When running that low its always either a solid plate or rails that touch before anything important, that way they can keep it so close to the ground that basically no air is allowed underneath. That helps downforce A LOT (that's why they have a rule for how low an F1 car can be, they don't want people breaking their back on humps at 300kph, but in hillclimb they never achieve such speeds so they have different height rules).

Just pure absolute sound, LOVE it. That engine is music to my ears. I think it's safe to say that he's driven this course a good many times, the speed at which he pilots the corners is insanity hahaha!! (EDIT) with the exception of the mishap at 4:20 time
Hard as a rock. Notice the exhaust blowing the rear diffuser, he needs to map the engine accordingly to keep gases coming out under braking otherwise the downforce levels fluctuate causing pretty evident unbalance on corner entry. My two cents
You know us Aussie car guys think we're pretty cool in the car scene , and we are!!, but this takes the cake for all out unbelievable :-) . Wtf did I see at 4:20 he just kept going flat out still after that!!! :-) :-) Guys ,here's an awesome driver in some majorly awesome engineering , WOW
I'm glad the Mercedes won. Would of loved to been piloting that beast. Driver did well with just that little uh-oh which hey if your pushing that hard let's face it that's bound to happen at some point. My congrats to both car and driver. Made it look way easier and I'm sure way way less expensive then it actually is!!! Great video!!!
Its a good thing these roads are pretty smooth, I can feel every bump in my car with its stiff suspension, I can only imagine how a bump feels with how low and stiff this beauts ride is.
Rally car's drivers have an actual copilot to tell them where to turn and how's the turn. A single driver could not drive at night with nothing but his headlights, ESPECIALLY with monstrous aero and over 600hp.
I was going to post how this reminds me of Georg, and how it's thought his crash was due to bottoming out, and not allowing him to turn properly when he need to.
Thomas Kwon actually it is good to have a car this low with this kind of turns. Deep car maximum downforce -> faster turns. This is not a highspeed track. Look at f1 in Monaco the setup is similar.
This by all means it's not good, yes you need to maximize the amount of down force but this could actually get you disqualified in F1, that's why they have to race with a wood plank underneath that gets measured at the end of every race to see how much got "sanded" down
Alexis Maldonado Alexis Maldonado well good thing this isn’t F1. For the purposes of a hill climb the scraping is tradeoff you can live with because of the added downforce. You want to carry as much speed as possible into and out of the turns. I.e you want your car as low as possible. Clearly it works given how fast he went.
Mercedes could not built good engines… without Judd the car would be not successful. The best race cars and engines are all Made in England for many times.
@@simontemplar4093that’s not true at all. Mercedes can’t build a V6 or V12 to save their life, but their V8’s have ranged from pretty decent to downright reliability stalwarts.
Super Video!
I'm curious about rear diffuser of that car even works... If the car bottom keeps touching the ground, isn't that mean ground clearance is smaller than boundary layer?...
I'm curious if it ever ran there. It's the ultimate hillclimb, no rules beyond some safety basics and the largest altitude change of any hillclimb course in the world. Plenty of places where a missed turn means serious injury or death. It's a lot like the bikes at the Isle of Man races, simply nothing to compare anywhere.
That car shaved 10 kg after completing this course.
Weight minus 20KG Downforce -150 KG sounds like stats for an RPG..
The reason the car crash because its too low
😂😂😂
lol
Road split into two
Scraped the road clean!
hahaha ikr
It is literally scuffed
$1000000 scraper
probably 200k-300k
Ashish Mohan I hate breaking but this cars are so fast 1 mistake and you would probably destroy the cars aesthetics n aerodynamics
You know a car is going fast when it actually looks fast on a video from all angles!
I clicked on it because the thumbnail looked fast
so fast I thought it was sped up
“A car is only then fast enough when just the thought of unlocking it scares the shit out of you!” - Walther Röhrl
just the tittle is enough to know that the car is going fast
video is obviously speed up
Engineer: "Dont worry, the aerodynamics are self tuning."
Of course, and if something on the wings go wrong he will have the same fate as Georg Plasa :-(
I'm sure that somewhere Georg is smiling... Thank you MPZ.
Thank you!
Jang Suharna
Well Said Peter.
Aw :/ I still miss him to this day.
Ah damn it..rip Georg..
The Driver took "you need to feel the street" way too serious.
right? who needs an oil pan, we can just leave most of it on the pavement!
Dry sump. The advantage is a smaller oil pan.
Jona Muir That's how you achieve faster times brotha.

