy Spall, fantastic actor.
His son's pretty good, too.
Apparently he really struggled performing in front of a live audience - interesting little tidbit in the series documentary!
@@ajivins1 His sons an actor?
@@Coxy-b34 Been in loads. Was one of 'The Andies' in Hot Fuzz.
@@ajivins1 Ah,i know the actor, never knew he was Timothy Spalls son.
Thanks!
Back in the 90's this one was voted the best ever episode!😃
That car chase scene, while low budget, was really well done :).
Keep watching! There's more Duane Dibley!
4:33 is one of Red Dwarf's funniest moments.
Bloody brilliant episode
Duane Dibley should have had a spin off show, switching between him and Cat to keep up the hilarity, Well as a one off at least, 🤣Sorry, there could have been so many spin offs from this whole series and probablly already are.
If you love british humour you should watch "Bottom" its class 😙👌🏼
I love Dwane Dibbly :)
This episode is the all time funniest of Red Dwarf. I nearly wet myself watching this for the first time. 🤣
This is the last appearance of the female version of holly, and it’s fitting that her last action in the show was being the hero
Yes! Duane Dibley
Love this! One of the best episodes of series 5!!
One of the best episodes :)
Love this episode
Thank you
This is Holly's final Appearance in the show for a while which is a shame. Because Hattie Hayridge deserves a bit more screentime in the role.
Red Dwarf is just tops I love it👍😂😂😂❤
You're gonna love series six.
We need you Josh to get to parts 2 and 3 of only fools and horses,1st part watched, you've got "modern men" and "time on our hands" to go, anyway stay happy and healthy everyone ✌️
