I used to get made fun of because people thought I was dancing when leaving highschool in my 91 740 gl......I was just opening the sunroof and happened to be into stereos at the time and had a decent one hahahahaha
Something that many don't know is that the leather that Volvo uses is sourced from the same supplier as Rolls-Royce and Bentley use. I buy a product called Hyde Food from a local Bentley dealer and not only does it keep the leather supple but it gives the interior some of the scent associated with an English car. It's not very expensive either. It costs about $20.00 per jar.
The supplier that all three utilize raise their cattle high on a mountain in Sweden where there are no mosquitoes and therefore the skins are some of the smoothest leather pelts in the world , freebof pock marks.
Bruce Solomon is that Hyde food made by leatherique? I used to use it on my 1985 BMW 745i. it was a grey market car never offered in the states and had water buffalo hide instead of cow hide leather.
I think it has to be said that, as someone who has watched this channel a long time, and am a huge fan, that Andre's English has greatly improved, and is very good on camera. #teamandre
Enjoy watching you pushing it to its limits, but I don't think 99% of Volvo wagon owners would do this off-roading. Volvo wagons are super comfortable for road trips to ski resorts and on any countryside badly-plowed backroads in the winter while make you look uniquely stylish and luxurious in downtown area.
Thank you! Finally someone shows that you can lay down in the back of one of these (same height as me too). That's my favorite part of my Subi Outback, that I can commute in the snow and go car-camping with ease when I want. Its the first thing I look for when shopping for a replacement.
Volvo owners hold their own safety in very high regard...everyone elses, not so much...ive never met a Volvo owner that didnt claim their car saved their lives and have some story of the car barrel rolling for some unknown reason...these cars should come with a twenty horsepower 1 cylinder motor to keep the rest of us safe
Yes, that's kind of strange. I've had something like 25 different Volvos and I have yet to use the safety features in them. For some reason they never go in a ditch and barrel roll down a hill, no matter how hard I try. None of them has hit another car, although my current one got a dent in a parking lot while stationary.
Hi guys! I used to work for a Subaru/Volvo dealership in Puerto Rico. And to tell you the truth, for off-road, I prefer the more capable and reliable all wheel drive system of the Subaru Outback 3.6R. I have taken Subarus to places I could not take a Volvos, even the XC90. Great show guys! Keep up the good job!
Mike Ferryall once they get done with the xc60 they are coming out with a V60 and the V60 cross country at some point. Hopefully end of year. A smaller and less expensive version of this. I'm sure it won't be in the 30k range but it won't be 60k
They already have a v60cc.... It's more like $50k. I actually cross-shopped most of these relatively low SUV/wagons as my old dog could no longer jump in the back seat of our SUV. Wound up with an XC70.
there are sets of snow tires on rims using Nokian tires that give you another inch of ground clearance and the rumor is there maybe a boost plus kit coming from Volvo as a a option from their parts department. This is much the same as what they sold for the 740,760,780,940,960 turbos from 85-93 giving the cars an extra 22/24 bhp when i worked for them at that time, It was so cool to be to drive a Volvo 740 turbo with the boost kit and step on it and watch the tires chirp at 40 mph as it shifted
I have a soft spot for Volvo as well. When I got my license I drove my dads 85 740 Turbo a lot. RWD like the GLE but a little lower roof line and a turbo charger. Turbo lag was pretty bad but it went pretty good once it spooled up. It was a ton of fun. Volvo actually advertised it as being faster than the BMW, Audi, Saab, and a few Porsche models of the 80s. Seeing a 740 Wagon parked next to a Ferrari in an Ad is pretty funny.
Volvo has nailed it with the design of their new vehicles. Very elegant and stand out against everyone else very well. They have this very sumptuousness about the exterior and interior. Wonder what long term reliability will be.
Beautiful cars indeed, my 240 wagon was a work horse also pulling my trailer. A Subaru Outback should make it up too but I guess TFL will never get that chance of trying it!
