    Every now and then i come back to this.Along with Plasa's cars this one concludes the great three BMW's of hillclimb racing.Along with Plasa's BMW 134 Judd,i also regret for never seeing this beast in action live.Gotta say i'm a bit jealous that you guys were lucky enough to record and experience this crazy monster in person.But at least there is a video footage to enjoy it although it doesn't do justice at all to real life experience.True legend of hillclimb racing,along with Plasa's BMW e36 and 134 Judd and Meisel's Mercedes 190 and SLK Judd.

    I think this car is likely a match for Georg Plaza's car. Both are incredible RACE cars. It's really a shame Georg isn't here to go head to head with Erich. I would think Edlinger would agree. What great race that would be.

    would anyone be able to tell me what the black parts sticking out of the car at the lower back area best seen at 0:10 are and what they do? thanks in advance

    • @jogrobler
      @jogrobler 8 років тому +1

      +Joel Gray Though they look to be separate pieces, they're all part of what's called a diffuser. It effectively serves the same purpose as the wing on top, but where a wing creates down force diffusers (which make up a part of a ground effect system) create negative air pressure under the car effectively sucking it to the ground.

    • @joelgray743
      @joelgray743 8 років тому

      Thanks JO Grobler i thought it might be something like that.

    • @molinobeer
      @molinobeer 8 років тому +2

      The diffuser does what it was said. The vertical planes are part of the diffuser, their objective is to maintain a laminar air flow.

    @2.33 is that some kind of traction or stability control....seems like the engine was cutting out as the car was sliding sideways..

      +HillClimbFans It might be, but these engines break up under low throttle conditions; it might just be him letting go of the throttle a bit and feathering it, as one would normally expect in a skid like that. ;-)

    If it's a "GM V8 Indy car engine" then it's likely a Chevy-badged Ilmor, which is equitable to a Judd. Is this guy heir to Georg Plaza (RIP)? Similar car and bloody fast and tidy like Georg was.

    sounds awsome! def not a regular gm v8

    • @thomasnixon7702
      @thomasnixon7702 8 років тому

      +TEEOFOUR GTR No, it is either an Oldsmobile-badged Indy Racing League race engine, or more likely a Chev-badged Ilmor race engine. Not much like the one in your Yank V8 sedan except for the number of cylinders.

    • @yurtttttt96
      @yurtttttt96 7 років тому +1

      Thomas Nixon it's a European built V8 for sure. Flat-plane crank & definitely not American.

      Walter Kropf This is mental!

    • @thomasnixon7702
      @thomasnixon7702 9 років тому +1

      Walter Kropf So it's really an Illmor- built and designed racing engine "badged" by Chevrolet. I doubt it came from the IRL series, either. More likely the vastly-superior Champcar series. The famous Ford F1 Cosworth engine was "badged" (paid for) by Ford back in the day. Ford (and Chev or GM) had nothing to do with the design or building. This engine and the Judd in Plaza's Bimmer would be similar. Would not be surprised if "Judd" started out working for Ilmor who in turn started out with Cosworth. Of course these BMWs are what in North America are called silhouette cars. Not much Bimmer left in this car or Plaza`s. Even the body panels are plastic and only resemble those of a street car. I doubt the folks at BMW like to have a street Bimmer parked too close. The difference would be very obvious.