The down force pushes the suspension down
Awesome machine! Every time I see or hear a Judd V8, I can't help but remember the late, great, Georg Plasa. This guy looks to be in the same league.
I'm not going to even lie but this is the first time I ever see a Mercedes Benz Hill Climb car.

crazy sound , beautifull car , i lost my cake in my cofee 2 times when i watched this video
Thank you!
Jean-Jacques Herpes .
Jean-Jacques Herpes
That'd be the cold sores...
You're not alone. Grammar.
Why are you dipping cake in coffee?
Judd engines are some of the sweetest music in all of the automotive world.
that thing looks planted and so composed! Who would've thought SLK is a great hill climb racer, love the sound!
Just pure absolute sound, LOVE it. That engine is music to my ears.
I think it's safe to say that he's driven this course a good many times, the speed at which he pilots the corners is insanity hahaha!!
(EDIT) with the exception of the mishap at 4:20 time
controls and steering response around the corners seemed effortless. Incredible.
Hard as a rock.
Notice the exhaust blowing the rear diffuser, he needs to map the engine accordingly to keep gases coming out under braking otherwise the downforce levels fluctuate causing pretty evident unbalance on corner entry.
My two cents
Ein unglaublich spektakulärer Bolide, der von Reto Meisel sehr geschickt am Limit bewegt wird. Danke für die tollen Aufnahmen!
So he crashed, nothing broke because of the quality build and continued? insanely awesome. the speed is fkn crazy :D
Diedrik de Vries some carbon fiber broke off of the car, I think it was from the lip
From the setup to low
Diedrik de Vries bmw
Diedrik de Vries only left side of the front diffuser and the left wheel well that it
The car that crashed is number 570. The car they show after is 479.
Both driver and car are just epic fast!! :¬O
You should really look more into European hillclimbing.Plenty of crazy cars with great drivers.
*hits blunt*
Did you say 4:20, maaaaaan?
Wish we had hillclimb cars like this over here
Great footage. Thanks for the upload!..these sounds make my day
I'm glad the Mercedes won.
Reminds me so much of Plasa and his E36 M3 JUDD V8, still getting goosebumps...
judd v8 but not same music at all BMW from Plasa was something special.
What an incredible machine and driver. Bravo to the engineers and driver man, so badass
This is the sweetest thing i see on the rd in a longtime..very nice..BENZ"..EXCELLENT DRIVER
That defuser spoiler setup is wicked cool! 😮😮😮
Its a good thing these roads are pretty smooth, I can feel every bump in my car with its stiff suspension, I can only imagine how a bump feels with how low and stiff this beauts ride is.
Judd v8.Awesome sound.Plasa the King. The exhaust note very similar but restricted.
Absolutely Amazing. That car is glued to the road!
Awesome footage! Thanks for sharing.
I think his car is too high he should lower it
agree maybe an inch or 2 would do 🤔
Umm, guys we have a problem, the car has literally no traction or grip...
armando ramirez did you know hear or see it scraping
Downforce isn't enough lol
the diffuser is scraping the road already lmao
These events at night would be legendary!
With no street lights? Lmao RIP
Just like how there's plenty of rally circuits in the night with no street lights. You just need to equip great aux lighting.
TheGameDeity lol it not hard to do this at night with no street light. Try california canyon roads at night lol done it plenty of time
Rally car's drivers have an actual copilot to tell them where to turn and how's the turn. A single driver could not drive at night with nothing but his headlights, ESPECIALLY with monstrous aero and over 600hp.
Sense of momentum would be insanely hard to judge.
I've never heard a V8 sound quite like this beauty
love it, but still love Judd134 more, RIP Georg Plasa #neverforget
Seban420 it's so sad...
F.
I was going to post how this reminds me of Georg, and how it's thought his crash was due to bottoming out, and not allowing him to turn properly when he need to.
And that my friends is why cars have paddle-shifters. That is an amazing man and machine. in the rain?...insane!
What a machine! Fantastic footage!
Thanks!
I believe a electric car will be much faster.
I love this channel. I hope you guys can come to Colorado to film Pikes Peak Hillclimb :)
That’s mad skills!!… seriously watch that twice WHOA!
Reto is a great driver and a very nice guy :)
Hitting corners like a Boss...
The grip,, and the handling just soooooooooooooo amazing,,
Wow that handles so good. Completely dialed in!
Incredible Handling on that beast
nice looking car and also great performance!!
One of my favorite sounding vehicles now.
Saw this car in Osnabrück - the gearbox cracked right in front of me ;) BTW, the sound in reality is even mor awesome than in the video.
this is amazing . you can hear the driver gunning it round the bends through the gears and the car just doesnt brake traction!
epic
Seems slightly too low :D
lol sounds like it too
all in the name of aerodynamics :D
you just need to give it some gas to lift the front ;)
even f1 have tried to no suspension settings to make the downforce even bigger
It relays heavily on ground effect, is my guess. It doesn't work if the car is even a bit too high.
At the beginning, what is the long white stick with the block on the end used for? Something to do w/ the cars tires?
Awesome King of the mountain number 999 thumbs up 🏆
cool and great driving technique
the diffuser scraping the ground probably cost him some time lol
Thomas Kwon actually it is good to have a car this low with this kind of turns. Deep car maximum downforce -> faster turns. This is not a highspeed track. Look at f1 in Monaco the setup is similar.
Niklas Ostermann Yep you're right, it's all about downforce.
This by all means it's not good, yes you need to maximize the amount of down force but this could actually get you disqualified in F1, that's why they have to race with a wood plank underneath that gets measured at the end of every race to see how much got "sanded" down