Bruce Solomon My Saab was an 80s 900 Turbo that did the same head on went off the road into a ditch around a blind corner in the middle of nowhere in CT to avoid 10 teenagers partying I the middle of the road before a blind off camber stop sign. I slammed on the breaks as I got hit from behind by my brother in his naturallyaspirated 318 as we were racing as usual but he hit me in the rear and I hit a tree at 70 and drove away! Sheet steel and huge bumpers thanks Saab!
I hate to think about modern day Volvo longer term engine reliability and repair costs, with it running a turbocharger and a supercharger and producing so much power from a small capacity engine.
I had a one previous owner 2000 XC70 all wheel drive that was really bad electronically. With 3 trips 3 dead before it got there. One trip from Maryland to CT it dies in the middle of Delaware turn 3 days waiting for the shops to open and to get it towed to a dealership. My family was pissed. Weak power but the seats were a 10 in comfort
All it needed was a little more ground clearance. Pretty sweet ride if you ask me! If you guys had a budget like Top Gear it would have gone through a lot more then that, with damage ofcoarse.
It is just too long car to be capable off roader -Haldex gen 5 is a very good system but the length and limited ground clearance (still very good for this class ) does not help! It is just a lux car with some moderate off road capabilities. Who would realistically take it and risk its damage in very demanding conditions?
I would like to see my car making up to the Gold Mine Hill :) I have a 2018 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross 1.4 140 PS. On the snow here in Switzerland it's perfect! I wander how it is on a good off-road track. Thanks for your videos! It's always very interesting to watch them!
Once my 2004 Jag X-Type wit 160k miles kicks the bucket, this is my car. I don't need anything close the the off road situation like this video showed...just need enough to survive the Chicago winters and be able to trailer my motorcycle if need be. I just wish they would ditch the touch screen shit. I like buttons and knobs...I don't like the tech as it just over complicates and causes issues down the road.
Actually, it is - there is one parked on my street - unfortunately the ground clearance is not much better than the stock wagon it's based on - basically mostly a cosmetic upgrade....
What do you mean smaller less expencive vehicle. A6 Allroad is more expensive than this one. There are: Subaru Outback A6 Allroad A4 Allroad Passat Alltrack ... and yap, that’s it from serious competitors.
Good job Guys. My wife has had Volvos in the past and it has been all I could do to not make buying a "V" wagon part of the terms of my marriage.. Now I have to hide this review from her to keep from having to start shopping Volvos for our next car.. 8-( Bob/Okc
sorry, very late response. volvo tends to underrate their engines by descent margins not sure the reasoning if its custom testing parameters or what it maybe. my 2011 XC70 T6 Premier is rated for 300 HP at crank and it was making 315HP at the wheels when tested on the dyno at my buddies shop and its an AWD system. if you do the math, 20% drivetrain loss for AWD (typical), that means my car was making about 378 HP at the crank to achieve 315 HP at the wheels.
The Offroad version of this car, and the Tires Sidewall Profile, is as narrow as that of a typical sports car from 10 yrs ago. Another inch or two would have given the car a lot better traction, as well as more ground clearance. Needless to say, I am not a fan of how ridiculously narrow the tires have gotten on modern cars and trucks.
no, the U.S. only gets the smaller A4 allroad, the A6 allroad and MB E all-terain are not sold in the U.S. However, both companies have suggested that they might sell them in the U.S. soon. The A6 allroad used to be sold in the U.S. before the A4 allroad existed.
V60 Cross Country most likely will replace the XC70, well, slotting right below and the V90 CC will slot above. There will be no direct XC70 replacement unfortunately.
That is one crazy beautiful car. Not a single unattractive line inside or out. Bravo, Volvo.
German designer going wild and crazy while in Scandinavia.
I always like what they put out as far as looks and man they own comfortable front seat categories. Also safety 1st.
Andre, I too had a 1987 Volvo 740 GLE wagon and loved it. Manual 4-speed with a push-button overdrive and a hand crank sunroof/moonroof... great car.
I used to get made fun of because people thought I was dancing when leaving highschool in my 91 740 gl......I was just opening the sunroof and happened to be into stereos at the time and had a decent one hahahahaha
I've never been so excited to watch a tfl video. I've wanted to see this car go up goldmine hill since it came out. THANKS TFL
+Jonathan Mead you bet
Volvo is on a role lately. All of their offerings look great and are fairly desirable. Good stuff.
Volvo hopes that within the next decade not a single person dies in a Volvo product.
Mad Pistol believe it or not it's because the Chinese bought them
That is the Chinese influence !!!!!!
Yeah, that's the chinese influence... and funding!
In this regard, China > US.
that is very impressive for basically a raised estate car, some of the SUVs should be ashamed, it needs a 6 cilinder though
300+ hp and 300 ft lb torque is probably the limit to keep the mpg numbers where they should be for all markets
Ondra Neuman iii
The whole point of a superturbo is not to have a 6.
Most suv's aren't even really made for off road
Ondra Neuman you mean a 5 cylinder. Because Volvo T5.

That explains why the Volvo leather is so amazing - I was wondering about that, it seems much higher quality that other cars.
Bruce Solomon Very cool info there! :) Check the 2017 GTI Clubsport mini review videos on my channel if you like! Greetings from Sweden! :)
Also Volvos current head interior designer is Bentleys former interior designer... So yeah :p
Volvo for the win. Very impressive. Let the swedes show the world how to design and build a proper cross-over. 👍
I think it has to be said that, as someone who has watched this channel a long time, and am a huge fan, that Andre's English has greatly improved, and is very good on camera. #teamandre
I love the look of the new Volvos
5:00 u should use Beast Mode.
1. Reverse 20 foot behind obstacle
2. Put it in Sport Mode
3. Floor it
It will pass the obstacle easily. Guranteed...
This Volvo is why Mazda should bring the Mazda6 Wagon to the States!
A Yates but most ‘Muricans will be like: nah, I am not drivin’ this wagon. I stick to my big ol’ truck.
Right esp with their engine upgrade
I had '89 740 gle wagon. So know that feeling Andre. Rear dana30 was sooo much fun :)
Thank you! Finally someone shows that you can lay down in the back of one of these (same height as me too). That's my favorite part of my Subi Outback, that I can commute in the snow and go car-camping with ease when I want. Its the first thing I look for when shopping for a replacement.

That would actually be a great idea for everyone out there, because there are a lot of bad drivers, not just volvo drivers :-P
Yes, that's kind of strange. I've had something like 25 different Volvos and I have yet to use the safety features in them. For some reason they never go in a ditch and barrel roll down a hill, no matter how hard I try. None of them has hit another car, although my current one got a dent in a parking lot while stationary.
A perfect car for going to the ski-slopes on slushy, icy and unplowed roads.
Driving up trails or through fields as well. That trail was just too difficult to be honest.
Thanks again guys for another great video! Please keep them coming.
try the Volvo XC90 next!
They have already done that.
Hi guys! I used to work for a Subaru/Volvo dealership in Puerto Rico. I have taken Subarus to places I could not take a Volvos, even the XC90. Great show guys! Keep up the good job!
Greetings from Russia and v90cc owner here
I wish Volvo had a trim level that was priced similar to a nicely equipped Outback in the mid 30's.
Mike Ferryall once they get done with the xc60 they are coming out with a V60 and the V60 cross country at some point. Hopefully end of year. A smaller and less expensive version of this. I'm sure it won't be in the 30k range but it won't be 60k
they likely will because I heard the 40 series will be coming back and coming stateside. which will gives us the S40, V40, and a XC40
They already have a v60cc.... It's more like $50k. I actually cross-shopped most of these relatively low SUV/wagons as my old dog could no longer jump in the back seat of our SUV. Wound up with an XC70.