You want to carry as much speed as possible into and out of the turns. I.e you want your car as low as possible. Clearly it works given how fast he went.
such scraping effects partly aids in serious late braking.
Some if the best reflexes needed in this sport and hand eye coordination like no other event
My god the grip and downforce is insane
that grip is impressive😍😍
Carro lindo... piloto guia muito ,foi no limite
I love a good Judd V8! All around great racing engine!
Thanks for that rad video
if they had crowd control like this in the 80s they never would have been my favorite group b cars.
that's what they call a glorious sound. that undertone. few engines have it
Bloody Hell.. handles superb, like a scalextric car.. loved it
Grande Reto !!¨come sempre la SVIZZERA da lezioni al mondo ciao..
Just perfect!
This was simply incredible. Loved the trick, how he shed unnecessary weight towards the end. Like to see who could beat this?
A Star made and born in old good germany. Highest performance and Settings all over!!
Bro his cornering is amazing. He is shaving those guard rails
nice video!! go reto go!! i hope listen the real sound whit the free exhaust!
Thank you, Yes, it sounds much more better with an open exhaust, but in Switzerland he was running in the E1 class with a sound limit... sniff
Mayo87ita は
man thats an awesome beast of a mercedez
Not much of an mercedes on this car anymore. xD Still a great car! ^^
awesome camera footage and framraight too, good quality camera
i like it, this merc stance is put in good use
Nice. A bucketload of downforce, heaps of power, and a guy that can steer a car (except for the off into the hill!).
the inexperienced driver sticker made the car look even better lmao
The panorama of swiss mountains.. so calm. Then comes the monster. I like that.
I have no idea what a diffuser is but it does a hell of a job along with the suspension
Damn nice SLK Racecar :) What a shame that it's not really used in much competitions, championships ...
Mercedes could not built good engines… without Judd the car would be not successful. The best race cars and engines are all Made in England for many times.

What a beast. Got the perfect nickname for it...Sparky
Rest In Peace Georg, you were the best
Super Video!
get get get get low
low
low
low
low
Teguh Cahyadi I'm high now
That V8 must be revving 10-12 Gs.
AWESOME sound.
It takes the corners so smoothly
Mechanic: So, how much downforce do you want in this car?
Reto meisel: YES.
Oh come on guys. No Hammond comments? Well here is one. :D
Is it supposed to hit the front splitter and rear diffuser like that🤔
i wonder if the friction of it scraping the ground slows it down or if its better that way to reduce the air under the car
Man, he just flicks that thing like he could whip a 180 on a dime and give you 9 cents change!! Sicknin.
"Why'd you lower it so much?"
...
"We just like sparks."
I'm curious about rear diffuser of that car even works...
If the car bottom keeps touching the ground, isn't that mean ground clearance is smaller than boundary layer?...
Magnifique magnifique bravo bravo
that scraping trough the whole track...
damn that car is on rails
The way it hugs the road makes it look like unreal
Love the Cattle soundtrack!
Wow, what a machine! All the downforce makes it look like a DTM machine combined with the GTA V Feltzer body kit.
gamers... *eyeroll*
Somehow i ended up on Youporn. Seems like it.
Mechanic: How low do you want your car to be?
Driver: Yes.
Whats that wooden stick in the start for?
Very impressive but we have nothing to compare it to.
Take it up Pikes Peak and see if it goes fast up there
I'm curious if it ever ran there. It's the ultimate hillclimb, no rules beyond some safety basics and the largest altitude change of any hillclimb course in the world. Plenty of places where a missed turn means serious injury or death. It's a lot like the bikes at the Isle of Man races, simply nothing to compare anywhere.
Is his 190 still around?
Which one you mean? ;-)
Yes the JUDD RM1 is still there.
Does this thing even have a handbrake or can you take every turn flatout with it?
One of the best!