High five Andre - my first car was a 1984 760 Turbo with a 4-speed stick. Man I loved driving that thing.
Stephen Bradley The should ask Andre to use his.
niuhuskieguy I don't think his wife would let him like #Subaru won't. Its a shame that Subaru has cut of TFL Car cause of a few dents etc.
How I remember they've tested an Outback
Too beautiful for Off-roading...
1990 volvo 940 GLE, perfect for going sideways in corners during the winter, even if you don't try
It will be interesting to see how the new Buick Wagon does!
I had a 1989 740GLE. My Volvo saved my life.
Bruce Solomon My Saab was an 80s 900 Turbo that did the same head on went off the road into a ditch around a blind corner in the middle of nowhere in CT to avoid 10 teenagers partying I the middle of the road before a blind off camber stop sign. Sheet steel and huge bumpers thanks Saab!
So my huge rear bumper saved my brother plus 10 kids and my front bumper saved me!
I've got an AWD S60. I'd like to see how it would do.
love Volvos
Impressive... now how about Initial Quality Awards ?
I hate to think about modern day Volvo longer term engine reliability and repair costs, with it running a turbocharger and a supercharger and producing so much power from a small capacity engine.
Nope it isn't. 4 cylinders engine are great.
Sounds really good
I had a one previous owner 2000 XC70 all wheel drive that was really bad electronically. With 3 trips 3 dead before it got there. One trip from Maryland to CT it dies in the middle of Delaware turn 3 days waiting for the shops to open and to get it towed to a dealership. My family was pissed. Did you select off-road or awd mode? Audi all road equipped to same or similar spec is typically more $
I own a 2014 Volvo XC70 D4 and Im think Im gonna buy this car in the summer with the D5 engine
Ayyy, Andre! I have an 89 and 92 Volvo 740 wagons!
How about the subi? Its roughly the same class and also very capable
Did you guys try the drive modes? Did it have the wheel spin in Off-road mode?
All it needed was a little more ground clearance. Pretty sweet ride if you ask me!
If you guys had a budget like Top Gear it would have gone through a lot more then that, with damage ofcoarse.
where is the location of this hill? anybody have some coordinates?
It is just too long car to be capable off roader -Haldex gen 5 is a very good system but the length and limited ground clearance (still very good for this class ) does not help! It is just a lux car with some moderate off road capabilities. Who would realistically take it and risk its damage in very demanding conditions?
I believe that’s the point
Everything except the music was good.
I just bought my first car, and it is a volvo 945 ftt (full pressure turbo with 155 hp)
A wonderfull car. I love these CUVs.
Hey, Andre I had a 1989 240 waggon with limited slip rear diff, a drift machine and very good on snow.
I love the V90 CC, but this felt like an advertisement on too many occasions
If you look where he finally stopped you can see that it was actually going to clear it once the nose dropped but they didn’t push it.
In Mother Russia 87 Volvo 740 Wagon was sign you were making it in the Kremlin.
+SoundgardenMan Yes, but Andre went to high school in Colorado.
Volvo are doing great stuff arm.
Where is the deep snow video?
my first was a 1980 Maroon 240DL 95km/hr top speed
what a HEROIC attempt
Are you shooting at 60fps? It makes the LED lights flicker...
In sweden is this the police car🇸🇪🇸🇪
Dream car
awesome because I will be buying my first Volvo. I'm getting a 2015 Volvo s60 in a few months 😀
You guys should see if a Buick Rendezvous would make it to the top of Gold Mine Hill
Will you test the XC60 on Gold Mine Hill, a bit shorter and should do better!!
Are you gonna take the XC40 on a re-try up the Gold Mine with no snow?
wuau I'm very impressed!
You should try again with the V60 XC, shorter and probably same off-road tech.
Andre is my favorite from this channel
Would love to see the compass trailhawk and regenade vs rav4 trd offroad against goldmine hill
Surprised the awd system was strong enough to put the tq where needed. Not many cars can do that.
I would like it better in diesel, I'm the owner of a Volvo V40 2013 model with Diesel engine, it's great ! By the way great video !
You guys should try the Passat Alltrack
Hoss Cartwright not sold in America
Actually, it is - there is one parked on my street - unfortunately the ground clearance is not much better than the stock wagon it's based on - basically mostly a cosmetic upgrade....
Passat Alltrack is not sold in the states. The Golf Alltrack is though.
Beautiful car
They need to bring back the 4.4 liter v8 and have it avalible on the xc90,v90,and s90
Where is this gold mine hill? I've had my 2015 ford f150 5.0 on gold hill road is that the same area
Did you try the Subaru Outback out there?
+stancedchannel No, we did not. Subaru would not give us a car for this test.
Every manufacturer uses a single architecture for many vehicles 🚗
The Pontiac Aztek you tested made it just as far on bad tires.
Who would take that fancy of a car off roading
What do you mean smaller less expencive vehicle.
A6 Allroad is more expensive than this one.
There are:
Subaru Outback
A6 Allroad
A4 Allroad
Passat Alltrack
... and yap, that’s it from serious competitors.
Good job Guys. My wife has had Volvos in the past and it has been all I could do to not make buying a "V" wagon part of the terms of my marriage.. Now I have to hide this review from her to keep from having to start shopping Volvos for our next car.. 8-(
Bob/Okc
that isnt "laying all the way down" btw
I think the 2017 s90 is the best looking car on the roads*
well comparing with the compiting brands and models. Mercedes, BMW, VW auidi,
Start reviewing some dual sport motorcycles on that trail
How much more ground clearance the XC90 has over this?
try an '08 Hyundai Tucson V6. It was SICK offroad.
In Canada, V90 is more expensive than a XC90. I thought it was usually the other way around.
I will keep the real T6 XC70!
There is always more to the story ,no shortage of bs.
Isn’t that the exact same engine power output of the 2017 Honda Civic Type R?
sorry, very late response. volvo tends to underrate their engines by descent margins not sure the reasoning if its custom testing parameters or what it maybe. my 2011 XC70 T6 Premier is rated for 300 HP at crank and it was making 315HP at the wheels when tested on the dyno at my buddies shop and its an AWD system. if you do the math, 20% drivetrain loss for AWD (typical), that means my car was making about 378 HP at the crank to achieve 315 HP at the wheels.
You are using the music from Global Conflict on UA-cam
The Offroad version of this car, and the Tires Sidewall Profile, is as narrow as that of a typical sports car from 10 yrs ago. Another inch or two would have given the car a lot better traction, as well as more ground clearance. Needless to say, I am not a fan of how ridiculously narrow the tires have gotten on modern cars and trucks.
Why does it have a T6 badge if its a 4 banger?
Why does Smirnoff sound like he escaped from the Simpsons?
What about the VW Sportwagen?
Can you buy the Audi a6 allroad and e-class all terrain i the USA?or is EU only?
You can get the all road here.
AwkwardHuman the a6? Or A4?
Its based on the A4
no, the U.S. only gets the smaller A4 allroad, the A6 allroad and MB E all-terain are not sold in the U.S. However, both companies have suggested that they might sell them in the U.S. soon. The A6 allroad used to be sold in the U.S. before the A4 allroad existed.
Dave Travels Thanks:) too bad you don't get them, Amazing cars;)
maybe the new V60CC will make it. It's shorter and more like the XC70 (Y)
So this replaces the XC70?
V60 Cross Country most likely will replace the XC70, well, slotting right below and the V90 CC will slot above. There will be no direct XC70 replacement unfortunately.
How? This has a ground clearance of 6 inches?
this with a audi 3 Litre engine .... it wold be one of few best
i don't know how it translates to video but that trail didn't look that bad, hardly off-road steep dirt road possibly.
Next want to see rav 4 or crv
The Ridgeline made it up, and that's a car right??? LOL
